Last year, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke of the declining unemployment figures in his state. He claimed that Uttar Pradesh's unemployment rate has dipped from 17% in 2017 to 5% in 2021. While Adityanath's claim was not faulty, the rationale behind it was. Unemployment rate didn't fall because people got jobs, but because people stopped looking for one.
