Merry Christmas everyone!
I sat down with Roman Skaskiw to talk about American libertarians who promote russian talking points.
But instead of explaining why they're wrong, we explored why do they exist. What prompts someone with a proven trackrecord in defending liberty and civilization to suddenly defend rushism? And why?
What makes US libertarians in particular so susceptible to Kremlin messaging?
Let's explore!

"Propaganda gushing from Libertarians. " Surrounding Russia with nuclear-armed states. Nuclear armaments define a state's sovereignty. I waded through this listening for the anti-Ukrainian involvement arguments to be addressed. Mostly heard name-calling but the arguments against Ukraine were not addressed. Summary of libertarian positions: Don't harm others and don't take their stuff. Their argument is largely based around the choice between peace and war. Would love to hear some history and facts. Roman's argument sounds like it's western military-industrial-complex propaganda.

Did you forget the whole Russia invading part? They violated the NAP first in multiple conflicts, since the start of the Soviet Union to the present. I do not sympathize with that crumbling, disgusting nation. It is telling that given the first chance, everyone of the European satellite states decided to join NATO. The central Asian and Caucasian satellites are too brutalized to dare leave the Russian orbit, but is easily bought by China as the Chinese are at least more negiotiable.

Well FA is biased so it has no value for Normies as they can basically listen to the very same propaganda on MSM. Their target is other propagandists and at this point the scope is damage control of the abhorrent support they get for what hey are paid to do.

Libertarians are liberatarians for a reason, they do not repeat opinions of some overrated economist and his racist rants as a gospel for a reason. And calling Russia a horde of barbarians is hilarious, considering the history and expansion of the US or the West, which colonized majority of the world. Russian question. LOL, I see that the west hasn't changed much since Adolf, you are always the same, just the victim and racism getting softer ways to manifest. I really do love how the current thing is that war is bad and the invasion is barbaric. Despite that, in year and 9 months of the war, we have 10k civilians victims recorder and only 600 children among them. Now let's look at the only civilized democracy in the Middle East, Israel, 20k civilians dead in 2 months. But Western npc is like, it is Hamas fault. This ability of the western npc to hold 2 contradicting opinions at the same time and to turn the eye blind always fascinated me. There isn't any other society which would be capable of that.

The case against Russia and the case for Ukraine haven't been made. You fell into the exact same trap as all other leftwingers: Working from presuppositions that only you've embraced. (Before you ask, all forms of liberalism are inherently leftwing.) That's assuming that we're starting from zero, which we're not. The global liberal system supports Ukraine ergo the natural inclination of anyone against the system is to oppose Ukraine. The overlap between those who didn't take the vax and those who don't support Ukraine is tremendous, for instance.

@@BayaRae I don't know why you have to write your comment below here if you want people to see what you have to say. I also do not understand why not taking the vax would be anti-liberal, sounds like the opposite to me haha. Also you are talking from an American point of view, falling into the same trap, working from presuppositions and probably assuming we're starting from zero, where everybody everywhere is American, and everything can be divided into one of the two narratives, the narrative of the Republican party and the narrative of the Democrat party. As if American politics is even based around ideology more than simply being purely based around party loyalties.

Would be interesting to see a similar video on why you think there is a lot of support for russia on the conservative, right wing, or even hard right wing side of western politics. My guess is a similar self hatred to what the left wing partakes in, except the lefts version is cultural, the rights is systemical or political.

Even intelligent and well meaning Americans are almost always totally ignorant about eastern europe, and that's something you can almost never underestimate . The big name libertarians you're mentioning aren't particularly smart and definitely aren't well meaning on the Ukraine issue. For one thing they are hard core ideologues who are happy to subordinate reality to their intellectual models of how the world should work. I've been a part of right wing/ libertarian circles for my entire adult life and if you give these people a choice between the simplest explanation or the dumbest one possible, they will always prefer the latter as long as it feeds into their identity and political lore. Related to that conspiratorial mindset is that a lot of right wing Americans are so demoralized that they genuinely want to believe Russia is some traditionalist slavic, orthodox Christian country.

Unfortunately, this was an unusually bad interview. Just tired 10-15 year old neocon talking points. Would've wanted to see a lot more nuance than "Russia man bad, Russia evil empire, behold our historical wisdom". It's a low resolution take, that's not any different from leftists finding fascism from anything right of Mao.
@ThePolistiren
@ThePolistiren 6 ай бұрын
But Russia man is bad. Anything more "nuanced" is mere pretentious overthinking and centrist posturing. They've always been like that, they've always invaded their neighbors to expand their Eurasian empire, as explained by Dugin (invasion of Moldova in 1990, invasions of Chechnia in the 90s, invasion of Georgia in 2008, and the invasions of Ukraine since 2014, just in the last 30 years). There's nothing else to it, Russia has no legitimacy in its countless acts of aggression.

Sure, there's a lot of corruption and some of that money is going into people's pockets (both in the US and Ukraine) instead of going to the war effort as it should. Lucian discusses this in other videos too. But the situation you're in is like your kid is dying of thirst and you have to buy your kid a water bottle, and the store charges you $50 for it. Sure, it sucks that you got scammed, but to pay $0 and allow your kid to die would be a far worse idea. If you care about the US as a civilizational project, and you want your great grandchildren to enjoy the same freedoms and prosperity as you, it is in your best interest to support the Ukraine war effort.
