I have an RV and if anyone owns an RV you know that finding security for it is next to nothing. With an unlimited data plan from AT&T and this camera with 1080p and NO LAN required, I'm finally able to have a way to monitor activity in my RV when I'm away with the toad (car I tow) and finally have piece of mind since I'm able to monitor everything via the app. Knowing that it's recording motion, sound, and listening for the smoke and CO detector as well is A+ security for me. If you want a LAN product, there are plenty other cameras to consider. I'm grateful for this company for making something for people that don't have the ability to have a LAN setup. I'm going send the Wyze Cam info to other RV'ers because we need security too and until now there wasn't any.

If you don't have a LAN you wont be able to access your camera, what are you exactly trying to say here? Do you have a wireless access point that creates its own wireless network that the cameras connect to? If you do well then my friend you do in fact have a LAN. Unless you hardwired modem into your RV and ran ethernet to the camera somehow, also no switch would be involved to connect anything else as you don't want to create a LAN in your scenario so modem would me dedicated to only the camera alone.

I have 5 of these cameras, ordered the first one when they first started. I liked it so much that I bought 2 more. Then when they came out with 2 I ordered more and started to give them as gifts. Now I added a pan to my collection. Love the little cameras. 3 I have outside. So far so good.

This is the best small HD security camera I owned and I did own a lot including those that cost me 5 times of this without delivering even 1/3 of what this amazing thing gives. The time lapse of this camera is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G ! Buy it with no reservation and if they follow the market I know, they'll raise the price and even then it worth. But if they continue to sell at this price and you don't buy it then you know what you should call yourself.

Question, I would like to use this to film a trip around my HO train layout. The wide angle might be somewhat of a problem, will have to see. But if the company doesn't survive would the camera still work to record to a card that can be downloaded to my computer or would than function also not work if the company closes? Thx!

I have two of the first version, and purchased the version 2 camera as soon as they announced it. The only thing missing for me is the ability to select zones so that it does not detect areas of the picture like swaying trees and such. I did ask about that, and I was told that this is something they are working on. Even though the app only records 12 seconds when an alert occurs, a user can record longer clips by recording the video from the Playback option. A memory card is required to do that, tough. Wyze suggests that the camera can record to a memory card from 16 to 32 GB, but I have a 64 GB card in my cameras and it works fine. I am considering getting a few more cameras for other areas of my property..

I bought a couple of these after watching your review around June. I only use these for OUTSIDE USE ONLY. After testing this camera indoors I noticed something rather odd. Lets talk about my Indoor camera experience I have other camera's that I can setup using RTSP . Ok Fine for the price I can't complain but what I did notice is the UDP traffic that was NOT hitting AWS servers but Ip's around the world that are not aws.. Why? That bothered me so I decided to disable any internet access blocking it at my router. Well the Cam Wyze Cam decided to change its mac address and it tried to gain another ip!!!! WTF So Ip's going around the world that are not AWS verified including to China. It records while even if you shut it off (if you are home it will still record while you are home even if you don't want it to) The fact that it doesn't like being blocked from the internet and tries to access by changing its mac address on its own.. I would not trust these inside my home. You can stare at my street all day, but this company will never be inside my house again.

Am new to these security cams and have a few YI model. Work great but don't like the idea of going to a server, when the server is down so is your camera. YI had a 3 day outage recently. Lan would be a much better choice and would allow greater flexibility!

2:30 - Thanks for pointing that out . Why do so many devices REFUSE to offer LAN/WIFI network access via standard HTTP ? If the company goes tits up that means you have no online server to connect to and if your internet fails or goes offline your stuck without a way to locally config/use the device

Hmm, so you HAVE to have a Wyze account to access the video on the SD card? I'm looking for a camera that you can see via an app, but video is ONLY stored locally. Recording directly to my phone would be great. But would like to avoid cloud storage at all costs.

The hardware and software and experience seem nice for the price. BUT... I'm a little worried as to why they make me go through their servers. It would be something which adds expense for them. Required perhaps to have some features users expect without any tricky setup. But they could always have an 'advanced' tab which might give the RTSP stream and allow some setting in cam for updating firmware manually or turning off their server check in. It would open up the audience and save them money on servers. And in the end I'm left a little wondering "why?" Why not give this option which would reduce their cost? I also wonder what, if any, privacy policy they have. Any device you set up for connecting to the web from inside your network is something I'd need quite a bit of faith in. I don't know what data it's collecting or whom it might send it to. It's probably fine. But I confess the low cost and seemingly illogical choice of forcing me to use a service which costs them more leaves me too uneasy to just add this into my network.

Good review. Subjects not covered: 1. Android app. Some products have different features between their iOS and Android apps. 2. Picture orientation. You showed mounting the camera upside down but does the app have a way to rotate the image so that it is displayed correctly?

Yes, in Xiaomi's software, you can flip the images.

This is the XiaoFang WebCam from Xiaomi, it seems that this "Wyze" company simply translated Xiaomi's software, give it a new name and picked a US based server to run the service. The app you demonstrated in the video function exactly like how it does in Xiaomi's Mi Home App, only difference is this one is slightly "localized" for the US market.

They're making a huge mistake by not allowing LAN-only use. A simple software update could enable this and win over a hell of a lot more people on the fence. Knowing this, makes their insistence on streaming to the cloud that much more suspicious. I ordered one an hour or so ago, but only because of how I'll be using it. I'll never allow this to peer into anything in my life that could be considered private or sensitive. Also, I don't see how they justify the required cloud streaming due to how much that costs them considering they are only getting a few bucks per camera. If they go under because of their silly business model, hopefully they'll release Lan only support.

You can find 32gb SD cards on Amazon for as little as $5 for a good one. I just bought 2 if these cameras and the SD cards. With the deal on the echo show, it was 34.99 for the echo show & wyze cam together and another $4.99 for the 32gb SD cards that was sold separately. You can use any FAT32 formatted sd card up to 32gb.

I seems too good to be true ... from both a price point and the features offered ... ;-) I'll want more than just the one I ordered ... ;-) If at some point in the future, the cloud function becomes unavailable ... or just too expensive ... will this security camera still function ? Will I still be able to record to the SD card even if it was just a continuous loop recording ... it would still provide all I need in a security camera? That way, we could just plug it in and forget about it ... until such time as there was a reason to find if anything was captured on the SD card ...

You can't use xiaomi one outside of mainland China. With some tweaks you can use it with wifi mode only but never with 3g or 4g

surely the issue is not the physical hardware (it is very attractive) but what is happening on the network it is connected to? MAYBE I am paranoid but if there are snoops around this "camera" (if it becomes very popular) opens many networks to unwanted traffic. OK they might be looking for stuff brought home from work or maybe the might like my snail population but it may be dormant until awakened 20 years hence for some function that does not exist now. OK I am paranoid. It is not necessarily a threat from the country of manufacture - there are many snoops. The least likely snoops are based in Antarctica.

No, it doesn't. And z-wave have very low data speed, so feed of a camera will never be via zwave. However, this work with IFTTT. So if your zwave hub support also IFTTT, they can be linked together, so mainly triggering things. I didn't test if allow doing that, but for example, motion detection could do something to any of your zwave devices, or any zwave devices could trigger recording.

I purchased 4 Wyze Cams over the past several months. In that time, one of the cameras lost its IR capability and none of their mic talk functions ever worked. When I contacted support for the IR issue, it took a week for support to respond and then only to tell me what I needed to do to troubleshoot their problem camera....and it was a lot of crap to go through just to troubleshoot something that should have worked longer than a few weeks. I didn't feel that I should have to deal with that so I asked for a swap of a new camera, but again, I would have to jump through hoops to make that happen. I make decent money as a business analyst and considering the time and effort it would take me to fulfill that request, along with the cheap price of the camera, it wasn't a cost effective swap for me. There were other issues such as frequent audio blanks in addition to obvious omissions of things the cameras should have recorded like deliveries being made at my front door. In my opinion they rolled out this product before vetting all of the basic functionality which would explain why many many other Wyze Cam owners are having the same issues. The upside to this product is the function over cost. I consider these disposable products and do not recommend them in critical areas as it isn't a reliable product...short or long term. Spend more money for a reliable product and peace of mind....

If the product does not charge a monthly fee, but prevents you from bypassing their servers, then they are making money from those free accounts by either selling some data or listening for keywords in order to do targeted advertising.

I liked your video, but do a real unedited video showing the features working please. I just got 2 of these and the detection is horrible and so are the notifications. The app crashes on Android as well, looses connection to the cameras even though the network is 90%+...etc .etc.. I see a lot of videos like yours, but no real world test, all talk and just clips of things. I say all this because it might be worth $20 for some of the features, but this i snot a reliable detection/notification camera and to tell people it is with no proof is a dis service.

I'm very impressed with the product's software capabilities. But the price just seems like it is meant to have widespread proliferation.

My gut on this one is that they have a little more leway given they're using somebody else's hardware. No industrial designer, plastic injection molds, hardware engineers etc. They can focus just on software and make a small margin on each unit sale. So they can run with a much smaller team. I'm sure they have plans for larger revenue opportunities with the install base they're building out now.

Grab the Original Xiaomi xiaofang camera for the same price. Apply the RTSP "hack" and enjoy your hardware without needing to be dependant on their servers. Same firmware might work for this camera, but since Gearbest sells the Xiaomi for the same price, why take a chance.
