The guitarist, Toru, is not your typical rock guitarist with crazy solos. But he is very particular in what kind of sounds he wants to produce for each song. I love his clean guitar sounds. Even when in their more hardrock songs, the guitars never come off as overwhelming. And when he decides to do a solo, you can feel the emotions. If you want a more hard up tempo songs, please check out "The Beginning" and "Mighty Long Fall" live from the 2015 Mighty Long Fall Tour at Yokohama Stadium. For their newest stuff, they've put out two official MV from their 2022 Luxury Disease album: "Save Yourself" and "Let Me Let You Go". There's another MV for a song that's used for the new Sonic Frontier game, "Vandalize".

You talked about this song being powerful for young and impressionable people; this song was actually written for 18 year olds in Japan. It was written to uplift a generation that feels like it's been left behind. It cool to see how you connect those things to other bands.

Re: making comparisons, I think there’s two different types of comparing bands - those people (common among reactors) who would say “oh they’re the thirty seconds to mars of Japan!” This was common when reacting to BTS first became a trend, it as always “oh they’re the One Direction of Korea!” That strips the band of their own identity and reduces them to essentially a copy from another country. On the other hands there’s comparisons like yours that really dive into the musical/aesthetic/stylistic similarities, what it says about music overall, etc. That sort of thing is massively appreciated by music fans!! It ‘s so fascinating to draw those kinds of connections and dive into the background.
@PrymalChaos

Thanks Kenzie! I actually am reluctant to compare bands, however sometimes it's an easy starting point. I will then usually point out what makes them different or unique. It stems from when my band used to play a lot of shows, we have a female singer and we played poppy metal stuff, so naturally we would get compared to Evanescence a lot. To my mind we never sounded anything like Evanescence, but it's an easy comparison, based on the broad strokes of our sound and aesthetic. It bothered me a little bit, but I realised it was mostly people who had little experience with our genre and only had Evanescence as a reference point. So I realised it's not a bad place to start, really. Every band is usually pretty unique when you get past the broad strokes description, that's what I try to look for. Thanks for the great comment!

I will assume you are attending the luxury disease tour. You should definitely check out Renegades and save yourself. Also they always perform wasted nights and stand out fit in. I like all of their music. And, the variety is wide. From screamo to soft rock ballads and everything in between. Enjoy the concert, they are phenomenal live. I just saw them in October and I'm planning to see them again opening for muse next year. ❤

OOR concerts are the only concerts that get me in tears. Everything is so perfectly executed! Their music has consistently, since their very beginning, taken me out of my existence. I recommend checking out their earlier music like Et Cetera (they used to have 5 members), Clock Strikes, Mighty Long Fall. It's really interesting to see how far they've come to the place they are now. It's been a wild ride as their fan and I can't wait to see what all they do in the future. They're so talented!!

Gotta love those PRS guitars and their clean sounds. Beautiful works of art every single guitar is. Also Taka(singer) was sick for this show and still gave a great vocal performance! Edit: this song came off their Ambitions album. When it came out a lot of fans(especially long time fans) weren’t pleased with it because it was “too pop”. Personally I loved the album when it came out and We Are is my favorite song of theirs.

Thank you for reacting to them. They have been around since 2005 and did world tours a few times, but somehow not enough people have heard of them. A shame, really. They always put out positivity on and off-stage, which I think is much needed these days. A little bit info on the vocalist, Taka. His parents are famous composer and singer of a traditional Japanese music genre. Taka himself once said he listens to a lot of country music. I think these factors contribute a lot to how his singing can convey so much emotions naturally. This band is famous for their live performances, because a lot of times the live versions are different and better than the studio recordings. So for future reactions, their live videos, like this one, are a must!

They were the first jrock band I listen to besides anime music. Thier music just takes me places. I really hope to see them. Like the emotional level...and it's sad that alot of the songs now a days just suck and there is no message. That's why I love them so much. I love Japanese music in general. If I can make a recommendation, check out their live performance of “Take what you want” they did on the ambitions Japan dome tour in 2018, raw emotional power, you want to see insanity that’s it, the crowd involvement with these guys is nuts and they managed to stay dead silent for like 30 seconds (no pun intended) straight. I got to see them live back in October and it’s a truly amazing show. Also for the live performance I mentioned Taka was sick but that wasn’t all him being under the weather it was very powerful. I have heard mention the silence was because they they were going to be touring with linkin park, and before they could we all know what happened to Chester, so the moment of silence was built in to pay respect to him.

One Ok Rock's catalog is so varied that they really do have something for everyone. I was initially attracted to some of their harder hitting earlier stuff like The Beginning, Liar, and Mighty Long Fall, but have grown to appreciate almost everything they have released. I hadn't made the connection to Thirty Seconds to Mars, but in retrospect I can see the point you were trying to make. I find that a lot of J-Rock does have a positive uplifting vibe to it. This is certainly the case with bands like Band-Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila, Scandal, etc.

I never heard of 30 to mars before, but seems like they are a typical poistive band. But, they're too hype on the stage and lack of crowds control. I love the frontman who can control the crowds like whatever they want, and for me, that's the coolest things to do. Also, the big difference about American audience and Japanese audience is on their understanding and politeness. In Japan, you can even feel alone in the concert because sometimes the band keep silence and everyone start silence too. It's so quiet you can even hear your heartbeat.

Over the last few years i have been listening to one ok rock and all those years they have helped me through tough times when i thought i was not enough and that i have to be a certain way because sadly these days people my age feel we need to impress and change ourselves for others but listening to these i feel strong and even though they dont know who i am ...i also feel loved because they speak for the younger generation like myself that feel they have no voice and its kinda like a family in a way i guess haha. i am so happy that you reacted to them so thank you! ♥

First of all, thank you so much for your reaction. For OOR next recommendation I think you should check I was King (orchestra ver), Re:Make and Heartache. those are 3 different types of songs. If you are getting interested in OOR and have plans to check out other Japanese rock bands, I recommend 'MY FIRST STORY'. I recommend them not because of the fact that their vocalist Hiro is the youngest brother of OOR vocalist Taka, but because their band deserves to be more appreciated. Maybe for some people MFS style will be more 'dark and heavy' than OOR, especially the songs at the beginning of their career but they also have songs that are more 'friendly'.

I can see what you mean about One Ok Rock performing in such a way like 30 secs to Mars or the other bands like U2. BUT I have to push back and say that one ok rock is just so more...better at it. Like it is emotionally and spiritually uplifting because of some sort of desire message that you can feel coming from their hearts. Those other bands do it fine it One Ok Rock has that special thing that even people who don't understand d their language will stop and listen and feel what they're saying even tho they don't know.
