Their love may have been rushed but Prince Eric is hands down one of the two most badass Princes in Disney. He killed a giant Sea Witch with the powers of Triton by stabbing her in the gut with a sunken ship to save his girl! That just screams dependable! XD If your curious about the other badass Princes in Disney. Second is Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty slaying a powerful witch/dragon still revered to this day as one of most evil/powerful Disney villains. Comment below if there’s any other badass Disney Princes I may have forgot about. I feel like Aladdin should count even though he’s technically a street rat but when he marries Jasmine that would end up making him a Sultan not a Prince so this feels debatable. XD

Ariel has always been my Favorite Disney Princess too. She was my first love as a kid (and still is now), she began my fascination with Mermaids, I love her character/personality, and I recently found out that her design was inspired by the early Anime works of Miyazaki so she inadvertently led to my current love of the Anime/Manga style. Which makes it suck all the more when people go making these stupid false criticisms of Ariel "giving up her voice just to be with a man" or "being rewarded for being a bad role model throughout the movie". Still, despite all this and because I know these accusations hold no water (no pun intended), I love Ariel anyways. One of the biggest highlights of my life was getting to (virtually) meet her VA, Jodi Benson, and her signing my Collector's Edition Steelbook of the movie with original art by Paige O'Hara (Belle). I just got so emotional in that moment cuz I finally got to meet my childhood hero and she was an absolute delight the whole time, so understanding of me being a stuttering wreck in her presence. She truly is a class act and incredible human.

That's why Ariel is my favorite. This is coming from a guy who grew up in the 2000s who was hooked into boy stuff (like action heroes and comics) and looked down at girly stuff as sissy garbage (including the Disney Princesses). So, I never expected Ariel to be an active (and brave) heroine.

I see more and more people say Belle doesn't change towards the end of the film and okay maybe she doesn't ever literally say "I've changed" over the course of the film (which she does sing about in the musical stage version where her development is more literally stated), but in addition to coming around to liking the Beast she comes off as much more grounded in the latter half when she willingly returns to the village she once complained about as provincial to take care of her father (who before was the only thing probably keeping her there in the first place). Where she was just mildly annoyed with Gaston at the start and saw him as easily dismissible as a husband and nothing more than boorish and brainless (which she doesn't even say to his face) after her experience in the castle she's much more willing to call a spade a spade in outright referring to him as a monster. She's mildly selfish at the start as evinced by her running out on the Beast a few hours into her bargain with him, but in the latter half stands up to an angry mob to protect him. So she does go through character development but the viewer isn't handheld throughout to come to that conclusion

Belle ran out on the Beast because he scared her out of the West Wing and you call her mildly selfish? Not a good statement to make. You would've done so as well if the Beast roared at you out of his room.

@@chilathecreativefox9098 You're right and that's called fight or flight response - which is in and of itself a "selfish" act, and by nature isn't a bad thing. I specifically mentioned that because years ago on the now defunct Disney chatrooms of old there was this ongoing debate about why exactly Belle was so popular and the running theme was "she broke the Beast's one rule he set out and then ran off breaking her promise when he got angry and then blamed him when he saved her even though she almost destroyed his life by touching the rose" and so thereby that made her selfish. We're ALL a little selfish by nature and her saying "promise or no promise" was putting herself first which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The original Belle in the fairy tale likely would have stayed and not violated the West Wing rule he set out for her, but the animated Belle was curious and spunky but also made the very human choice to just run out on the Beast when he roared at her rather than just cower in the corner and go "I can't break my promise."

Why does Ariel means so much to me? Growing up as a boy in the 2000s, I was into all sorts of boy and action stuff like Hot Wheels, Bionicals, superheroes, and so on. But, I was also disgusted with girly sissy stuff like Barbie, Bratz, and of course the Disney Princesses (or princess stuff in general). However, I bumped into a video game called Kingdom Hearts (the first game) and Ariel was a party and what I didn't expect was how badass she was in the game. So, I was instantly hooked into the character because I was overly exposed to how the Disney Princesses were marketed as damsels and romantics. So, being an active (and badass) heroine is a side of Ariel that I never saw. And by some coincidence, Roger Ebert said in his review of The Little Mermaid that his favorite part of the movie was Ariel because as quoted, "The character is active. She's not a passive little girl where things happen to her around her." And like you said, Ariel had an active role in the film (outwitting a shark, destroying Ursula's eels in the climax, and saving Prince Eric from drowning and from Ursula). So, I put Ariel highly on my list as not only my favorite Disney princess, but also my 2nd favorite Disney character (behind Buzz Lightyear), and she's one of my all time favorite characters in fiction (up there with Patrick Star and Sonic the Hedgehog) because as stated previously, I've looked down at princess characters as girly, sissy, weak, and helpless damsels in distress who do nothing but wait to be rescued, a trope that princess characters are infamous for. To conclude, Ariel (is the first Disney princess who) takes the classic princess trope, takes it to a new direction, and is an active heroine who's far from your typical damsel in distress who sits around waiting to be rescued. She is just as intersting, with a memorble love story with high stakes and the obsticals Ariel goes through throughout her journey, as she is lovable, adorable, and her design and voice are the icing on the cake. Whenever I watch her on screen, Ariel manages to put me in a good mood.

My Top 5 are: 5. Elsa (A misunderstood victim who many treat her as a threat. But, she's really misunderstood with powers she was cursed with, making her interesting and sympathetic). 4. Belle (She's smart, independent, but kind and genuine). 3. Tiana (She takes the infamous follow your dreams lesson and turns it upside down by aknowleding that getting what you want comes from hard work, not just wishing on a star thus making her down to earth and realistic). 2. Anna (She's the princess I relate to the most. She acts and thinks like me, she's quotable, her chemistry with Kristoff is a lot of fun, and I dug her character growth in Frozen 2 because of how I relate to her). #1. I actually like the scaly torsos quire a bit. The whole design where the torso is scale covered as their tails is a nice design, and good way to shake things up. Only from the neck upwards is there any bare human skin. That design should be used more often, as I find it aesthetically pleasing. Also, Eric and Triton both have an "aha' moment, or a revelation Ariel lacks: Triton realizing he only made her more difficult to control by being too strict with her, and made her run away, and Eric deciding to stop chasing dreams and ignoring what he had right under his nose. "A' never had any moment like that.

I got my first... and only for years after, speeding ticket on my way to Blockbuster video when I found out there was a LM2. That movie horribly betrayed my excitement. I dress up as Ariel every year at AwesomeCon. My daughter had done some research on how we could get some Ariel similar dresses before trying to convince me to dress up. I really love your video. I've been a fan of Ariel since as a little girl. I like all of the songs but Part of your World is very inspiring and love the passion in the song. Ngl. There's one scene I noticed last night while watching this movie again. There's a tiny sound from after Grimsby comments 'far better than any dream girl yadda' Eric throws his flute. And it whistles. Idk why but it's deeply funny to me considering I never noticed it before. Also, fun fact everyone. The staircase Ariel runs down when seeing Vanessa, is the first scene Pixar animated for Disney. You can even see as she turns the corner at the bottom of the stairs that he hand doesn't even touch the staircase rail where she stops, her hand waves in front of it. My guess on this tiny animation detail is that, since this was still the era of hand drawn, it wasn't yet possible to make 2D hand drawn look like it's properly interacting with 3D elements, because there was no digital 2D animation yet.

me2 but They fixed all the flaws that the critics did and could find in the original film . this remake is my favorite remake so far and as the biggest fan of the original Little Mermaid1989 It's a good thing that the new Ariel and the original are different, because Ariel 1989 has a special place in my life and no Ariel could take its place . some people was ready to replace the original with any white trash with fake ugly wig even at the cost of having the worst voice and not even being able to sing like the original Ariel, who has the most beautiful voice if you have seen the original movie or if you care at all. worst thing is they called themselves fan !!!! disney little mermaid fans this disney little mermaid fans that but all of them wants to see disney fail if disney make remakes theyr lazy and out of ideas but if someone else do it with disney story they fine with it . a bunch of hypocrites
