True story Dale and Jr (and team) finished 4th in a C5.R in the 24 hours of Daytona and the #2 C5.R won the overall. I have really been debating getting the #3 Corvette Racing livery done up since I bought a yellow C5, but I also want to say somehow me buying the C5 early, 2 months before officially turning 35, made my 21 year old brother buy one less than a week later lol. It's contagious when you buy one. Also bonus fun fact there was 3 prototypes in the late 70's of putting a factory twin turbo in one, and they actually downed it to a V6 that still made more power than the L84 350. If I remember correctly that development ended as they said they had to stick to v8, and I believe that prototype engine influenced the Buick Grand National.

And Corvette even has programs that let you actually build the engine for you car and also one that lets you walk alongside your car when it's being assembled, what other car lets you do that. Despite squeeks, rattling, and poor plastic interior pieces, I enjoy the seating position and it's surprisingly comfortable on long drives. Despite being a push-rod 350 with only "330" HP the noise it makes and the acceleration is fantastic! My Vette is completely original and unmodified. I just replace wear and tear items and do maintenance. It really is just gas her up and drive. I pay only a ¼ of the insurance compared to my Grand Caravan. Late C4 Corvettes are the best $ / performance at the moment. I believe very soon used prices are going to inflate and hopefully the C5 will become the new bargain.

The thing about the looks of the corvette is (even though I think it is the best looking car overall throughout it's generations) there are a few that aren't as universally liked. A lot of people don't like the looks of the C4. I do, but I don't like the C5. Regardless, even with the C5 it has a certain presence about it's design with the unmistakable corvette long hood and wide body that just demand respect. I am 21 and saving up for (hopefully) a C6, if not then a C4.
@RetroCarsForever4 жыл бұрын
Styling is incredibly subjective. I agree that the C5 isnt as attractive to my eye as the C4 or C6, C5 looks a little doughy and big by comparison. But I still think they're good looking cars and wouldn't mind owning one of them next!

I am looking forward to buying a corvette c4 of the earlier years with the 4+3. Why? -Innovation -80s Technology -80s Razorblade Styling -Actually beating most of the more expensive cars that are even here in Germany more expensive today compared to a C4. Drivable, complete, nice C4 Vettes with an Automatic before the Facelift start around 13.000-15.000€ (That's 16.000 US Dollars) 4+3 Vettes are so rare that I can barely make an estimate. But later 6spd Vettes are around 18.000-25.000€ depending on mileage and stuff... I will definetely look on import prices...

Thanks to Corvette team, who felt threatened by Fiero, whined to have GM kill Fiero. The Fiero actually kicked Corvette's ass on the track with V8 installed in mid 80's. If you look at '88 Fiero's suspension system, it's pretty advanced for the time. It took Corvette until C8 to catch up with Fiero's suspension system. Jeez! Fiero development began a bit past the halfway point of C3 production... So, in all fairness, that is the 'Vette generation that one would think Fiero might come closest to, fundamentally. But no. Fiero is/was fundamentally light years ahead of the C3 when one examines the frame, or the basic platform of each car. The C3 frame looks like it could have come from a puck up truck aside from the independent rear suspension. In fact... from what I could see, Chevy never got even close to the same level of fundamental chassis design that the Fiero spaceframe started out with up to and including the C7. I think everyone has seen spyshots of the C8 spaceframe and have marvelled at the similarity in basic design to the Fiero Spaceframe. So... all in all... Obviously the Corvette has always been more than capable of outperforming Fiero since day one nearly forty years ago simply by virtue of much greater HP, and all else that can come with that, not to mention bigger brakes, etc, etc, etc. Fair enough... Give the Chevy folks their due both then and now; Corvette is and has been a Hell of a car! But.... Chevy had every reason to be scared to death of Fiero back in the day and here is why: Many of us... a bunch of rank amateurs... have taken the basic platform of many a Fiero and damned near turned it into a supercar with nothing more than simple bolt-on mods and upgrades. Heck... almost everything we do and use comes right out of GM's very own parts bins. Now.... If a bunch of amatures and several clever entrepreneurs over the years can pull this off, just think what a corporation full of seasoned engineers could have done with it over the course of a decade or two! And, just based on what I observed at the Corvette museum, I believe the Fiero spaceframe had at LEAST a three or four generation lifespan to it, not counting any special HP model upgrades or even a switch to aluminum! Yeah.... Chevy had every reason to fear what an F2 Fiero and beyond would have meant to Corvette regarding sales competition.... What I saw at their own museum last week just screamed that loud and clear!

When I was originally looking to replace my aging IROC-Z28, I wasn't brand loyal. I looked at the MX-5, Boxster S, Cayman, GT-R and S2000. I was also considering an off warranty Ferrari, Lamb, Maser....The bottom line: I wanted Ferrari/Lambo/Porsche performance levels at a price I could afford. The Corvette was the only answer. After 3 years of research, I ordered a new 2013 Z06. After 9 years and 100K miles of ownership, would I get another? And emphatic YES!! In fact, I'm now eyeing the upcoming Z06 Quattrovalevole....to use a 308 term...But, can I actually sell my C6Z? Dunno...I'm still in love with it...It's THAT good!!

I've personally always loved the C5 and C6s as well (wont be surprised if I buy one of those at some point in the future). C7s and C8s have a LOT more depreciation to go, so the C5 and C6s are great values if you want a great deal on a Corvette that's a lot easier to live with than the C4 (if, perhaps, lacking in the C4's vintage charms).
