I struggle with alcohol too Tim. Can never just have 1 or 2 beers, has to be 12 or more. If I just don't have the first one I'm good. I went 6 years sober. I really want to get healthy again. I love your videos. You have a fun personality! I have a campervan also and do trips on the weekends all the time and want to be "nomatic" someday. I embrace minimalism and simplicity and can fit most of my possessions in my van. I definitely am going to AA meetings once things open back up.

Honestly quitting drinking was the hardest thing in my life and also the easiest, let me clarify. I drank every night and could not stop, went up to 300 pounds due to it. I struggle as real. I officially had a problem for about 2 years and only 2 nights to recollection that I didn't drink out of those 2 years. I prayed pretty heavily for around a year on the matter and one day I woke up and my addiction was completely gone. I can even drink to this day with no issues but I don't typically enjoy anymore. I am never really sure I should bring up my situation when the topic comes up because I dont know if it helps. There is 100% power in prayer but I have also flat out gotten no answers to many issues that have plagued me before and since so I understand the feeling of doom. Truly the worst phase of my life so I always decide to share that testimony because I understand how terrible it is and I know what it is to be completely defeated over and over.

Awesome video as always, Mr. Tim. I worked at a substance abuse clinic and this one super badass, strong-triceps, big-chest guest speaker came in one day. He told everyone to--for a few minutes--go against the entire program. Go against everything they had been hearing about drugs and alcohol. He wanted everyone to praise what drugs brought into their life. And he went on this long tangent about how drugs had brought him 1) communion (sharing, drinking with others); 2) escape 3) routine (visiting certain spots or stores at certain times, the old familiar sound of opening up a can, etc., etc.); and even 4) a nurturing warmth that felt like reconnecting with God, the world, or what have you. And then he talked about how it was very hard for him to quit doing drugs until he found adequate, better substitutes to fulfill those needs and wants that were otherwise fulfilled by doing drugs. So it's a very tricky subject and there's so much literature out there about it, and so many programs, and therapists and such. But despite that, it's always neat to hear someone's personal take on the subject. And it just happens to be that the cool travel guy happens to have a few words on it. That's really neat. Anyway, thank you for your awesome videos!

Tim, as always I appreciate your critical thing. You have it about right. The biggest thing that needs to be said is that falling off the wagon is not failure. It is a new starting point. Being depressed about that slip, failure can lead to more thought processes that can say what the hell I fail and have another drink. No! It is the start of a new process of learning to not drink. A new birth. A new dawn. What ever. Me, coming on 36 years next month. Sure I think about it but then say, "not right now!"

I feel ya, Tim...I have been smoking cigarettes (a pack a day) since 1989. I have tried to quit many times, but I have never been able to go longer than 3 months. It is very hard when your rational mind is telling you al of the physiological reasons that you have to quit, but there is that other part of your mind telling you "You just got out of bed in the morning...time for a cigarette." "You just ate a meal...time for a cigarette." You are stressed out...time for a cigarette." Smoking is a love/hate relationship. You hate what it's doing to your body, but you love the feeling you get...it satisfies your habitual nature...it's that security crutch that will always be there when you need it. I have tried almost everything to quit...cold turkey, Wellbutrin, Chantix...nothing seems to work. I don't know what else to do. Right now it's hopeless.

The best thing to do is keep junk food out of the house and drink lots of water. If you over eat good stuff it wont be as bad. 5he problem is junk is easily accessible and not very filling. You will stuff your face all day with dorittos but try stuffing your face with baked chicken and youll tap out lol

Great vids, a lot of knowledge. U used to drink everyday? In my case I've been drinking every week for like a year already. Sometimes even twice a week. I start drinking early and keep drinking until late night when I fall asleep sometimes without even noticing it bc of how drunk I was. I'm a cheap drinker I buy cheap beer but since it doesn't get me drunk enough I go out and get a bottle of cheap wine. And the next day is just miserable, I'm going to stay sober for a week.

There are many reasons for me unfortunately, one of the strongest alcohol puts me in sort of a protectrice bubble, an artificial paradise even if addiction as a whole is hell. It's also the only thing that works when I have maximum anxiety level, getting away from this drug is hard when you have other mental issues, I heard a psychologist say this is the main difference between those who quit and those who don't...

I think I just kinda aged out of drinking. Like it wasn't really a conscious decision, it just got to the point where it wasn't fun anymore and I got to the point where I really don't enjoy the sluggish feeling and dysphoria that cane after consuming alcohol in heavy amounts. Now I will have 1 or 2 drinks maybe onec every few months. But when I feel the buzz starting to kick in, it just gets worse from there so I just stop so I don't have to feel the awful hangover
