Guru Gobind Sahab wanted a painless method.From common sense of that time it seemed jatka is quick method,but we now know spinal cord has sensory nerves.Brain is alive for 5 minutes even after head is cut off and animal feels great pain of cut nerves of spinal cord.In halal 1st pain centers are made numb by cutting main blood vessels of brain carotid arteries quickly and then after 5 minuted spinal cord is cut.

@@untouchableali Normally, any sensation felt in our body (somatic cells) is first perceived by cognate receptor proteins and it is then transmitted by nerves (collection of neurons) through the spinal cord to the brain. The response from the brain again is transmitted through the neurons of the spinal cord and manifested by the effector muscles of the body. In case of halal slaughter, this spinal nerve pathway is purposely not disturbed while in case of jhatka it is disrupted instantly; hence, the sensation of pain is bound to be lost immediately in the jhatka method while in case of halal, the pain sensation is transmitted from the brain until the animal dies.

Main misconception with slaughtering for halal meat is that the throat of the animal is cut. This is incorrect. The jugular vein is what needs to be cut. This is a swift action that renders the animal unconscious with minimal pain in milliseconds.

Hasan Bahadur Sikhs aren’t supposed to eat meat anyway. Only in time of dire need are we to consume meat, literally in times of death and life. Firstly halal slaughtering is very merciful brothers. You may watch any informative video on it. Halal meat is healthy too. And as for the method: First you must give the Animal water. Second: separate it from the other animals as to prevent the other animals from witnessing the slaughtering. 3rd; calm the animal, cover its eyes. Use a sharp and fine knife so it won't hurt. And starting from the front causes an immediate death. It severs the jugular and let's the blood completely drain.

Halal slaughter does not cause pain. Once slaughter happens blood is out from Carotid artery, jugular veins which stops the brain and heart immediately so basically it's dead and feels no pain. Cutting from the back is wrong the animal is still alive the heart and brain are still active because the blood is mostly still there it's just dying a slow painful death. To be honest, he's right about the halal part. But the fact is we don't know whether cutting the spine in one go causes pain or not. Slitting the throat during halal must cause pain irrespective of whether jugular veins are cut or not because pain receptors still work for few minutes and the brain still works for few minutes before it goes dead. Few moments of oxygen or blood cut to the brain won't cause the brain to stop functioning immediately. Neither the neuro receptors and neurons in our brain would stop working suddenly. So, yeah it's bound to cause pain to the animal. But jhatka probably should also cause pain. How that pain would work is a bit hard to comprehend. So, the best is to abstain from meat consumption if you're really concerned about pain to animals. And it's actually hypocrisy to talk about how Halal is a humane way. You follow halal because it's been written in your books, that's it.

I agree with you: I don't personally don't think there is a right or wrong way to kill an animal and the best way is abstinence: I do think that halal, kosher, and jhatka all cause some level of pain and we can argue on which causes most pain all day long and the end argument will always be that going vegan is the most humane. If I want to eat meat on a particular day I don't really think about pain to the animal because I would have been a vegan if that were the case ... because in the natural world when a lion/tiger/alligator is hungry and wants to eat a zebra... Sikhs are my favorite people in the world. I believe Sikhs follow the teachings of Guru Sahab better than us Muslims follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. That said, I still believe that Halal meat is better for human consumption than Jhatka even though the latter is less cruel to the animal. But again, killing an animal is cruel in itself. If one is concerned about this, they can always go vegan, Prophet Muhammad himself was a very seldom meat eater. This was allowed back in the time of the Gurus as food wasn't as available as today but is still allowed by the Akal Takt, most Sikhs today are vegetarian as there is no longer a need to eat meat as there is plenty of other food choices.

He also did jhatka on thick neck of boar several times and i also tried once but my sword got stuck in midway from that day on I'm using nail gun. It's easiest and best possible way to give death. And there's really no Sikh way of killing animal written in Sikh Holy book. Sikh holy book says against those who kill animal for taste, fun and for sacrifice or on the name of God. And we use best possible method to give instant death to animal as told by last guru(it's not written in Sikh Holy book, the message was just verbal). And reason behind we avoid Halal, because Halal is slow death. It's suffering for animal. Jhatka is quickest method. Nail gun is even quicker. Nail Gun is so quick that when goat eyes are open they stay open when they're closed they stay close it's like you switched off the running computer. And I'm always open to the newer and best methods.

There are sects within Sikhism . The Most conservative is of the amritdhari Sikhs who don't smoke and drink . They compulsorily have beards and turbans . They are also compulsorily 100% vegetarian . Brahmjot Singh I'm npot sure if Guru Maharaj exactly allowed meat but when the singhs were fighting in the jungles and in the battles, sometimes they would starve. I just wanted to say that pain receptors are located in the skin, not only the spinal cord. It's true that with jhatka the animal dies quickly, and this would be merciful as it saves the animal pain. However the blood is not allowed to be drained fully before it dies. Most diseases are carried by blood, and consumption of blood can cause sickness even if properly cooked, so it's vital to get the blood out while at the same time having mercy on the animal, which is the aim of halal. Killing an animal by slashing their throat is not painless and consumption of blood DOES not cause sickness in the way you seem to be suggesting it. Halal is brutal and shows a lack of mercy for the animal. No human being, Sikh or otherwise, should touch halal because it's so cruel for the animal involved. @@ghaah No, the pain receptors on the skin send it back through the spinal cord to the brain, but technically there are some reflexes that occur in the spinal cord itself without going to the brain so cutting it won't matter there One would also argue cutting both the cartoid arteries would technically cut the blood supply to the brain and causes the animal to lose conciousness while going thru the spinal cord might cause loss of pain but the animal is still aware, and loss of pain is tricky because it depends on which level do you cut, you could possibly lose sensation only in the lower body/chest and still have pain in your neck

The neurones which keep the heart beating is behind the neck. Halal slaughter means that the pain receptors are immediately disengaged and the heart continues to pump (without pain) allowing all blood to drain away allowing for a much less toxic meat.

Brother halal is the safest way to eat food.. If the vein is cut blood doesn't remains in the body of the animal, blood has so many toxins which are harmful to the health, in jhatka procedure blood remains in the body only and you will consume that.. When it comes to vegetables, they are also living things, it is scientifically proven. So if you see in that way, then by cutting 10 plants one can fill his stomach but by cutting 1 goat 10 people can fill their stomach....So brother please believe on facts...

I'm Muslim but i only follow what's in my heart bc i know that's God's guidance for me but i only eat chicken n beef meat halal of course but i feel guilty eating it. Something in my heart tells me to stop eating meat but not being able to. This is my journey to figure it out in the future if i should or continue eating those 2 meat only. This philosophy is contrary to Islamic beliefs and the Sunnah. Whoever adopts it or calls to it has opposed the Qur’an and Sunnah. Verily, Allah commands that which He wills.” (Al-Mā’idah: 1) Based on this it is harām (prohibited) for a Muslim to adopt a vegan way of life out of choice. It is also impermissible to adopt a vegan diet (due to its underlying philosophy) unless a person is diagnosed with allergies or finds his body is intolerant to all animal products such as milk, eggs, cheese, meat, fish, honey, etc and becomes sick when he eats them. That is because veganism is predicated on saving animals from “human cruelty” and from “usurping their possessions” such as milk, eggs, meat and hide. Allah allowed meat from cattle, game and the produce of the sea: يَسْأَلُونَكَ مَاذَا أُحِلَّ لَهُمْ ۖ قُلْ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ ۙ وَمَا عَلَّمْتُم مِّنَ الْجَوَارِحِ مُكَلِّبِينَ تُعَلِّمُونَهُنَّ مِمَّا عَلَّمَكُمُ اللَّهُ ۖ فَكُلُوا مِمَّا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ - 5:4 “They ask you, O Prophet, what has been made lawful for them. Say, ‘Lawful for you are all good foods and game animals caught by your trained hunting animals which you train as Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of Allah upon it, and fear Allah…” (Al-Mā’idah: 4)

True sikhs don't eat meat....but when guru sahib went to Nanded in Maharashtra, India many of the local people became sikhs.. However they didn't give up the practice of eating meat... That's why some Sikhs eat meat otherwise IT is COMPLETELY PROHIBITED IN SIKHISM TO EAT ANY KIND OF MEAT

when you are a warrior and you are on the run from the persecution of the governments...then you dont live in permanent settlements where you can easily grow food in farms or get a regular supply from market...then you have to eat what ever is available in the forests because that is your hiding spot...ask some paramilitary personell they'll tell you what all they have to eat....there are special excersices where you have to keep a pup as a pet and then you are asked to one day kill it and eat it...at times duty and responsibility towards community are of greater importance...ill put you the same question today suppose you are faced with an apocalypse you have your daughter or children dying of hunger in front of you...will you let then die or feed them something...another question but what if you live for a greater cause you have chosen to raise an army against evil.. now while you are on a run in forests will you choose to survive and execute the task at hand or will you choose to grow weak out of scarcity of food....
