Why a Mini Cargo Trailer?

Ever wonder why trailer manufacturers typically make 4’x6’ mini cargo trailers instead of 4’x8’? Yeah, Me Too!
I found it very difficult to find a trailer reseller and manufacture to listen to what I wanted and then build it! I thought I was going to have to build one myself. But then.... Well watch and see what happens on Our Mid West Life!

In the 11 minutes that I watched you continuously repeated what you had originally said about your trailer! Hearing you repeat for at least the third time everything you'd already said was the point that I had to switch off! I am genuinely pleased for you that you got exactly the specification you had wanted, and your trailer looks gorgeous. My comment is not intended as criticism but is simply my observation.

I just bought a used 4x6x5 like this with the ramp. Converting it to a camper/toy hauler... Added 2 windows on the road side and a 26x36 door on the passenger side. Short cabinet in the "V" will hold a 32" TV, Speakers and all elec equipment. Thinking of a ramp room extension!

Just the record there is company called Sundowner that makes high end niche enclosed trailers. They make a Sundowner model in 4x6, 4x8,4x10,and 4x12. As well as 5x6,5x8,5x10,5x12. They are extreme. Carpeted interiors, the rounded roof is curved and hinged with shock absorbers and raises up. Built on an aluminum frame. Expensive! I seen one for sale in Jackson, OH. A 4x6 model. It was $6,700 . They do sell them and typically sell the 4x8 and 4x10 to people who have a show quality custom chopper and won't only the best for their motorcycle. Outrageously expensive to me but they corner a niche market.

I was looking at a small cargo trailer. Just made a purchase. I bought a small 4x6 enclosed trailer. Homesteader brands makes a 4x6 enclosed trailer and a 4x8 enclosed trailer. There is 4x8 trailer for sale right now in Taneytown, MD.

That thing looks fantastic! I just checked out a Interstate 4x8 and it was total junk!!! Brand new at the dealer with rusted frame, missing screws & nails through the plywood. Can you imagine a year from now. I got in my truck and hauled ass.

You will be impressed with how much stuff you can fit in these little trailers. The way I figure it the couple grand I spent on this to pull behind my SUV, saved me $40K on a pick up truck.

I choose the 4x6. I in a situation I work through a union craft. Ibyrvael on occasion sometimes away from home for months at a time. I wanted something small small. Something light enough I could tow with a small SUV like you drive. Sometimes for extended periods I just to much personal belongings to pile into a vehicle. If I staying out of town I'm usually renting a house or trailer with a buddy or buddies or we are staying in reputable motel somewhere. If at motel I wanted small enoughI could drop in a normal parking lot and lock up. Good luck with your purchase. And I got mine in black. My vehicle is white. Couldn't find a fury in white the way I wanted it. Few and far between . One white I found in a reasonable distance was absolutely basic and didn't have stone guard on it. I passed.

I would say they would diagonal from one side of the front to the other side of the back. But not sure of the weight capacity. If you were to order one, I’d tell them your plan incase they need to add a couple more support bars.

Are the inside dimensions just slightly larger then 4X8? So you can haul sheets of drywall, plywood or paneling? What did you plan to use this for besides hauling a dishwasher?

I like the idea of your 4x8 trailer. But are you going to ha=e enough brakes with a car full of family, trailer and all your luggage without trailer brakes? Usually for vehicles like yours, they require trailers to have brakes if towing over 1600 to 2000 pounds. You can be surprised just how much payload wiggly, talking passengers add up too plus all their holiday/trip gear they print along. And that’s before you add bikes and any other toys. That Mitsubishi is going to start getting heavy pretty quick.

All very good points. I have thought about adding breaks. As of right now, I have only had the opportunity to use it to pick up supplies and things like a dishwasher, dryer, etc. so far with Covid limiting fun, it has only been used for short trips. It is possible that I replace the Mitsubishi Outlander as well. This one is almost 5 years old and nearing 80K mileage.

Hey. Thank you so much for this. This is 100% exactly what I have been looking for. I contacted cross trailers and they told me I need to go through a reseller. I have on in my area. They are telling me 6-8 weeks. How long did yours take? Also , to make my life easier they were asking me for a vin on yours so they could build another. Would you be willing to share? Total ended up at $2,342. This is quite a bit more than the standard 4'x8' trailers on the market. But I wanted to get one that was over built and that would last. I wasn't impressed with various other trailer manufacturers appearing to use up scraps they had laying around. Way too many seems on such little trailers. I use mine for everything from picking up appliances, lumber, insulation, and for adventures. I am pretty impressed at how much you can fit inside of it. I highly recommend Cross Trailers and Kate's Kars too.

But I love the size but I would love 4x8 instead and what you stated in the video and now about them using scarp parts is true! 100% true!! I’m going to contact them sometime the end of this year to purchase a black one like yours. I only live about 1hr and 1/2 away from there thank you again

@@DjSonic_Chicago I ordered it on February 11, 2020 and was expecting up to three months. But it arrived at Kate's Kars on March 16 and I picked it up March 17. Was totally amazed at how quickly they made and delivered it to the dealer. (This may be different now if there are part shortages, etc due to the pandemic. but most likely the only possible shortage could be the Aluminum Wheels.

It is a 4’x4’x8’ box with a 2” V nose. So the middle inside a 10’ . The width of the Axle is 70.8” so basically the same width of the average vehicle. The thing I like best about this little guy is, there really is more space than I would have imagined in there and you can see around it with your normal vehicle mirrors.

I picked up in 2020 it was a 2021 model year from the manufacturer. The trailer industry appears to follow the automotive industry release of the new models.

A trailer in a 4x8 would be handy. Handy enough to get lumber or drywall in it. Although not 4' wide inside. A 4x8 should be wide enough and long enough for a toy hauler. Should be able to get a motorcycle in it. Especially if it was V-nose. I commented before I've seen one recently. Homesteader make a Dirt trailer in 4x6 and 4x8 sizes. I just bought a 4x6 a little over a week ago. The 4x6 and 4x8 both sat on a 2000lb axle. Unloaded the 4x6 was 580lb. I've already some accessories, and weight to it adding Ex-trak, spare tire carrier, and rear stabilizer jacks. I'm unsure of the exact weight of the 4x8 model but if you wanted the 4x8t for a toy haul for a motorcycle I think you would be near capacity with a motorcycle. Both of their models have the rest barn door. Not a ramp. Do t think theramp is an option on that particular sizes
