Some people seem to be blessed. They are always at the right place and the right time. Things comes easy to them. Even when they make bad decisions, things work out well for them. Smarts, dedication, persistence, motivation... none of these really play a roll in their success. Some of them have no clue what they are doing, and yet good fortune follows them. Another way of saying kind of the same thing: "God takes care of drunks and fools, and Charlie Harper is both" -Berta (Two and Half Men) On the other hand, some people have what feels like a curse. They are always at the wrong place and/or the wrong time. No matter what decision they make, it's the wrong one. Smarts, dedication, persistence, motivation... none of these help them succeed. They just fail over and over again. A step forward is usually followed by 2 steps backwards. I've been "blessed" and "cursed" multiple times. I can't identify (even after reflecting on the matter for a long time) what was different (or I did differently) when I succeeded or when I failed. There is more to success and failure than meets the eye.

After completing high school in the mid 70's, I went from one post-secondary program to another and couldn't seem to make things work to get myself successfully established in any career; I was hounded by failure! It was 14 years after high school before I finally found the job(not a career) that I would stay with for 27 yr. This set me back in my financial life. It at least helps that in the past few decades I have managed to have some small successes along the way that helped repair my badly battered self-esteem.

Heck it. Completely. I struggle daily with the sad and frustrating fact that I have no distinguished talent or skill. Can't even play video games. Or have a useless talent like spinning a pen. Can't create anything new. The only thing I can do is to trace a picture, poorly. Failed chemistry downright back in the day. Zero degree of quantitative talent or skill. Did Arts back in uni and got a passing grade. I'd probably end up homeless without my family. Yet I am not stupid or even downright disabled enough to just claim disability. Don't even have enough stamina to clean for a living , except cleaning after myself and the people around . I can't even dress or act "sexy". The only thing I can do is probably not to spend my last dollar without being a penny pincher. Yet, somehow I managed to marry a chemistry whiz who got full scholarship to ivy league university (MIT) with a dual career as emergency doctor who has a selfless and generous personality and loves me for who I am. The moral of the story is if there is silver lining for a nobody like me, people don't give up hope, if you can't find talent , you can still find love who is much more talented than yourself.

I constantly put myself down. I feel like a failure because I don't feel like I'm where I am supposed to be, success -wise, in my life. I feel like I'm just a couple of steps from being a homeless bum. I keep telling myself that I have to change my mental outlook, and fill my mind with positive thoughts. I am constantly job hopping. I had to quit my job of a few weeks 3 days ago. I am going from one $#1tty job to the next. I realize that why this keeps happening is my heart is not at all in having a job period so the subconscious denies this as a job is not for me. However, I desperately need the money but I'd rather get paid doing what I am passionate about. These past few days have been phenomenal even though I haven't gotten any videos done yet, I know what I must do now. Keep doing what I'm doing and much more what I have been doing.

My problem (And I am fully aware of it) is even after I am committed to things I want to do, I get distracted very easily. I can't focus on something more than 30 minutes straight. 30 minutes of focus is a miracle to me. No matter how much I try by removing all distractions, changing my room lighting, quitting social media, quitting video games ... etc, I still get distracted inside my head. I keep imagining things like stories inside my head to distract myself from what matters (which I know for sure it's so important) and I try so hard to push through inside my mind, yet every time I get distracted. I found out the 10 minutes rule on the internet (which has worked for me so far). This rule is all about doing some important task for at least 10 min/day. the problem with this rule is the slow progress I make. I feel like a turtle. And my biggest disappointment is having a fish memory. everything I learn I keep forgetting after a while. Please, if someone has experienced the same problems I have and solved them , reply to this comment with your solution.

You really helped me to answer my 3 years old question . Thanks for helping me.
@sherlockharding31779 жыл бұрын
Hi Byron, I have been searching for this answer and I came across this video of yours. It makes perfect sense. To give you a brief detail about my situation I am a professional who is in the finance field. I have initially worked in an organization which was pretty relaxed and moved onto working in organizations with extremely high time pressures. Therefore adjusting has become extremely hard! Therefore I am not being able to hold onto jobs. I realize that I have repeated some mistakes consistently like: 1) Asking too many questions and asking frequently throughout the day. 2) Asking questions which at my level are considered to be very basic. 3) Taking longer than others to complete the tasks at hand. 4) Not able to perform without sufficient extra support and systems training to start off with for a month or 2. Every organization wants its employees to hit the ground running. The solutions to the above problems are simple: 1) Collate and ask questions at regular intervals. 2) To step back and reflect on the problem at hand with common sense. 3) To plan more effectively. 4) To do some preparation in advance and get some help outside work. The problem with implementing the solutions outlined above are as follows: 1) I want to get things right and if I don't I get really screwed over for it. If i do not ask questions regularly then I cannot move on with the subsequent tasks. 2) Secondly I have severe time pressures so I do not have enough time to reflect on each problem properly to be able to solve it on my own accord within that time frame. 3) No amount of planning helps me do work faster. 4) There is no-one outside who can actually help me, I have been out there and got advice and coaching from various people just to fail more miserably. The whole issue is that I am a bit slower compared to others in being able to absorb things. The question is in this instance my personal aptitude is also a critical factor in being able to be successful in addition to the wrong processes. In short I am unable to adapt in these high pressured environments. I have considered going back to the previous workplace but that place would not take me and there are no similar organizations which are low time pressured in the finance field. I have also considered career change but don't have any other skills apart from analyzing numbers. The main question now is What do I do to improve my potential i.e. the natural talent to adapt? Please advice me on this if you have the spare time. Once again Thanks a lot for this video!
@ByronDavisEpiclife8 жыл бұрын
+Sherlock Harding I completely get your frustration. Thank you for your thorough outline. To address this more effectively, would you be willing to jump on Skype? We can talk it out and if you allow when can repost the video. i truly feel this challenge is felt by a lot of people. You are NOT alone! Are you open to an open coaching session? No up sell... nothing! I just want to do your thoughtful question justice. You in? My Skype: @coachbyron
@sherlockharding31778 жыл бұрын
+Byron Davis Hi Byron, Yes I maybe up for a Skype session over the weekend but would like to do it with a mask on my face. I cannot reveal who I truly am. I have been let go off from 2 jobs in the past 4 months. Once again I have gotten a job in one of the biggest organizations in the world but am struggling already! Can't have them or anyone else see my face. I don't care actually but will definitely lose my job if they know who I am and my family too will suffer! I hope you understand. I have asked every possible person in the world but my situation is that of a person with AIDS i.e. nobody knows the cause and nor the cure for this problem. Everyone is in shock and confused. It would be great to get the coaching session with that also helping others. I believe that the channel always gets blessed with what flows through it. If even one person gets help with our session I will be extremely happy as I don't wont my worst enemy to go through what I have been going through. I will let you know the time soon if you are okay with me doing the session with a mask on.

Ebony B, the best way to benefit from failure is to examine it before you try again. Failure is normal and necessary because if growth is the objective then failure gives us instant feedback on what is currently preventing growth at the moment. The key is to not make failure personal. Instead, see it for what it is: valuable feedback. It has very little to do with who we are as a person. It has everything to do with our approach to doing something. let me encourage you to never stop trying just pay more attention to the instant feedback failure gives you so you can try a little bit smarter the next time. This is the art of failing our way to success. Ebony B, you are God's masterpiece. God didn't make a mistake when he made you. Please don't forget that.
