When I say honorable to rob banks I mean it in the sense of not robbing to buy a sports car and go on overseas holidays and other luxuries, but just to maintain his current lifestyle. Was he justified to rob banks? NO. But at least more "honorable" than robbing for unadulterated greed.

The fact that he didn't tell his wife about their money issues is a sign that something else is wrong here. If I had to guess I'd say she would have left him if she realised they were completely broke and he was just trying to keep his wife and kids happy. The guy lost his job , clearly then, it was sheer desperation drove him to rob banks. Hence his , extreme,change of character due to the amount of stress which he was,obviously, undergoing. A real criminal does not suffer anxiety. Only a man driven to do whatever it takes for the welfare of his wife and kids, whom he, quite evidently, loved, very much.

I'm amazed she divorced him not long after he went to jail. Maybe she should have had a longer think about it all and realised where she may have added to his pressures.
