Brilliant episode, light years ahead of The Overlap and all the others. No Huel adverts, no fairy cakes, no debating over fashion or music - this is proper fitba chat by two of the most genuine and gifted players we had at Man U. Naturally funny & and insightful whilst also paying huge respect to the clubs & players they came up against. This is football.

you're so right, shearer on the BBC is an actual gimp and so PC, on their podcast he's such a try hard with squeezing in swear words at every opportunity and lineker is so self-righteous is unbelievable. And I don't get why so many people like micah richards. Yes, he has a fresh approach to punditry but his actual analysis is dogshit and he basically relies on humor/laughing

@@footballsgreatestpod@Dan 100% agreed. Nicky, Scolesy any chance of having a chat about when players used to park across from OT and walk through the crowd to the tunnel entrance. Ive told stories to many of my friends about meeting both of you guys, keano, eric, gary and phil, andrei, neil webb, les sealy, sparky, choccy etc as a kid and in to my early teens and alot of my friends cant comprehend that fans could get so close to and interact with players, and they will never get that feeling of actually being the 12th man. when you talk to player and guarantee them your utmost support before a game and they guarantee to perform to the best of their abilities, it makes the noise from the stand so much more meaningful and makes the success taste so much better.

I'll tell you how good that 99 team were. I was living in Spain at the time. And the following year the final was between Real Madrid and Valencia. Just prior to that game Marca had a centre spread where they asked all La Liga's managers certain questions. One was 'Who is the best team in Europe'? There were in total 18 managers. 2 of them said that they did not have enough knowledge as to to who were the best. 2 others said 'Well, the team that wins the cup is the best'. That left 14 managers. Eight voted for Manchester United - far and away the biggest. Indeed one of the 4 who did not pick a team was Javier Irureta, manager of Deportivo la Coruna, and I know he was a big, big fan of that team.

I'm so glad they recognised the fact that in Nicky Butts words " It didn't matter who we played against, they were better than us technically". I was mocked for pointing this out as a kid, that technically it didn't matter whether they were Turkish, Bulgarian, Greek, you name it, they were always more comfortable on the ball. Whereas United were always physically Superior, way more organised defensively and of course, had that never say die attitude and Confidence that they were always superior to the opposition.

What Scholes said about Messi is so true. I saw him play for Barca at the Nou Camp in La Liga and he did nothing and just walked around for 89 minutes. He made one tackle that got a bigger cheer than the goals, and then he got the ball twice and scored two wonder goals. Unbelievable. Then I saw him at home against United, and surprisingly, the best player on the pitch was McSauce and Messi didn't do much really. But watching him warm up and practice free kicks and everyone went in within an inch of the last one. It was unreal watching him just warm up both times. He is another level. Him and CR7 are the predictably the two best players I have watched live, and luckily through United I have seen some real greats play. Even in the league since the Premier League started getting all the best players, I've been lucky to see the World's best. The two I never saw that I am gutted about are Ronaldinho and Zidane.

As a Liverpool fan I probably should hate Scholes just by virtue of the fact that he was so instrumental in Man U's success, but the truth is I never did. He was all about the footy, I respected the fact he didn't have an agent, and to me he just comes across as the most relatable footballer of his generation, even though he played for our arch rivals.
