I worked in retail many years ago when I was in my 20s and sitting down at the cash register will make you work slower than, if you stood and took care of customers! We did an experiment at that company to see, if you work just as fast sitting vs standing, and none of the employees worked as fast sitting vs standing because you have to move around quickly when you are attending, cashiering and bagging a customer's merchandise! When you sit, you aren't as efficient because of the position you're in and it feels real akward in such a posture. In Europe, fast customer service isn't a requirement like it is in the U.S. They have a different mindset to customer service vs the U.S.! The U.S. is about dollars per hour at a retailer, so you have to usher people in and out a store as quickly and efficiently as possible. In Europe, not so much!

Why yes, we do want more money for less hours of the week. These CEOs think that productivity will lesson if we work less, but nothing motivates an employee more than more money and more free time. Plus, less hours in the week means less time to "lean and clean". Can't tell you how many jobs I've worked where we just stood there with nothing to do but we HAD to be there. Lessening the work week means there'll be more fire under butts to actually get work done instead of "well we got 4 days left, we can just take our time"
@hiflyer000 Жыл бұрын
This is 100% a management problem. More often than not your only reward for working hard and going above and beyond is to have more work and responsibilities piled on you. Anyone who has been in the corporate world for a decent amount of time knows this. If there was an actual, tangible benefit then we wouldn't be having any of these discussions.

1:59 I have news for this person, as a former soldier I can absolutely guarantee we put in the bare minimum with regularity. Even in a conflict zone, what do you think, everyone's walking around on 100% high alert 24/7? If you think so, give it a try.

Companies are just mad she coined the phrase before they could come up with the idea for Minimum Wage Monday.
@jpny4750 Жыл бұрын
The thing is that once you move up the ladder in a company, you have the freedom to do this. I know people who block every Monday in their calendar until 1 PM to prevent getting meetings or calls scheduled. Nobody questions that. But if rank and file employee tried that, it would be unacceptable.
@yowaiomae91411 ай бұрын
I thought people going up on ladder face more pressure than anything
@jpny475011 ай бұрын
@@yowaiomae914- Yes, there is pressure, but it is different type of pressure. The higher up you are, the more likely you have greater responsibility for company revenues and the least likely you are to have a line manager who manages your daily comings and goings. If blocking your calendar in the morning helps the company bottom line, it is unlikely anyone will stop you, or that anyone will even challenge you. You are expected to manage yourself and as long as you deliver what the company expects of you, you continue next year. Keep in mind that you blocking time in your calendar will never inconvenience your boss simply because your boss doesn’t care about your calendar. If he schedules a meeting for 4 am, for example, you will be there.

This is why my favorite job was at a 24/7 gym. I worked the graveyard shift. They couldn't get a single one of their day people to cover nights on the weekend and the weekday night person wouldn't do it either. I was the only person in the entire region (apparently) that would work nights on the weekend. That level of job security meant I could easily sit around and play vidya for 6 hours straight with one hour segments bookending each end of the shift and nobody would say shit to me. In fact they were just grateful I showed up and stayed awake. Even loaned me out to other local gyms to let me get a change of scenery while I chilled! 😆 I'd order pizza and play old flash games and tell customers to talk to days if I didnt know how to help them. If the pay wasn't minimum I would have stayed there for life. Best job I ever had: seatwarming! 🤣 TL;DR: Bare minimum Mondays are great when they're every day.

Bare minimum wages & benefits, no advancement, and maximum workload deserve bare minimum work. Working like three people on late hours and on weekends and loyalty to the firm get you nothing, but gives your employer peace of mind that they can abuse you without consequence.

I prefer to call it "Meeting Mondays" so management can get it out of their system and the rest of the week can be productive.

Some companies practice bare minimum raises and no outrage ensues. I know an over-employed (2 jobs) remote contractor who practices bare minimum Monday thru Fridays, and takes long lunches too.

When you're disenfranchised from your job and not paid by productivity, why wouldn't the bare minimum be fine? It's like telling a company to do extra work for customers without expectation of increased profit. If they want to play Monopoly don't expect me to play nice, I didn't choose the game.

It's a terrible name. We're changing it to Do Your Job And Go Home Monday. No staying late. No I'm depth work on non-urgent things. (But just make sure you do your job on the other days.) We need to make sure we don't promote slacking off.

Craziest part of those videos is this is the only time ever I see 'viral tiktoks' or real tv shows and commentators. Who are those people who watch some random lady's morning routine thousands of miles away? And then get excited by what some people on the tv say about it? Honestly who tf watches tv morning shows? And then I start to wonder is it me who's out of touch? With trends, culture etc?

Like Josh said, IF you are lucky enough to somewhat structure your weekly schedule... I actually recommend to do the opposite: overload hours at the beginning of the week so that you can relax more and coast towards the end of the week. It's tough to get enough motivation to push hard on Mondays and (sometimes) Tuesdays, but that extra effort makes the rest of the week a lot easier. You don't feel like you're playing catch-up with your hours, and you tend to have a jump on your tasks. You may even be able to take the last half of Friday off, or sleep in during the last half of the week. Again, I understand that many people, especially those who do not work remotely, are unable to do this. With that said, love the channel and good luck, everyone, with your tech careers.

I get bare minimum wages, was given bare minimum pay increase after working 3 positions (my job and someone else's that left, plus was assigned 2 employees to babysit as a manager without title nor pay). Needless to say, after 9 years in this company and seeing multiple mediocre employees getting promoted while I've been passed over, I've began my search for a new job!!! I'm setting boundaries of not answering my cell phone outside of working hours and will not reply to texts either!!!

Even self-employed people have deadlines. I never worked harder than when I was a self-employed real estate appraiser. Bare Minimum Mondays are fine your business doesn't have anything going on that day. If you're a valued employee, you can set your boundaries. Sure there are pressures, but that goes both ways, if you're good at what you do and people like you. I give them 8 hrs a day, and I don't do weekends. When that isn't good enough, I move on. There's always another job.

I've been self employe for some time and, the fact is, I get up late on Mondays... and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursda... but I end up working into the evenings a nights making things happen because that's when I do my best. Most self-employed people work MORE hours than most. They just work those hours WHEN they are at their best instead of an outdated factory schedule from 1929. The media is so lame taking the video out of context and these "journalists" should be ashamed.

Exactly. Do what you are paid to do. Nothing more. Period. I busted my butt and burned myself out. I finally realized after my last and best annual merit evaluation, it just isn’t worth all my hard work and effort just to make these corporate monsters wealthier and myself being forced to fight for the reward. They suck. Incredibly stressful and energy depleting. So I “Quiet Quit” until retiring from working in healthcare at 60 free of debt and leaving the rat race workforce in 2021 with my employer matched and unmatched retirement accounts and a nice size bank savings account. Not to mention collecting my well earned Social Security benefits I paid into all my working life. Since my teens. I learned from my Mom(Medical Technologist) who I lost at 62 to cancer in 1997. She never got to enjoy her well earned retirement and Social Security benefits she paid into for decades. This is exactly what these greedy, corrupt evildoer government bureaucrats want. Hence them pushing our full retirement age further and further out. At 70 half of us will be dead and never collect our earned Social Security benefit we all paid into for decades, so that they can take it our money. Absolutely evil.
