Mike, for all of your viewers who have a Sedona dehydrator, which comes with one solid base tray: I discovered you can put soaked mung beans on one of the perforated trays set on top the water filled solid tray and wellah- a perfect large growing container which can be washed in the dishwasher! I start by spraying the overnight soaked mung beans with water with a bit of citric acid. Then i cover with ever plentiful light brown plastic grocery bags ; then basically " set and forget" as you say, Mike. Also, when you said you liked to use things you had around the house, this inspired my own search leading to discovering my perfect way to grow bean sprouts.Thanks Mike for all you efforts in teaching us.

Glad to see you combine the jar sprouting with the grow box. I started sprouts in a jar then had to travel a couple days. Since you have to rinse them twice daily I didn’t want to leave them behind… so here I am… in a hotel with my jar of sprouts. Had I know, I could have put them in the grow box for the couple days I’ve been got. Binging on your videos and anxious to try more and more!

They were some great looking sprouts, Mike. I have "something" growing in a jar on the counter. I was planting seeds the other day, extra seeds in my hand got damp. Threw em in a jar. Just don't remember if it's kale, or some other asian green, or lettuce. Most of my sprouts I let sit in light for about 6 hrs to develop the chlorophyll. I also put a few drops of GSE in my mister to keep mold at bay. Pure chamomile tea will do the same, it is a natural antifungal as well.

@@alekjwrgnwekfgn with chamomile I'd use a concentrate. I go with GSE in most cases. I have a few pump type pressurized sprayers I use for misting, one I add about 30 drops of GSE to the 1 liter of water. I've seen it take mold, algae, and the dampening off fungus almost instantly. I sprayed a basil that had algae on a block of rock wool in a net cup and it was instant.

I’m a little disappointed because I had hoped you would explain what to do when your beans aren’t growing well like the title suggested. Besides that I absolutely LOVE how you taught how to grow them successfully! I got those special mason jar lids with the screens that affix on to the top and I could never figure out how to use them or what exactly to do I had horrible luck with them. But I also didn’t realize that I was suppose to rinse them and refill every day either until they sprouted and then could be moved to another medium. Thanks for explaining that I just may try something like that again! 🥰🇨🇦🙏🏻❤️🌈

Sorry, I meant for the title to mean this was easy, why aren't you doing it. Don't give up. When I grow in a sprout jar, I rinse and keep it inverted, slightly slanted so it can drain. I rinse a few times a day.

I have tried repeatedly to grow beansprouts, following your earlier videos similar to this one. I’ve also tried other KZbin videos to work out what I’m doing wrong. I rinse as prescribed but absolutely every single attempt goes pear-shaped; ,everything goes mushy and smelly. Is there a special mung bean to do this? I bought some from a regular store. Maybe one needs special ones? Or maybe it’s too hot here in Australia?

Make sure they are draining properly. They just need some water and have it drain well after a few times a day.

Yes- we do something similar. Dump your sprouts into a large bowl and fill with cool water. Mix up with your hand and let the hulls float up. Discard as many as you can. Drain the sprouts, wrap them firmly in paper toweling to remove excess water. Let the sprouts sit for a while on fresh toweling to dry out. Put a paper towel on the bottom of a container, spread out the dry sprouts, cover with a paper towel and snap the lid down. Refridgerate. Sprouts never last long in our house, but for an experiment we left some for two weeks and they still looked and tasted great raw. We use one of those large clear plastic boxes in which spring greens or pastries are sold.

Mike: I'm confused. Why is it so many entries when "googling" how to grow mung beans, say to harvest in TWO days? All the You Tube videos I watch say, wait SIX to SEVEN days? Also, do people use the sprouts in your jar stage to put into their salads, etc.? Is it just a matter of personal taste at what stage you harvest? Also, I thought once the sprouts start producing leaves, then it is considered to be a microgreen. But I see you have leaves on your sprouts that you are harvesting & you refer to them as sprouts. Anyway, any clarification would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks - Susan Burns
@KeepOnGrowin2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter what you call them, that is a technicality. Experiment, taste at different stages and do as you like. You are doing too much research, lol. Throw some in a jar and start, when they sprout, try them out. The ones in a jar should be used in a few days because of the high moisture environment that is conducive to mold growth. If you grow them like microgreens, they can go longer. There are a lot more regulations on selling sprouts than there is on microgreens. Just try some and have fun.
