My suggestion is this: just pile as many bite-size ideas you can into a folder somewhere, then put them together as needed one day.

This is a great point you make here about some people not wanting to fully put themselves out there. It can be scary to really tell people flat out that this is my best work I could possibly do.

The fact is that not all KZbinrs are actually good at making great music and songs even if they’re good with the tech side of things.

Great video. I’ve found that every time I’ve done one of those “song in X time” or minimalism challenges, I find myself so stifled and anxious to generate a good piece of content more than have fun creating something that I both enjoy and am proud of. I kind of ended up starting from scratch this year, clearing a bunch of shit out of my home studio, and slowing down. After some time, doing so has had a significant effect on both my “free creativity” and output.

Great video and very good channel. It is difficult to avoid mediocre work when pushed by everyday accomplishments that are not focused on artistic goals. Also is difficult to keep motivation in the proper level when we don't have a demand, and an objective deadline. Balance is everything.

as someone who is stuying music production and technology in school atm in school we'd call this a mid-side setup with 2 different mics for the stereo, in a ms (mid-side) microphone this would be done by a polar 8 pattern together with an omni mic for the mid, then by doing mid - side and mid + side you get a left and right channel, but this would be a "fake" stereo as it would be a very mono sounding stereo, what your setup does is it splits this 1 x 8 polar patrn into a seperate AB mic setup, so you basically did an AB mic setup with a mono take closer by (with a condensor aswell giving you more body in general), giving you an "enchanced" ms setup. I think the main difference you'll get is a lot more room acoustics compared to the setup you had before, together with maybe a bit less "fret noise" i guess id call it. This is coming from an basic understanding in mic setups, so anyone if there's anyone with more info then please inform me!

I tried the song in a day thing when that trend started a few years back. It was shit. I really don't like what it does to the creative part of the mind. Sure, it forces you to complete things that you might otherwise leave in a half-finished state for eternity, but that's a whole other thing.

I've had this ongoing thought process. In the tech review space I feel this phenomenon is even more obvious and pronounced. If it wasn't for the product that they're using or sharing being interesting, would you watch them? Watching people who make videos for a living about stuff that they use to make videos for a living isn't what I'd personally call artistic. There's also something to be said for the fact that these things take effort. To be good at making music, you have to focus that effort, but it comes at the cost of other things. The reverse is true for making content: you aren't spending as much time on the music. None of it is bad, wrong, or anything like that. But each choice has an opportunity cost.

This video is totally pointing how hard it is for artist who are struggling with music that is quality over quantity. Some artist are not made for quantity their inner selfs drives them to make good shit, ... always. Also the 'Less is More' hype sucks cause finally this became a bit dogmatic, everybody who uses other gear that's not from a hyped 'Less is More' brand, not using the tools that everybody uses, gonna struggle to get seen. Maybe this is not good for music, cause it maybe blocks things pushing forward. U need time to make quality music, this is a problem with posting a video everyday on instagram then posting once a week, 2 weeks, etc... It's seems like the algorithm got no rhythm.

At the core, is it the conflict between your day job (producting other's music, uploading weekly youtube videos, aiming for clicks), and art (expressing yourself through music)? Between paying your rent and raising your children on one hand, and a metaphysical experience on the other hand?

I have turned off any number of product review videos, tutorials, and other videos through the years due to terrible music choices made by the people putting the video together. Especially when it's some self-recorded or amatuer song recording with terrible mix, or lyrics. My least favorite for stock music is the watered down U2, The Edge style, chorus and delay effected arpeggiated guitar chord...bleghghghghck.

This is a really interesting discussion. I do various creative things - the primary one is fiction writing, but I also like to dabble in music. And the thing that messes me up more than anything is always fiddling around with stuff. To me, the 'go with the first draft' kind of idea really helps me move forward. I'm a hobbyist though, I'm not trying to put out my best work, I'm just trying to finish things. I never really do. I don't even finish my writing projects usually, so I tend to write serial things where in some ways, it doesn't matter if it never finishes, it just might be slightly disappointing.
@AdamSliger

I get it for sure! I think releasing your first draft is 100x better than releasing nothing. I also just don't love the dogma of "your first draft is always good enough" and I've sometimes stuck to it when I knew I could get 10-15% more quality out of something if I gave it a few more hours of work. Endless tinkering is something I think everyone should avoid for obvious reason haha
