If something is "free", you are the payment. More specifically, your data or something relating to your data. If a company has a viable method of making money and their revenue from said method could reasonably cover their expenses, they may or may not be mining your data. Data is precious.

Of course as Mark notes, you are the product for any number of high tech services so nothing new. Straight from the Wyzecam privacy agreement (section D California Privacy Rights) on what is collected and sold to third parties: “Internet or electronic network activity information, including, but not limited to, browsing history, search history, and information regarding your interaction with the Wyze Labs Technology; Geolocation data; Audio, electronic, visual, thermal, olfactory, or similar information; and Inferences drawn to create a profile about a consumer reflecting the consumer’s preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.”

For all those concerned with personal security breaches I concur. I therefore never have cams indoor. I don’t give a shit if a hacker watches my house outside.

I want to put a couple of cameras out at a barn where I have some mini horses. There is no WIFI so I will have to setup a hotspot. Security is not an issue I just want to observe them in real time occasionally so not planning on using motion detect. I am concerned about exceeding the hotspot data plan. My questions is: Do these cameras constantly send video to the Wyze cloud or will it only upload video only when I access the camera using the Wyze app? How many hours of video per Gig of data should I expect?

They have outdoor cameras coming this year as well as Smart Bulbs

They have the smart bulbs, smart plugs, smart locks, etc. but still no outdoor capable camera. I saw another supplier that has a clear snug fit plastic cover to keep all but the base dry, and it comes with a metal mounting kit so it could be mounted under an eave or similar surface. I think it sold for about $13.

I have two cameras sitting in my window looking outside. They work well but do not like being behind a screen. Just be sure to turn off the IR light or it will reflect off the window and drown out the video at night.

I think it was "wyze" of them not to go bananas over the cloud service. 1. This has local storage. 2. Cloud service is going to be bullshit in the near future when ppl figure out NAS systems and own their own cloud drive. The thought of someone having videos of my home is down right creepy.

Camera companies that force people to buy Cloud subscriptions are going to be sued out of business by the people who didn't catch the criminals. These companies were more concerned about greed, than catching criminals. Absolutely no reason these cameras can't stream to WD Wi-Fi HD, Nas drive, NVR or DVR, except for greed of camera makers, cloud service providers & SD card makers. If a murder was not videoed because of their greed, they should be charged with accessory to murder.

Yes, good hardware I suppose, but for me, along with many others, as research reveals, there is a major problem with their app. It really messes up bluetooth connection, makes my phone call itself. Have to force stop the app, or even reboot my phone to correct the issue. There are other problems as well. And Wyze is no help.

I was just searching for an article or a youtube video done by some IT Guy or a computer nerd to prove this is actually true. On amazon a few reviewers say they were able to monitor the network traffic and they say it IS giving your data away. I was wondering if you came across articles or videos about this. I am not a much a network geek myself
