I'm a DIY kind of person. I rate myself as a DIY 2nd Class. Whenever I do a project, I must donate blood to the DIY GOD. Your video gave me a great idea. I'll put red carpet on my garage floor. After watching many repair videos, I'm amazed at how often I see crescent and adjustable wrenches being used. I prefer to only use regular or flare wrenches.

Hey Steve! So, I was under the impression that you were going to have to do some soldering to attach a new fitting. But when you exclaimed, "it's a leaker," my heart skipped a beat, thinking that the main ball valve might be bad . Phew! Thankfully, the old fittings smoothly screwed into the new filter. I'm an apprentice plumber and like watching your videos. They're both educational and entertaining! Keep up the great work!

I like that the homeowner's filter body wasn't soldiered on each end like mine. Mine leaked, I replaced each end of the filter body with brass threaded fittings and braided stainless washer hoses connecting to my main water line on each side of the filter unit. I made (welded) a steel rack to hold/support the filter unit up. The hoses let me take the filter unit down to floor level to replace the inside filter when needed. I set it up 10 years ago and it is working well.

You have to be careful about what type of grease you put on o-rings (100% silicone grease with no other additives is a safe bet) if you use an incompatible grease the o-ring will swell and you won't be able to remove the filter housing. Ask me how I know.

@philipread7741 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, you had the same thoughts, also a drain down to de-pressurize the housing to allow it to be easily dismantled for a filter change. I would have told the customer that I was not going up a ladder in the basement to do the job. What pillock fitted the filter up there in the first place. The pipework needs modifying to bring the filter housing nearer to ground level so it can be worked on comfortably (safely) whilst standing up. Customer will not be happy when you fall off your ladder and hurt yourself!!
