Between Dune and Shang-Chi, I've really felt like I've just been on a different wavelength from people as it pertains to the biggest releases and now Marvel's the Eternals is only adding to that feeling. Eternals felt like the MCU was ready and willing to go in a new direction, take creative risks, allow an artist's vision to be fully realized on screen and bring us something creative and fresh we haven't seen now 26 films in. Unfortunately, why trying to create a fresh original and new mcu movie, it seems as though they forgot how to tell a story. Chloe Zhao Eternals is undoubtedly a Marvel movie with ambition, unfortunately ambition alone, does not equal a good movie especially when your characters, are as uninteresting and shallow as the heroes of Eternals. With Phase 4 of the MCU already in full swing and about half or so of those Disney plus shows or new MCU movies have been bad to fine at best, phase four of the marvel cinematic universe feels a bit lost in what exactly it wants to do following the events of Avengers Endgame. Eternals or Marvel's Eternals is directed by Chloe Zhao and it stars Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee and Kit Harrington. Marvel Studios' Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens - Ikaris, Sersi, Phastos, Druig, Sprite, Kingo, Thena, Gilgamesh, Makkari, and Ajak - who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, the Deviants. Griffin (@griffschiller) is joined by @OwenLikesComics to not only discuss the history of the Eternalsm, stemming from creator Jack Kirby, but why eternals is bad or why eternals is a bad movie or why eternals is not good in this mcu video essay explaining sadly, why Eternals doesn't work!

No it does not. It’s amazing that Stan Lee’s genius still goes over the heads of fans. Lee is the genius writer - Kirby was the artist. It’s Lee who wrote…. _“Whosoever is worthy and wields the hammer, shall possess the power of Thor.”_ This is from the original Journey into Mystery comic. *The entire foundation of the Thor character in Marvel is based on this.* This is WHY Thor and the Asgardians worked and the New Gods and Eternals didn’t. This brilliant idea from Lee leads directly to the moment where Steve Rogers wields Mjolnir - perhaps the most powerful moment in the history of the McU. -> A mortal who is *worthy* can have the power of a God. -> A God who is *not worthy* can be stripped of his power. So it’s not really about power. It’s about character. Get it? Just…genius. And it’s amazing that people like you, and Zhao and Snyder *still* don’t get it. Eternals is a film that doesn’t even understand what it’s about.

Not to mention Groot doesn’t require a fully fleshed out backstory nor an arc like normal characters. And we didn’t need to know their entire life stories, we only really needed to know that all their lives were tied to the power stone/Thanos on various levels, and the mutual agreement that the universe would be in immediate danger if they didn’t do anything.

Yes! Finally Thena & Gilgamesh had the best chemistry to me. She's sharp and swift and he's a gentle fist. He smoothes out her edges while ultimately being stronger while she's witty and headstrong while being deadlier. Honestly I would have pushed to have them together despite people valuing their platonic affection because honestly it looked like he was in love with her and it would have been great to see an Asian man be shown to be Eternal husband material and be married. Especially this movie wants to throw relationships at us. There's like 5 already and Sersi is in 2 of them.

If you ask me, they should’ve introduced Ajak by herself and truly give her the role of a leader. She has the most interesting arc and ultimately she’s the one that went against the Celestials when she decided to abandon the mission. So it would’ve been fitting to see her come to that conclusion, it could have been a period piece film and also it could have explained why they just didn’t interfere because Ajak abandoned the mission. We could’ve had also better and smaller arcs for all supporting characters because they all would’ve had a purpose that made Ajak evaluate her stance time and time again. For me the biggest issue is that their struggle spans thousands of years instead of focusing on a part.

I honestly find it so weird that a movie that is all about humanity and how good people can be I never felt that humanity. When Sersi’s boyfriend was introduced I expected him to join the Eternals and go along with the journey. He’d be a character we can relate to because he isn’t some godlike being or a super soldier or even a regular soldier, he’s just some guy. I expected him to come along and over the course of the film start relationships with the other Eternals. I expected him and Ikaris to have a almost jealous rivalry since they both love Sersi but that becomes a friendship and would then add onto Ikaris betrayal as not only is he betraying his friends but he know has meet humans and knows how good they are and his choice to let them die is more impactful because of that friendship… Instead he disappears and is replaced by the camera dude who doesn’t even serve a purpose but to be comedic relief before he too disappears. There’s so much wasted potential in this film man

There's a reason you didn't feel any humanity in this movie; it's because it's all about devilry. Actually, Yes! I liked the movie and I hope the Eternals return for more but this was my biggest complaint. I was thinking “Wait, maybe humanity isn’t worth saving” because I didn’t get why they cared so much. I know I wouldn’t if I was an Eternal. Seems like the director trusted the audience as humans to know why we are worth saving??? But at the same time, I’m in the shoes of an Eternal and from what I can see, we’re not worth it in comparison to the broader purposes of the universe.

I think this movie needed Dane (Kit's character) to tag along with the quest to find the enternals as the audience stand in. This way he could ask questions as he is the outsider and give a human perspective (also while hinting to the black Knight). It would also add more depth to Cerise via there relation ship and could lead to a rivalry with Ikarus. He could still accidently treat Sprite as a child trying to protect/coddle her, which would add to her own insecuritys of her being in a child's body. I know we have Karun as the human but he already knows about the enternals via Kingo. He comes across as more of Kingo's yes man (or maybe in a subtle relationship). He doesn't really have any connection to the others or questions them to much about there stand point which is why Dane should of tagged along. The only issue I see is him being useless at the end, but some one who is smarter than me could make it work. Also ideally in this version of the movie the deviants are saved for the sequel with Ikarus or Druig being the primary "villain". With the entire conflict being derived from oposite ideology on the disposability/control humans depending on which is the "villain". Also it might be beneficial to have the entire movie set in the present no flash backs, only hints, and save the back story for the sequal then tie it with the deviants. With the sequel being more comparing and contrasting the eternals with the deviants. All while debating if the deviants have the right to live/is it wrong to hunt them. With the answer being vague cause on one hand they can wipe out all life on planets but on the other hand that is what they was evolved/created to do and are becoming sentient.

This is a foolish excuse. Chloe zhao herself pitched the eternals to kevin feige. Marvel greenlit the movie and said you direct it. There is nothing sexist or misogynistic in it. She made it herself. Now, that's no excuse, but i think some have gone too far and have mistaken political agenda for constructive criticism. Some critics are salty about not being able to be filmmakers. It's wrong and egoistical to criticism. These people, who are saying eternals bad becuase female director, should see that she is a great director and is being acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. It's idiotic and harmful how criticism has become. It's not criticism anymore, it's hatred and ego. That's the truth, like it or not. And i am tired of this outrage culture. This monetisation of hate. People like fandom menace do that. They monetise on people's hatred towards hollywood rather than providing solutions to curb this PC. It's wrong and shows hypocrisy. Agree or disagree, this is what it is. Not everybody might be bad, but nerdrotic, heelvsbabyface, geeks and gamers, mecharandom42( her audacity to say that snyder sold his daughter to pedowood! He lost his daughter autumn and grieved for her. He didn't return until his fans called him. She also called him father of the year! She is the worst garbage i have seen. These are the only members who i think are the worst. Granted that i know people want good storytelling and filmmaking, but it will come at a cost. This is a weird phase hollywood is going through. It will take 15 years for this to end. I still remember joker being pryed upon by critics for its depiction of mental illness and patients, but there is a video by Justwrite who discusses whether or not movies should teach morality. Go watch it, his points are great. The movie is amazing though. A flawed masterpiece. Yes it's paying homage to taxi driver and king of comedy( or copied?), but this movie is produced by Martin Scorsese, so he has a hand in the storytelling along with Todd Philips. The first one you meet mentions how he couldn't hold his psyche together watching his friends and loved ones rot while he lingered on, so he decided to live as a hermit. You meet more throughout the story and each has their own trauma in regards to this ability. One even commits suicide. The girl traveling with you is also Gifted and she decides by the end of her arc to try living with people as best she can, but it's left ambiguous as to whether or not she'll eventually succumb to grief. I was mostly let down by the ruined potential of Sprite , Druig , Kingo and literally anyone who isn’t Icaris and Sersi. If everyone is so great why did they only focus on those two? The rest were practically useless and therefore coudln’t have had development. I’m especially mad they made Sprite a backstabbing school girl (albeit with a redemption arc) and Kingo just a shallow dumb movie star. Druig should have gotten a better role at the climax of the film. I love how he stood up to Ajak because it shows how much suffering of people knowing he can’t interfere has messed with his head. I wish we could have seen more scenes where he cared for the people and not just the one in the rainforest and babylon (?). ALSO A HUGE LET DOWN IS THE ROMANCE. The film should have focused more on Thena and Gilgamesh cuz their affection and chemistry is so much better than the rest. I also don’t like Druig and Makkari’s relationship cuz it was so sudden and unexplainable , they’re an amazing couple but I wish we saw more : ( I was also let down by the cinematography , especially next to the brilliant Shang Chi that came out two months prior. Overall Chloè’s style is evident and we can see her desire to experiment and add on with this project but one movie can only fit so many storylines.

I felt like they had more interesting backgrounds and personalities. Why did the film focus so much on the 2 most boring, flat characters is beyond me. Ikaris being just another superman, and how everyone just treats him as the boss cause his the most powerful. Was just so cliché, they did try to show how everyone stood against him, like overcoming the person they looked up to. But it just felt soo flat and srsly overdone. It's 2022 we've been over this. Sersi was just soo boring, and the fact that she has 7 thousand years of memories and was so unsure of herself was extremely discouraging and annoying. To the point that Thena had to tell her we don't have time for this bull, get up. It was funny to me how Icaris actually had chemistry with ajak and thena (I thought he was flirting with them all) but none with sersi. That intimidade scene was the most awkward thing I ever seen, it was painful to watch. Thena was a really interesting character that left me wanting to see her story, her battles and suffering through so many years until she became what she was shown as. And her relationship with Gilgamesh, how did they become so close and thrusting through the years. Druig seemed like the most interesting of all, does controlling minds give him some insight into the person's mind? He could've built his own paradise, maybe the Aztec empire was his doing? How did he live the last 2500 years since he parted from the group? Kingo was great, so funny, I would've love to see how he became a star and his funny interactions over his life. Though his power is kinda blah so he could be blended with someone's like sprite? I feel like most of them could be smashed together as few characters. Like what was the point of Makari? Loved Phatos but he had so little time, it was impossible feeling any connection with his character.

I gotta agree. I had no expectations going in, no background with them at all. I only really started paying attention to the MCU after Infinity War, but didn’t bother watching all the movies I had missed prior. Needless to say I’m not all that concerned eith the MCU. I mostly expected to forget about it with the end of Iron Man and Captain America’s stories. But from the moment the trailer dropped, I gravitated to this movie a lot more than any other MCU movie that ever came out. And while I see the technical issues, I felt attached to these characters. The movie brought me to tears several times, something none of the other movies did strangely (with the exception of Tom Holland’s death 🥲). So strangely enough, this didn’t feel like an MCU movie and I actually really liked it. In fact, it was the first thing that made me anticipate the future of the MCU. It didn’t feel too girl bossy, and left me asking a lot of interesting questions. Sorry for the long response! 😅

I also agree. Eternals is so different from all the other MCU movies that it is super refreshing and I really appreciate that the movie is dealing with more matured topics such as morally grey areas and where people with relationships with each other can stand. I honestly find myself really thinking deeply of the themes of the movie during the slower drawn out scenes, and that's something I had never done in any of the other MCU movies before this. The other MCU movies had always been "yeah ok, tell me what happens" but in Eternals I find myself asking the characters "oh gosh what are you going to do now, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place." The characters are vastly more dynamic because they make active decisions instead of the world happening to them (looking at u Shang Chi). I really feel a lot of these reviewers are just trying to "follow the flock" of other reviewers on rotten tomatoes for fear of being cast aside or losing audience. MCU is over a decade old now, that means youngsters who watched the first Iron Man are now in their twenties or thirties and possibly working and paying bills and are matured now. This is the right step and even though is not an episodal series, I think it deserved a cinematic movie, and was presented fantastically. I hope Marvel reads all these comments because they shouldn't keep making too kiddy shows for their matured audience.

SPOILERS I thought this video was very well said. If you asked me a thumbs or thumbs down for the movie, I'd say thumbs up. I enjoyed the film overall, but I didn't think it was anything great. But one of the biggest things that I wanted to echo from the video was the lack of connection and emotions the film has with the audience. Take Ikaris' decisions and "betrayal". You see his inner conflict and turmoil at having to go against his "family" in order to continue serving his masters and continue to allow millions of races to form in the universe (I also think Richard Madden did quite a good job - and being honest, it's a genuine moral dilemna). You see how hard it is for him. You even see his mind change after the flashback. But you never FEEL it. What should be an incredibly emotionally charged moment just doesn't hit And I think that's true of most of the film. You see all these things happen. You're told to feel this way. But you don't FEEL it. It lacks that connection and I do agree that it felt shallow and just... Empty in many ways. And yes. The Ikaris death thing was a bit too on the nose for me

I think they should have tried doing the Eternals more in animations first. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes was able to add a lot to Marvel's cosmic side and if they had continued, they could have done the Eternals. Similarly, look at how the New Gods were really popularized by Superman: The Animated Series and the DCAU. Lots of people want to see the New Gods now but go back to before Michael Ironside's iconic Darkseid in the DCAU, no one outside of comic book fans knew who the New Gods were. The DCAU basically did for the New Gods what RDJ did for Iron Man. Also, I have to point out that the Eternals are very different to Superman. Superman, despite being an alien, was raised by humans and is very human. The Eternals were always alien and godlike, some try to fit in with humans but others still retain very alien perspective. I don't think Chloe Zhao was trying to deconstruct them at all. She's portraying them as looking at humanity through different, often, alien perspectives.

That's *exactly* what the film did. It introduced characters into the present day cast one by one so that their personality could be explored. Their ideals and beliefs were practically the focus of the whole third act, with Ikaris doing anything at any cost to preserve the birth of a Celestial, Kingo feeling the same way but disagreeing with his methods, Sprite agreeing for personal gain instead, and then Phastos disagreeing because of a personal stake, Sersei out of general empathy, and Druig and Makkari because of love. It was much deeper and more mature than any other Marvel movie. I liked every character and had no issue understanding their struggles and empathizing with them. Didn't mind the length and it didn't drag for me at all. I would actually prefer if it was even longer since some parts felt a bit rushed. I also don't agree that there was a weak villain. In my opinion, there was no villain at all. Only the cast of powerful characters tormented over centuries facing impossible choices and their consequences. I feel people are just trying to fit this movie into a mold it doesn't belong into. It might be my favorite Marvel movie now alongside Ragnarok and Infinity War. Have to watch it again.

I just watched it a second time on IMAX and it was amazing. Not so emotional since I knew what was coming but I could focus on cinematography and details more. Every story point makes sense, is perfectly explained, and foreshadowed in the movie. You can see everything on characters from the beginning if you know what is really happening. Every interaction and emotion makes sense even more in context. The acting is amazing whole movie is beautifully put together. Even grand plot of Celestials, the existence of Eternals and Deviants makes sense from how it is set up and explained. I am so full of dumbed-down movies that don't trust viewers with any kind of thought process (and sad to see they're kind of right seeing the reception of this movie). This was such a breath of fresh air. Also how you could miss that Sersi loves humanity "beside someone saying that" is beyond me. The first third of a movie is basically scenes of Sersi loving humanity in different variations.

100% agree. people keep applying these cliche superhero tropes when mcu movies are moving toward genre films featuring super heroes. There is no big bad in eternals because the eternals themselves ARE the big bad. Their conflict with their mission is the problem. None of them feel the exact same about the mission and whether its right or wrong. It doesnt even resolve the conflict. The characters make a choice, and the consequences have yet to come. This movie wont appeal to everyone, fine, but i reckon that a narrow view of what MCU movies should be is often the complaint for this movie and most recent mcu movies that try to let the filmmakers vision shape the style. It’s the most comic book thing we’ve ever had on film. Like comic editions crafted by new artists who put their style as the filter for stories and characters we’ve known and seen before. Eternals was a win for me.

@@milanhvozdik3379 your point about sersi is spot on. People don’t seem to realize that from her first moment seeing earth, to her choice at the end, she was always in love with earth. The thing i think most people miss is that, the love between her and Ikaris is mostly one-sided. While sersi loved ikaris, she loved the other eternals and earth enough to put them first. Ikaris ONLY loved sersi and his mission. Their first interaction was Sersi saying how beautiful earth was, and Ikaris ignoring earth and admiring her and introducing himself. He could have killed all the eternals, except her. That conflict between his mission and her made an almost impossible decision for him until the very end. That love toward sersi, is what I think sprite was in love with. Not Ikaris, but rather the love that Ikaris and sersi had, that she couldn’t have. Then living with sersi post ikaris breakup only taunted her more because they had something she wanted, and they let it go.

I disagree Makkari and Gilgamesh we're kinda underdeveloped in my opinion but other than that all the other characters are so well rounded and developed. The acting is fantastic the climax has an amazing payoff where all the characters end their disagreement within and decide to come together for the greater good. Sersi and Ikaris were obviously fantastic but I actually also really enjoyed sprite and her conflict was really relatable and I almost got a bit of a Romeo and Juliet vibe for her and Ikaris. Which is so fantastic because everyone knows the best thing to do to confidently show romance is tragedy. The fact that she would rather become mortal than live another Day as a child, unable to do anything is just amazing. But by far, my favourite character in the entire movie, was druig. He. Was. Amazing. My favourite scene in the whole movie is the scene where they are all at the war in the past, right before they all break up. I loved it because druig is the only one there that is like no. You people are blindly following this arishem guy. You're blinded by loyalty and I'm not going to sit by and watch these people kill eachother. And the only person opposing him is Ikaris. It's just so good. Like I wouldn't even really call it a marvel movie, I mean the powers and the giant climax and the CGI aliens definitely felt like marvel, but at its core, this is a story about conflict within. How people with different allegiances and different beliefs, people who fight for different things and do it for different people. And the people themselves, the people that have been told one thing for thousands of years, never told to believe anything else, suddenly realise that they have a choice, the internal conflict you see as they struggle with this epiphany one by one, all in different ways is honestly poetic. I honestly feel like the reason people don't like this movie, is because they don't pay attention, they don't sit down and are like "today I'm going to watch eternals" they go into it like "oh let's check out this marvel movie I bet it will be bad." And then they are surprised that they had a bad time. Throughout this 2 hours and 30 minutes you need to be invested, you need to listen and really think and take in and philosophise as to what you are seeing. I never do this in a marvel movie, ever. The only other marvel film that made me feel this good, was spider verse, and that's a Sony movie so it barely even counts. This movie isn't really for the average mcu fan, this movie is for people that really care. And that is why my love for this movie is *Eternal.*

One double edged sword here, is the choice to have the characters behave like people, as opposed to movie characters. Kingo leaves the movie in the third act, and it makes sense for his character, but is unsatisfying and jarring because he’s simply gone. We never cut back to him during the action to get his perspective on what’s happening. It’s the same with Dane who is introduced as a major character in the opening of the film, only to kind of disappear aside from a few phone calls until the very end. He’s not around otherwise because he’s only a human and can’t be in on the action. That said, we once again lose emotional investment because we’re not getting perspective from a character we were told to care about. Imagine if in Return of the Jedi, when Lando goes to blow up the Death Star, we never cut back to him. We just see him pop in at the end after it’s destroyed. It would feel very bizarre, Awkward, and unearned. The movie is full of characters and character arcs/choices you’re meant to be invested in, but simply aren’t shown enough of on screen to be fully invested.

I swear to god I genuinely instinctually thought ‘TV series’ when I saw it’s first footage etc. I think it’s fair to say many of our favourite tv series wouldn’t work as a film. ‘Big little lies’ was originally a feature film until an exec Producer suggested to make it be a tv series at last minute and it worked beautifully. This would’ve been a fantastic tv series giving each character time and all the nuances a greater amount of time. Imagine a full episode covering Icarus and that thing he did (spoilers).

And have all the characters team up right before the middle of the movie so that we arent't going to wait the entire movie makkari and phastos to join the conflict. "I could've just read the cliff notes" is exactly what i would apply to most MCU projects....ecspecially Black Widow, which i thought was completely abysmal. Eternals is going in the right direction. sucks we might end up reverting back to easily absorbed blockbusters that gets forgotten within days. The biggest issues with this film is defintely the pacing, but it's far more scifi rich than most MCU films and the characters are filmed here with far more humanity than we're use to in this universe. It works for me on so many levels that it outweighed the bad. I think it is a good film, confused? sure. Exposition heavy? defintely. But then again.....i'm the type of guy who like lengthy scifi epic with character. I'd like to challenge people on this whole "Characters aren't fleshed out enough". I felt each character was given appropriate amount of attention to serve the story and it's resolution.

I feel some of reasons you bring up for it not being a good story about being too many characters, I feel you miss the point that the Eternals come as a unit of 10…the avengers movies have the luxury of solo movies to establish individual characters arc…Eternals is certainly ambitious in expanding the MCU universe in bringing the idea of cosmic beings and Gods into the mix. If there was a movie of the 12 Olympic Gods (Zeus, Hera, Area etc) would people complain there’s too many characters. I feel that this being the first Eternals movie we are introduced to a lot of new characters and concepts, and characters we did not enough to spend screen time with, but the film made clear their individual motivations especially their conflict when it came to choosing sides. Some characters we know in other future films we will get to know more. Kingo made it clear that he may not agree with the others decision and has complete faith in Arsheoms plan…but would not fight against his family, and he is true to his character. I personally enjoyed every character the film gave us… I wished we were able to explore more about the deviants as they were evolving…As time passes I feel this movie will be appreciated for how good it truly is.

The argument is that there was too many characters with not enough time to tell about them, they could have easily made this film a 2 parter with the first part being a character piece, and the second parter being a by the books mcu movie. But they decided to cram a story about not just 10 characters but the lore of the celestials, and throwing in the random side characters that are set to appear in other movies. They could not accomplish a well written story with the timeframe they had set.

@@sentient.studio I found the film easy to follow, even with the 10 characters, I understood each characters motivation, and felt as an ensemble each got time to shine, admittedly more than others, but I liked the chemistry of the Eternals. I feel as their story continues more will be revealed about other characters. I personally don’t think it needed to be done into 2 parts, admittedly maybe some scenes cooks have been shorter or edited differently to help the pacing…. The real 2 actors that really got their short hand if the screen time was Kit Harrington, although this was just a teaser for his real marvel character. The second being Bill Skasgaard, as his Deviant character literally gets cut short as he was evolving. The concept of the Celestials was already mentioned briefly in Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2, and we are starting to see that they are fallible, as Arshem deceived the Eternals. I compared them to the Greek Gods, because they have said to have come from Olympus, the way the they influenced humanity, is similar to how the Greek Gods are said to help humanity…the squabbling amongst the gods… One thing I really appreciated about this film, which is similar to Civil War, no one is really a villain, because even the deviants, like Druig says is fighting for its existence and what they believe their purpose is. I think the flashbacks were definitely needed just to keep up the pace of the movie… to fill in some action scenes or drama to those who don’t really care to follow the story particularly closely

I liked Sersi's character. She's passive (which could be a CRT analysis on its own). Her power, by design, is defensive. She's not SUPPOSED to be able to affect living beings, so she revels in being in the presence OF living beings, but she's also been abandoned - both by her team members, and the people and cultures she came to love. I think all of them, except Ajak and Ikaris, have compelling characters. And the end split them up. I'm hoping that means each team will get more time as a smaller group.

Sometimes you have to wonder if the parties that make these films based on a Comic source ever even read a comic book and I'm really talking about the screenwriters. This film was Such an embarrassing tribute to the Legend of Jack Kirby and terribly miscast.

Love this channel. But I also loved this movie. I was enthralled the whole time, and each turn of the plot just stepped it up for me. It started as expected, and then just kept getting better. Great acting, great strategy for introducing each character in such a way as to make each one interesting. And I loved the story. Everything made sense, and I cared about what happened. Plus the theme - is humanity worth saving? - kept me thinking throughout the journey. Loved it all. Sorry some people didn’t.

I felt exactly the same. Even though it was long. I didn’t want it to end. I loved all the characters and felt for all of them. It’s crazy how diverse the reviews are, but I get it. I love slow brewing stories.

It felt very opposite for me. It felt like they're trying to squeeze in a story that has no impact on the whole present avengers universe, as if just to tell its universe is "rich" and "diverse" in its history. The risks in this movie were all pointless and I couldn't care less, since we already know how the future of this universe looks like. Story was pointless and felt boring, full of plot holes and plot conveniences, pacing was terrible and confusing. In conclusion, not good enough. 6/10

Thank you for your video essay. I think it comes to the target audience. This is a movie that does very well with kids and with people that did not have any expectations. The movie provides snipets that people digest easily and can have fun with. For example there are people that complain about the 4 hour Justice League. For me, it is my favorite Comics-based movie and I am so glad that it was done. In the case of Eternals, I do not find any of the philosophical concepts that other see. I do not find it a dense movie, complex o even remotely mythological. My problem with Eternals is that it lacks focus and therefore it wastes potential. I think this movie could have been broken down into 3. One movie about their family relationship. A second movie about the deviants evolving. A third movie about the celestials purpose. Instead we got 2 deaths and 1 human.

I'll say it now and I'll say it again, it should have been a tv series, it was way too rushed not because they couldn't tell a good story but because their was way too many things they could have done which they didn't have the time to further explore and extrapolate on

I find it interesting that u used the Snyder movies as a good example of what eternals tried to do. I felt that eternals problems really reminded me of what I didn’t like from the Snyder movies. The “ambitious doesn’t mean it’s good” aspect of the film is exactly my problem with bvs. I think the Snyder cut was a good version of eternals tho cuz at least 3 of the characters had introductions beforehand (however good or bad they may have been)

The Eternals is not a bad movie, it’s actually a good movie, not amazing but good. I did think it was a bit too ambitious, most characters are pretty good and their relationships too, the deviants are not that interesting. But This movie had one the most visually pleasing scenes in the MCU. The action was pretty cool and the twists are logical and surprising. This movie was worth the watch. 7,6/10
