For those who don't know the difference in brazing and soldering. Here's the quick and dirty. Solder uses a metal that has a lower melting point than the pipe material. Brazing is when you use an alloy with the same material. Basically Common Solder melts roughly 400-600 degrees. While Brazing rods melt at roughly a little under the pipe material. Copper would be 1400 degrees iirc.

What would be the benefit of brazing in 1/2"? residential copper line?

​@@sgtjonson There's no benefit if it's not under a concrete slab. That's the criteria for copper. Under slab shall be brazed copper. When you braze it it turns from hard run copper to soft copper. It can bend super easily afterwards. I run medical gas and people hit our strut trapeze racks and it bends the living fu©k out of the copper.

I started out doing shit like this and loved it. Only realized it now after doing mostly piping for an hvac company installing chillers/cooling towers and such. Not much copper play in those jobs. And a well done bathroom job with copper will make you look like an artist. Great work jabroni, I mean broski.

You don't need it on domestic lines but in the commercial building I work in, in midtown the building wants brazed lines because it's a stronger connection. All of the domestic lines in my building are threaded red brass, except for some stub outs

Bathtubs are nice for the kids but a walk-in low/curbless shower with a bench and massage spray system feels so much better. It's great for family with elderly with knee problems.

Where I live, I rarely have to solder or use cast iron. I don’t mind soldering, but when I am slinging around 4” cast iron 15 feet up on top of an air handler, that I mind. You work with all the cast like it’s nothing. And it looks good. Respect.

Here in California, particularly in Los Angeles area 90% of my projects / bathrooms remodels are to turn tubs into walk in showers .. and as far as shower systems , we have clients that’ spend thousands on these new body shower kits thats shower you from head to toe literally.
