I lived in Japan for 1 year and Korea for 4 years, and many people (mostly women) practice restrictive eating habits, or have EDs. There is a lot of pressure to be thin. I taught at an all girls high school and many of my students did all types of fad diets and were thin, but were not healthy at all.
@yuenlucia54542 жыл бұрын
It is true. I think East Asian society discriminates against overweight women. That's why society has pressure on ALL girls/women to stay thin. You are probably never able to find a job if you are obese. This is how East Asia see women. It's all about body image and looks rather than "healthy".

@@yuenlucia5454 They might be keeping everyone healthy, if you think about it. It's true that some people overeat when they're stressed, but that's a bad coping mechanism. Society might not be putting pressure on all girls and women in East Asia, because they might like to keep themselves clean and healthy, so it's common to find fit, healthy, and clean women there. I think it's very true that if you are obese, it will be hard for you to find a job. That might be because people will think that if you're not fit and healthy, then this can mean that you don't look after your health. They might think that if you don't care about your health, you won't perform your job well. I also agree with you on the fact that society pressures some girls and women. 🤔🤔🤔

so many kpop spaces talk as if and naively believe that these Asians are naturally thin when majority are what you said they are. in fact just going to college and meeting an international student from Korea I already knew about their EDs and consciousness of their weight. she didn't outright say she had an ed but her thinking was disordered bc for someone who was already slim (but with womanly curves) she was unhappy with how she looked and actually preferred my pubescent body LOL. more people need to spread the truth on how common and prevalent EDs are in Asia and to dispel the myth that Asians are naturally skinny - there's no thing as being naturally thin (in fact babies are born chubby) it's all just lifestyle.

How do you like the difference in the foods between the two countries? What's your favorite food here in the USA?
@CocoasArt4 жыл бұрын
@@jennSalvate Well first really big noticeable difference for me was school food Living in Russia never once i would thought its possible to have pizza, nuggets, fries, chocolate milk, and stuff like that at school Ngl when I first found out I was really excited because "omg yummy food!" 😂 But now I understand that the "boring" school food in Russian was not that boring after all Some stuff i remember from school are, hard boiled eggs, porridge, buckwheat, rice, chicken, fish. Also for luch there was always a soup option. For drink there would usually be tea, or some kind of drink made out of dried fruit i don't know the name of. Another thing I noticed, there are so many places to go out to eat, and going out to eat is like a normal thing here, where as in Russia people usually go out to eat only on special occasions. And my favorite food in US, I really don't know I guess peanut butter When i lived in Russia I never seen peanut butter there. Maybe there is now But I just love peanut butter with apples/bananas

I must shop with a back pack and it's absolutely awful. ^^ Wanting a watermelon in the summer? Hell this is going to hurt my back. Picking a pack of rice and some vegetabeles and fruits and it is full. No chance to shop for more than one ore two days. Super stressful and after walking home and carrying them to the 4th floor my shoulders hurt so much. And yet I am not skinny. When I am shopping groceries with my boyfriend on weekends with his car, I do not need to think twice if or how I can carry them bananas home, especially without squashing them. So much easier and I am picking much more fresh stuff.
@slk76597 жыл бұрын
I know sometimes I have to make 2 trips for groceries. LOL I do use the car when it is dog food and cat litter time. If it is not worth me spending the extra time walking there and back (be it that day or a different one) vs driving then do I need it that badly? That has kept me from some not so great decisions. Sometimes it is a pain but it is worth it for me. I even recruit the daughter once in a while. It is one of the few times that I do get some alone time to relax.

*Pizza! Is! Not! Junk! Food!* I’m Italian and I hate it when people put Pizza in the same category of burgers or hotdogs Most diets (advised from professional dietitians) state that it is completely fine to have a pizza once per week. Maybe it’s the way it’s made traditionally in Italy (not precooked but freshly made with quality ingredients) but it’s not empty calories nor junk food!
@elizabetha12686 жыл бұрын
Sveva Yeah, ONCE per week is fine. Just like having a cheat day with a mcdonalds is fine if you only have it once in a while but if you have it everyday or most of the time then that when it becomes unhealthy

Actually im not Italian but im thinking that pizza is not in the same categorie with those other foods that she said. Maybe its because a lot of people can get only "bread like pizza with full of extra things on it" i mean good pizza isnt that harmful i guess.

Sveva Traditional Italian pizza ? Lot healither and delicious - no grease all good ingredients, but the processed rubbish is junk food
@12345678956306 жыл бұрын
Sveva If you look at "American pizza" it has a ton of meat and cheese on it. Some even gush huge amounts of olive oil on the pizza. There is no fresh mozzarella, no fresh basil and the tomato sauce sometimes is canned and not fresh. A typical Italian pizza with only the "basic" ingredients of pizza dough, tomato sauce, few slices of mozzarella and fresh barsli is about 1/3 to half of the calories of a common pizza in America. Americans also have huge portion sizes or eat a whole pizza by themselves while in Italy one pizza is often shared among family and friends...
@rehannadsamara73426 жыл бұрын
If you look at pizza hut pizza's for example,its full of cheese and butter,loaded of calories..l went to Italy the difference is so obvious..true pizza l will call it,ful of fresh vegetables ,fresh tomato sauce ,thin bread..so much difference

I am go both ways. Sometimes if I'm eating while I watch something I just sort of shovel it in without actually paying attention to what I'm eating, but if I'm watching something and really trying to listen to it, I don't eat so much because chewing drowns out the show 😂

I even stopped eating sometimes when I'm watching videos😂

I mean... My friend lived in Thailand and was perfectly fine, average size, normal bmi. She went to US for uni and gained 10kg in less than a year....

My Indian classmate went to USA and she gained 10 kilos in a year! Before going to the US she was average sized not underweight or overweight, but living in the US even for a year, she gained weight!!

MorningGloryy it’s all sugar. I live in the US and it’s so hard to eat healthy. Junk food is cheaper than veggies and fruits. People want to move here but I’m getting out of here when I’m older
@ohhimark68644 жыл бұрын
@@divyapurawal4337 where do you wanna live :D ? I mean, watching all the news about America now I lowkey understand why you wanna move out too lol.

MorningGloryy I’m not completely sure yet but I narrowed it down to Japan, South Korea, or Singapore since their economies are booming and bc they’re very advanced. They’re gorgeous and there would also be great places to work at since I want to be a plastic surgeon.

Best way to loose weight , is always eat your veggies first before your main Meal.. like for example when u order pizza and salad , it's better idea to finish your Cesar salad first so then , you won't end up eat 2 to 4 slice pizza. And also eat your fruits first before your meal , because fruits and veggies digest quicker

Excellent advice. Also, drinking a glass of water before you eat anything helps you feel full and also helps you digest your food :-)

It's true that salads can have more calories than other unhealthy foods. Don't let the fruits and veggies label fool you. An obvious example would be like saying cake is healthy if there are fruit toppings on it..

You are so right!! When I began my weight loss journey, i gained a lot of inspiration from asian cuisine (I have Maangchi to thank) because they're just so good at making vegetables taste great, they pack a punch, and there's an abundance of recipes that can be replicated in other countries. If all you have in your area is soy sauce, that will cover you for most recipes.
