I have always loved all those songs on Rocka Rolla and had never felt they were inferior in any way as far as the mix was concerned. Yeah, the songs sound a bit dampened for lack of a better word, but that added to their appeal and makes for a darker, melancholic, introspective sound. I do not think a remix will fix - what to my ears, was not broken. Judas Priest Forever!!!!
@Debiruman166621 күн бұрын
I feel pretty much the same, I never have been a "production" guy, I mean, a killer song kills even with a bad production... Steve Harris always complained about Maiden's debut because of its production, preferring Killers... but to me, Maiden's debut is an all-time great album, even with a shitty sound lol Rocka Rolla sounded good enough for me as it was, even though I must admit that it's not an album I really care about, aside from Run Of The Mill, Never Satisfied and the title track.

Great job on the new 50th anniversary of Rocka Rolla and what I like about the new remixed and remastered version is that it sounds like it could've been recorded in the same room, as British Steel, with a similar live sound. Although, I admit that both the original and the new version have their charm, as I appreciate them both for what they are as Art. I am not going to complain about the digital version being titled Rocka Rolla and not "Rocka Rolla (50th Anniversary Remixed and Remastered Addition") despite something I try to avoid. If you had purchased the original and now the newly remixed and remastered version on iTunes, both versions are not separate in your music library, when it comes to the listening experience. Basically, they are both the same album and it's not surprising that this had happened. For example: track one isOne for the Road and next is One For The Road (50th Anniversary Edition / 2024 Remixed & Remastered) and so on. However, it does differentiate between both which is good, but if you want to listen to them separately you have to create a playlist for one or the other. I had to do that in order to listen to both versions separately, so I wouldn't confuse things. No matter, I'm glad we have both versions of this album and I'm looking forward to the newly remastered version of Sad Wings of Destiny, whether it is remixed or not. Although, I hope that it comes out not just in the standard edition, but with a deluxe edition containing newly remixed and remastered versions of each song and live versions. There is a post script to this reply in that as of Wednesday, September 25, I found the two albums separate in my music library on my phone so, I'm happy that the two different versions have been separated from each other, in mine and others digital libraries for Apple Music and iTunes.

Not trying nitpick especially when I am not 100% sure of this but I have heard that the earlier version of Diamonds and Rust was not recorded until the Sad Wings sessions. To be honest, I have heard both scenarios but I am hoping the reason it wasn’t included with the Rocka Rolla reissue is due to it being part of the later sessions and therefore will be included with the Sad Wings issue in a couple of years. I too was hoping that any existing demos including Mother Sun would have been included in this latest release as I have been waiting to hear a studio recording of this song since I heard about it existence nearly 40 years ago. I even asked Rob about it when he was in Fight and he pretty much confirmed its existence as a demo but said that Gull was in possession of it and he hoped that one day it would be available for release. On the other hand, if Gull did have it in there archives I am not sure why they would not have released it yet.

Rocka Rola always had good songs, and now it has the production that it lacked. I know a lot of people trip when a band remixes anything, but if they'll shut their mouths and listen, they will hear an album that shows what was so special about early Priest. Now if someone would find the original tapes for Iron Maiden's debut so Steve could mix it the way he wanted I could die happy. Hats off to the Priest for having the balls to do what they wanted. That's what metal is about in the first place.

I think they did well with the remix/remaster, cleaner and lots of new sounds. They said they didn't add any new content (thin that was from Ian Hill), if they didn't, wow that means a lot of sounds singing and music were buried in and drowned out by the low end mush of the original. Such a great album. It's not very popular but I enjoy that very early, prog rock inspired style of Priest. This album has absolute bangers like Never Satisfied and Cheater and also great epic tracks like Run of the Mill and Dying to Meet you. As much as I love the more heavy stuff, I also had my fair share of listening to Pink Floyd, Hawkwind and the Grateful Dead. Getting a new version of Rocka Rolla that sounds like the band intended sounds great. I have to say though, I hope they don't compress it to hell and back like those CD rereleases with the silver border around the cover art. And I have a CD version of Sad Wings Of Destiny that has A LOT of bass. That one sounds great but it really has a ridiculous amount of low and. 7:36 That sounds great. More of everything but still has a lot of "air". Love the reverb.
