What I've read is that the skinny ones may be castaways from the tribe, and they are starving. Hence the aggression towards other cannibals. They also eat corpses even when there's a fight going on (since they are starving). And that may be why they are so friggin skinny. I made some discoveries with this. I havent seen all your videos so I don't know if you have already explored this. But if you make yourself invisible, they will sense you if you get close but not see you. If you land amongst them, they will try to attack you but often miss, or even just start swinging randomly at the air trying to fight the invisible enemy. Often this makes them hit eachother, and sets off a big brawl. If they stop, just go amongst them again. I also noticed that after a minute or two of sensing you and you not doing anything, they go back to acting like they do when you aren't around

I had one recently where the normal cannibals, painted cannibals and masked cannibals were all in the main village and I stayed in a hut and tried to see what I could do. I blocked all attacks and they started hitting each other, they eventually gave up on me and started a brawl. I left shortly after because there was 10-12 cannibals and then cowman, virginia, and armsy showed up.

Update that I hope forest will do in future. - More new tribe with different weapon or ability - The mutant should be like a demi God they worship or some sort, so everytime they come in pack, different tribe accompany with different mutant - Patrol route or pack will have a significant leader, like if we keep killing the normal one the leader will keep calling for reinforcement, if we kill the leader instead the remaining will scared and keep distance and will go into fight or flee status - Enable emotion in multiple - More wild life especially predator to balance the food chain - As mentioned if add more different tribe, add more story item maybe like the lore why there is different form of tribe

I'm a little late to the party here, but just a few days ago I started a new game with mods, specifically a mod that adds a leveling system and on day 6 I was roaming around the southern beach close to the yacht when all the sudden I got notifications from that mod that I was on a killing spree. I looked around for a bit and found 10-12 dead cannibals on the peninsula where the gun part and the big tree is. Luckily I had a house boat with bone baskets close by, so I hauled all the bodies and burnt them all, free massive pile of bones for me! 😂

I'm *always* attacked by the Ferals/Starved. If they see me, they are nearly relentless. The Grays and Painted will sometimes attack, but most of the time they'd rather we went out separate ways. The Normal/naked tan ones would rather watch me unless I am hunting and gathering in their territory. Females scream at me every time they see me, but the usually wait for male backup to launch at me. Mutants, well, we know they'd rather kill you, but they must have poor eyesight and poor memory because it is easy to get away or walkaround.

Interestingly I've had two games where I came across two dead cannibals after having run into others, the first seemed to be between a leader and regular cannibal and I was on a raft when I saw the leader walking away from the body. The second time was just earlier when I saw a body fall right when a patrol went by.

Fun fact: They can't get on docks. My camp is set up by the yacht and I realized this is the easiest way to avoid damage and collect a lot of bones with the bow and arrow. They can damage the dock, but they usually only have interest in hitting you.

It is true that the developers have done an awesome job on the AI, one of the best of all games I've ever played, the AI is as good or even better than the AI in Red Dead Redemption 2. It's scary how smart the AI is in this game. I noticed how the cannibals are mostly just taunting when they are alone or in smaller groups and will only attack if you landed a hit on them and once their reinforcement come they will be aggressive and start attacking non stop. There is also one scenario, where I was battling a lone cannibal, it was very agressive, my friend come to my aid and the cannibal was wounded pretty badly. Instead of keep attacking us and dying in vain it opted to run away. Very amazing this game. I am very impressed.

I'm pretty sure that your suggestion is right. They're definitely mutants, if you look on skin colour (blue, gray?), the lack of primary sexual organs and the height.. Its pretty clear to me. Imagining that they were bred at Sahara, I think its "normal" that they start beating each other or be the way they are.. Fighting others who don't belong to your group is natural. They are unknown and therefore a threat. Probably a mutation led to the aggression and the need/hunger for human meat. (you never see them hunting animals, there is no proof that they eat anything else than humanoid flesh.) Without culture and rules/laws I guess many people would be like them :D And some are.. I observe kids behaviour and they tend to start hitting each other kinda fast if something isn't going their way. Last week some kid in an elementary school choked another one almost to death. I had to intervene.

*[REITERATES SPOILER WARNING}* They are definitely mutants but I never could place them as "Sahara runaways" of some kind, whether children grown to adulthood, or already adults at the time of the experiments, or likely a mix of the two. It was one of my early thoughts, but the fact that they keep coming at increasing number as more are killed made me think there must be some thriving - at least in regards to reproductive rate - society going on somewhere out of sight [rendering range]. Of course is a game so if it can spawn it will spawn, but if we would have to account for their numbers I think there needed to be a substantial existing population already present when Sahara arrived. Sure Sahara was there to experiment and mutants were likely part of it, maybe some are _escapees_, but I think they were there earlier. There's all that other stuff from before Sahara, too. Might be that they were tribal before and the mutagen made it worst. Or maybe they were already contaminated with it. Isn't it liked to the artifacts after all?

That is exactly the picture I get, especially when I see this video of them going at it. The way they giggle. They are almost like feral children who have grown up too fast in body, but their mentality has stayed the same. Unbridled. Savage. I do notice there are two main schools of thought when it comes to the cannibals. Some believe they and the mutants have long been here and underground. Something like out of The Descent. Others believe that they are the product of experimentation. I can see both sides supported. I wish we knew a little more about the ancient people that brought about the artifacts. Sigh, maybe in the sequel.

I did not look into the whole lore (like what each picture might mean etc) but if I had to spitball here I would say the artefacts and the mutagen are linked. The mutagen has been leaking out and contaminating the natives since time immemorial. Baby mutants are those children too deformed to grow into adulthood, that survived the spartan practice of cannibal society of throwing unwholesome babies off the cliff (or in the cave in our case). Then Sahara arrived and started messing up some more, ending up with Virgina, Armsy and whatever that massive blob filling one of the observation rooms is... (I cannot account for the old-looking pictures of large mutants that seems to have been taken before the high tech Sahara came, tho) So half The Descent (great movie btw) and half experiment.
