I spent the first 50 years of my life as a Protestant. It's all I knew. In those first 50 years, I never had a single Catholic share their faith or invite me to Mass. I could only think of two business contacts that I knew were Catholic. Although I didn't have an issue with Catholics as a group, I never considered the Catholic Church as an option prior to around turning 51. My wife and I became Catholic on 3.31.2018. I was 51. We still have "ZERO Catholics" that we know of on either side of our families. I was fortunate to have "never been anti-Catholic" nor be exposed to talks like Mike Winger's nor even recalling me personally ever saying much one way or the other about Catholics. The sad reality is that people listen to Pastors like Mike Winger, James White and others and take it as the Gospel Truth about Catholicism. I have been exposed to more anti-Catholicism and false teachings about Catholicism since January 2017 ( the journey truly began ) than in all my previous years combined. Thanks to Trent Horn, the team at Catholic Answers and others out there defending the Catholic faith ( try to do my part as well ), we can know the truth of Catholicism plus for those of us who LIVE OUR CATHOLIC FAITH we can appreciate being Catholic. I still have Jesus and the Bible which was my core as a protestant but now I have more in the FULLNESS OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH.

Welcome home! My husband will be brought into the fullness of the Catholic Church at Easter Vigil this year at age 58. He was Northern Baptist and nearly a deacon in his church when he left his church around 20 years ago. He has been shocked at horribly anti-Catholic so many Protestants have become. Thankfully, like you, he had not been exposed to the negativity of Catholicism perpetrated by many Protestants so didn’t really have a particular opinion one way or the other. He was, however, drawn to Catholic Churches in Europe... he liked the architecture and history, but found something else... a peace that fell over him any time he was in one. Many times he just sat there fo long periods, but didn’t know why until last year. After warring with himself and everything he had previously believed in his Protestant faith, he realized that he’d been mislead for all those years and knew he had to become Catholic! We are so blessed to be Catholic! If more Protestants were able to take off their blinders, many more would come home to the Catholic Church, too!

@@queenofhearts7726 That's a great story and thanks for sharing. I'm happy for you and your husband. Your husband is likely like me that now in our 50's we ask ...."why didn't we discover the Catholic Church 30 years ago?" But God has a plan that's beyond our comprehension. "If more Protestants were able to take off their blinders, many more would come home to the Catholic Church, too!" - I feel that way about my parents and my sister who love Christ but cannot see what I see in Catholicism. I can only pray for them, live my faith and try to be loving in my conversations. Oh what joy feels my soul to be a Catholic Christian and closer to Christ than ever before.

Catholic Transformation Also, though my children were raised Catholic, none of them practice the faith and one even went Pagan. 😭 I have been praying for them... sometimes that is all we can do. Some progress has been made... at least my youngest’s wife has tried to get him to go to church (Methodist) and I was able to have a good talk with them both about a month or so ago. At least my 3 grand babies have been baptized now, even if it was in the Methodist Church.... it will be accepted in the Catholic Church when they join (thinking positively here 😏). Keep the faith and keep praying for them, asking God to send someone into their lives to plant the seed for the Holy Spirit to make grow. Miracles do happen!

In the US alone, they were above 9000 prot. denominations in *2001.* Since then, it only became worst, and most parishes _(even belonging to major protestant denominations)_ are divided in teachings/doctrines sometime even regarding core beliefs... and this is all because of what their pastors personally believe. _(I count those as separate denominations, because different truths are taught.)_ You then include all offshoots of the reformations, such as the Mormons, JWs, scientologists, SDA, etc and end-up with an even greater number. _(yes, I do include them with the protestants, because we're talking about the fruits of schism here; and this is exactly what they are.)_ If you THEN add the vast amount of self-proclaimed non-denominational christians... you probably get the picture. _(That was in the US... Now, think worldwide)_

Verum and now Methodists are considering a split over same-sex marriage and gay clergy. How many little one-man “churches” are there? Don’t like what I preach? Go start a church of your own in your basement or just “church-hop” until you find one that agrees with everything you interpret from the Bible... yeah, that makes Jesus’ church “one church”. 🙄

I love these types of videos. I love being able to see both sides of the coin. I appreciate that you do it with such charity too. I was raised an atheist and studied Christianity from the ground up. No preconceived ideas. I went where the strongest evidence took me. I was baptized Catholic Easter 2012 after 8 years of studying all traditions. I can say, coming from no faith it allows me to see both sides, but it's clear that the Protestant view doesn't have the support of scripture or history when you look at the facts without a preconceived idea or having been taught anything before. I wanted just the facts. But let me tell you, it would have been so much easier to be a Protestant in America. I was so upset the day I realized the Catholic Church was the one true Church. I came Home kicking and screaming, by the Grace of God. :)

Same here I came to faith more recently and I keep watching both sides to get a full image of the teachings and the history Watching both sides gives me things to meditate on and make an educational conclusion. I have also heard debates between anthiest scientist and scientist that believe in God and use evidence. When I was young I had a poor view of doctrine from people that I remembered beacuase of which I left the faith thinking that people just made them up cause everyone I knew said that beloved and had faith and this reason was solely why the beloved the word. But then I heard historian say that there is evidence of Jesus living, being killed, testimonies of people that saw Jesus after death so to everyone here glad that you are going deep with faith and testing everything you know.

False snippet bible teachers like Mike Winger are bold in their ignorance but weak in their public defense. He will spout falsities about the Catholic Church in his videos and claim "I've done a lot of work on this," which means nothing since he gets mostly everything wrong. But he refuses to defend these in debate or even in a simple conversation format. Based on his supposed training, it's evident that he is largely unread and poorly trained in theology but he's on YT so people think he's legit.

RCC still… 1. …. crucifies JESUS again for the people during mass. 2. ….Believes Mary is the Queen of Heaven. 3. … elevates tradition over scripture. 4. …. venerates worship of images ascribing them attributes of GOD. 5. …. falsely teaches the sacraments (which are like an IV dripping grace; negating CHRISTs sacrifice). 6. …sadly teaches purgatory which is 100% false. 7. ….has rites tied to ancient paganism.

@@TruthHasSpoken wonderful question that I’m thrilled to answer. The very, very short response is: modern martyrs, particularly their families’ responses to their martyrdom. Several months after the murder of the 20 Coptic (and one African) men, may they rest in peace, I saw a video which included interviews with members of their families in Egypt. Their responses were the most Christian things I had ever seen. Their humility and gratefulness to God - and to ISIS - for allowing their men the honor of dying for Christ put my paltry faith in Christ to shame. Eventually I was driven to investigate the ancient roots of Christianity to find what they had that I didn’t. Apostolic succession and the Eucharist, that’s what. I had to have those, too!

When I'd continue in my bad habits/sins I'd wonder, "What if I didn't really mean it when I asked Jesus into my heart, and I'm not really saved? Why haven't I had a dramatic conversion experience? I've tried several times, how come I can't get this 'getting saved' thing right?" The continual call for conversion in Catholicism aligns much more realistically with my experience in life. There's a kind of dissonance in Protestant churches when they tell you you're saved no matter what, and then preach each week on the good works you should be doing.

I'm a Protestant, and now I love Trent Horn!! A lot of Mike's arguments do tend to fall apart when he is arguing against Catholicism. I have things I struggle with and have come to find that Prima Scriptura would be something better to defend. I think there is still an error in there as Scripture was ratified by councils anyway, and removing the Apocryphal has led to a lot of Protestant error when it comes to Revelation and the New Testament. When Protestants say something like the Pope is the abomination of desolation, I point to Maccabees and say no, Antiochus was! I don't think I have a problem with the Pope, or the Eucharist, or Baptism. I think where I struggle now is with Mariology as that does seem to develop later. I have Logos and Verbum and got Behold thy Mother which I am going through now. It may be shocking to hear, but Aquinas was a main feature in my 14-week theology course for biblical studies as a Protestant! The college I go to is ecumenical and Protestants and Catholics are going through it together, so I have been exposed to some things that I wouldn't have otherwise!

@@ajamusic7322 I can see more easily where the doctrine comes from. It still makes me uncomfortable though! I'm currently in a historical theology course in college. It has just started and it seems the book by Alister McGrath we are going through is highlighting how historical theology can help correct the philosophy of culture that crept into the church. It's becoming a deep dive into where the doctrines come from and the thought behind their creation. It's helping me realize that I am ok not crossing the Tiber, although, seeing Scott Hahn's passion, I almost want to convert every time I listen to him!! I no longer think there is that much of a Divide between Protestantism and Catholicism. I do think there would be a lot less Christian heresy running rampant today if there never was a split. I am definitely coming to respect and view Catholics as brothers and sisters with a distinct view of Christianity that makes perfect sense when examining church history. As a Protestant, I can recite Creeds right along with them, and have many of my beloved doctrines, thanks to the painstaking work of Catholic theologians! So to answer your question, there is a love there that used to be fear and a desire to convert, and that has come from opening up to the possibility that I might be wrong and studying history. I don't think I could become Catholic, but I no longer see the need to put up a dividing wall or challenge people for thinking that is the truest expression of Christianity. I think in eternity, we are going to be shocked by who is there and find out that our theological difference might have been the enemy playing on the human psyche the whole time to keep us separated as united we could do so much more together! The Pharisees and Sadducees still worked together despite having drastically different views on the afterlife. I think the broad division of Jewish thought within the 1st century is something we should pay attention to and learn from. The only people Jesus constantly lambasts with condemnation was the religious rulers who neglected that the law was to teach them to love God and love their neighbors. That love is supposed to draw people into the church, and I see that missing when we fight tooth and nail over secondary issues. Everything I love about Protestantism comes from the Catholic church though, so I cannot ignore that aspect of it! Nor should I fight people who want to turn to it!

@@ajamusic7322 I will have to get back to you with which ones still are bothering me by the end of this course. It is only week one, and I am being challenged more than I have been listening to Catholic apologists!! We are going through McGrath, A. E. (2013). Historical theology: An introduction to the history of Christian thought (2nd ed.). Wiley-Blackwell. ISBN-13: 9780470672860 Alister McGrath points out where Greek thought has come in and I think that is an area where it'll keep me Protestant. But I admit, it is a poor argument, as of course, culture influences thought and teaching. Mariology is one area I struggle with as mentioned above. I know there are great Catholic arguments for it using theological reasoning but have a problem with it as it is not explicitly stated, and seems to come much later. I do not really think the Pope bothers me too much anymore as there is some great stuff on following apostolic succession and that doctrine came out as a result of Gnostic heresy. Honestly, if more Protestants were exposed more fully to church history, they would drop a lot of their arguments and say, oh, that's where that comes from?! That makes sense now! The Eucharist used to be one that bothered me, but the arguments from Scripture that people were eating it, and causing sickness and death to come because they were not eating it with the proper hearts, minds, and in the proper way, have fully convinced me more is going on there. To answer your question, I think most of us are fighting a straw man as the Catholic church has gone through many reforms since Luther, which we generally don't know about from our side. This is where I've come to love Matt Fradd, Trent Horn, and Scott Hahn as I have a much better understanding of where the church stands today! Sacraments I am still a little divided on. Whether there's 2, 3, or the full 7, and I'm not sure how that would affect salvation. The textbook brings a lot to light and those walls are tumbling one at a time though.

@@adamcraig5232 If Prima Scriptura is the proper way to be a Christian, why did Jesus spend all his time forming a Sacramental Church, giving it authority, and saying those that rejected the leadership of the Church (not books) were rejecting him? Seems to me, if he just wanted people to read and figure things out for themselves, he would have just written books. If the Early Church understood their role to only be write some history, a few letters, and then stop, why did the Church keep on writing? If they didn't understand that was what Jesus intended, were there ever any real Christians before you arrived? If they go could astray the moment the books of the Bible were finished, why trust they didn't stray before that? You may feel uncomfortable with how the Church is ordered. You may feel more confident about contradicting younger teachings. But Jesus never put an expiry date on his Church. He also never invited you to judge and pick and choose from it. How strange it would be for him to elect men who would elect men that he wanted you to ignore.

All due respect to Mr. Winger, but this video series was a major one in confirming my trust in the Catholic church. Pastor Mike is an expert at leaving out inconvenient information that undermines his arguments. He never mentions the history of the role of the church in selecting the canon of scripture. Understandable, because then he would have to acknowledge that the church produced Holy Writ not the other way around. It's amazing that he cited St. Cyprian as a source who opposed the authority of the Bishop of Rome. This is nuts...St. Cyprian wrote the OPPOSITE thing !! And later in the video Pastor Mike cites Eusebius and conveniently "forgets" to mention how Eusebius wrote about Peter's successors in Rome. He's basically dismissing all the information in his own sources that contradicts his arguments. Listening to him makes me feel like I took a time machine to Germany in 1517 when the Reformation started !!

It really ironic for protestant pastors to maintain that they preach to the people the entire gospel of Christ when in reality they just pick out a few Bible verse in the letter of Paul to the Romans in explaining their doctrine of justification while totally ignoring a whole lot of other Bible verses which warns Christians of the real possibility of losing their salvation.

If Pastor Mike insists that one simply has to have faith and is saved by grace, then what does it matter if he thinks Catholics believe different or unniblical things? If Catholics believe in Jesus, who cares if Catholics claim papal authority or teach that works enhance grace: by his own logic they will not lose the grace of salvation. So again... what is his issue? Is it merely along the lines of just saying Catholics don't REALLY believe in Jesus?
@sivad1025

Mike actually has a good point on this. He does not believe in eternal security. He essentially believes that mortal sin can lead someone to apostasy or is evidence of apostasy and that you're saved by true faith. His criticism of Catholicism is that many Catholics partake in sinful activity and use the indulgences and sacraments as works to earn back salvation. Catholics who fall into that category are at risk of not having sincere faith in Jesus' sufficient sacrifice. You see a lot of ex-Catholic protestants who will describe themselves in that category which is an arguable failing of the Catholic church. Even Trent concedes that this is one area where protestants have strengthened Catholicism through criticism

Therefore, understanding where the Gospel message originated from (OT) will guide how we ought to understand the NT. Talk Catholic I would love to see that! Ray Comfort strikes me as someone who means well but targets the low-hanging fruit, aka people who are very misinformed or uninformed about their faith. Not just Catholics, either. I wonder if he ever came across a really knowledgeable Catholic and didn’t post the video because it wouldn’t be good for his channel. We’ll never know I guess.

How very kind of Mike to express his pleasure that Catholics are being encouraged to read and study the Bible. I am 76 years old and ever since I started school I have been encouraged to read and study the Bible. In her liturgy, the Catholic Church covers in a four year cycle, almost the whole of the Bible and it is expounded upon in the homily. I doubt your congregation is exposed to the same amount of Scripture. Furthermore Mike, if it wasn't for the Catholic and Eastern Churches you wouldn't have the Bible. It was copied and passed on to succeeding generations by the ancient churches and the monks and nuns who painstakingly copied manuscripts by hand before the invention of the printing press. The early Christians didn't have bibles and the same was true of most people for hundreds of years but they were taught the Gospel by word of mouth, stained glass windows and dramatic enactments in such things as Mystery and Passion plays. So Mike ask yourself these questions and think them through very carefully and please don't be so patronising in future. 1.If Christianity is a 'book religion', how did it flourish during the first 1500 years of church history when the vast majority of people were illiterate and far too poor to purchase a hand copied bible? 2.If Jesus intended for Christianity to be exclusively a 'religion of the book', why did he wait 1400 years before showing somebody how to build a printing press? 3.If the early Church believed in sola scriptura, why do the creeds of the early Church always say "we believe in the Holy Catholic Church" and not "we believe in the Bible alone"? 4. How could the Apostle Thomas establish the Church in India that survives to this day (and is in communion with the Catholic Church) without leaving them with one word of the New Testament Scriptures?

If there was a % on how far along I am to becoming a Catholic I'd say I'm at 85%-90% the way there. I was raised Protestant in a Pentecostal church, but we ended up leaving around 7 -8 years ago when I was around 14-15. I've probably been to around 7-8 different protestant churches in that time and the one thing that keeps gnawing away at me is that every single one of them has completely different doctrine, multiple about the same verses. that was the first big thing because I know that there can't be 8 different meanings to the same verses, that doesn't make any sense. then I turned to the Catholic church because I knew they had been there from the beginning, looking at the early church fathers and didn't see any of the protestant theology I had been raised in until the Reformation, along with the canon of scripture having the Apocrypha until Luther and Calvin came along. it seriously does make me wonder if what I had been taught since birth was true. plus I'm Irish, so Catholicism would fit right in with me lol

I think it's because we, protestants believe that the ultimate fact to believe is that Jesus died and resurrected for saving us from our sins. It's the only thing that is needed to be believed we believe. Of course, we have the privilege to read Jesus' words and learn from him, and sanctify as we go. How have you been doing?

Hopefully you are still exploring the Catholic beliefs. My spouse went through RCIA twice before converting. Now they are a wonderful Catholic but conversion takes time. It's not all about the intellect, it's about the heart. On the intellect side, I think its fitting to explore the Catholic teaching on the Eucharist - the Real Presence of Christ - to give us Grace. If Catholic's are right here, everything else will fall into place. I posted today asking Mike Winger the following questions. I re-post as I see it is fitting to do so. These are all good questions to explore and answer. Read the Catechism and a great video (and book) to watch is Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist by Dr. Brant Pitre. He speaks to the Old Testament types of the New Testament fulfillment. One doesn't get taught this at Calvary Chapel (Mike Winger school). kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmWYc3t6h6Zqprcsi=QuYeIKbCVcEKVH0v [Mike Winger] "Test all things. This is not a biblical view." Great Mike. - What does Jesus say below, the Written Word of God? - Which of Jesus words show he is speaking symbolically only? - Who took him as speaking symbolically only in the bread of life discourse? List who. - Who in the same passage took him as speaking literally? List who .. and include the 1st paragraph of Chapter 7. - Who in Church history, for the first 1000+ years, took either of these passages as Jesus speaking symbolically only? - Who in Church history, for the first 1000+ years, took either of these passages as Jesus speaking literally? (quite a long list) Who has the biblical view, you or the Catholic Church (Orthodox too)? - How do you test whether your fallible interpretation is correct?? _And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”_ (Lk 22: 19) _41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” 43 Jesus answered them, “Do not murmur among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Every one who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. 46 Not that any one has seen the Father except him who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread[c] which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.”_ _52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”[d] 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me._ (Jn 6)

The Roman Catholic Church is the biblical church. Before I came to the church I did search the scriptures to test certain doctrines and traditions. And I discovered how biblical the church actually is. How true and realistic. How sound the Traditions actually are. The only Church with the authority to teach and preach in the name of the Lord Jesus. If we don't have faith in apostalic Succession, wich is biblical and can't be denied, we have no faith. We donnot believe that Holy Spirit has been with us to the end. Only faith in ourselves. A form of pride and a stumbling block to this age.

They're not worth it. 1. They are not pastoral and tell people to stay away from the Sacraments since just about everyone, in their opinion, is a heretic. 2. They fail the simple "does it bear good fruit?" test. Are there issues with the Church and Vatican 2? yes. But have people grown holier even in that Church? of course. So while they might point to problems, they are severely lacking in solutions, which is why they say we are in the end times as prophesied in Revelation. The Diamond brothers are really a cult.

You here the myth that the Catholic Church has only recently encouraged Catholics to read the Bible. Many, even Catholics tell us that the Bible was forbidden or discouraged prior to Vatican II. I'll pull off my shelf four or five Catholic Translations in English and some in Spanish, French and Italian I have which have printed in the front Indulgences granted by Pope Leo XIII for Catholics who faithfully and prayerfully read the Scriptures at least 15 minutes a day. They also have prayers to the Holy Ghost before and after reading the Scriptures asking for inspiration to understand the Holy Writ. In the Vernacular translations prior to Pope Leo XIII there are also prayers and encouragements for Catholics to read the Scriptures.
