Why are people cold to you at first, until you start talking to them?

I've gotten this all my life. It happens to beautiful women. I also get the immediate head to toe millisecond glance.. I've gotten used to it. I'm thankful for it now.. tells me all I need to know about the other person just from that look. It stems from jealousy and intimidation.

A coworker, 3 years later, told me i was this way to him. I know why now. It's because the manager and coworkers were WAY TOO UNPROFESSIONAL around him and I wanted to come across as serious and professional. They were over the top ghetto and unprofessional. I wanted to be seen as someone who knows and does their job. He said i came across as reticent etc. I'm like whatever.

So how should I react to a long time friend who I just found out got married? I guess I wasn’t invited to the wedding…we’re 30 and we were best friends from age 7 to college. And at that point, she kind of stopped considering me a friend for whatever reason. We remained distant friends, though. So why would I be excluded from her wedding? I’m just so confused. I’m hoping it was a very intimate, courthouse wedding. That’s the only explanation that would spare my feelings. EDIT: It wasn’t a courthouse wedding. But it looks like it was kind of an intimate wedding. Still though…I feel so weird about it.

People always think childhood friendships last forever, and a lot of people romanticize them. But often you go off to college and purposely lose your high school friends because you want to “branch out.” I know it’s is easy for me to say, but I wouldn’t take it personally that your friend has distanced herself. She very well might come back to the friendship. And likely, as you said, the wedding was very small in order to save money.

Yessss!!!!! ...and if she comes to find you after things go bad with the marriage, then yes ok, be her friend, but be cautious. Don't need the friendship to be perfect!:)
