Another reason could be that Mad Max is just niche in general. Fury Road's the highest-grossing film in the franchise & it didn't even make $400 million. Ironically, despite it being a flop, Furiosa is already the second-highest.

I don't believe you understand the fan base of the Mad Max movies. Wake up! Imagine a Superman movie that came out 9 years ago, and people eagerly awaited more Superman, but instead, we get a movie focusing on Lois Lane's childhood and Superman doesn't even exist in it. Would you still go to the theater for that? Don't just say you'd go for the cinema or something because it's a class movie. It's all just nonsense. The narrative is more important than any movie's quality. If furiosa would not belong to mad max then it would definitely be hit, but it have already a narrative, and this movie could not able to justify it that's why it fails..

I really loved Furiosa. That said though, this franchise has never been a huge box office winner, say for the original from 1979 but that was only because that movie had such a tiny budget therefore was profitable. Go back and look at the return Fury Road earned, a movie most say is the best of the 5. It really just broke even. It's no wonder it took Miller 9 years to get this one made. And that time gap clearly contributed to Furiosa flopping. Along with the fact that it’s not a continuation of what fans loved the most, it’s an origin story. So much was stacked against this movie

Tom hardy has made a contract to do a few more mad max films so idk what people are so upset about, Tom hardy isn’t going anywhere and it’s guarantee because he will have to do a few more mad max movies because the contract. I don't think think it's really fair to complain about too many sequels and movies being too iterative, and then to go "where Max tho?" I mean, do you want something different or not? There's been four consecutive films that already feature Max. Plus if you want to see a new Mad Max movie then you should support Furiosa, because he's supposed to be in the next one and the future of the franchise depends on the financial success of this movie. This isn't a Marvel movie. They won't just keep making them no matter what.

Saw it last night in a IMAX theater in Guangzhou, China. Feel bad cuz we are the only people in the theater and it's such a masterpiece really deserved to be called A Great Movie, 100 times better than the local shit they are making. Checked the Chinese box office, also flopped, feel bad, such a masterpiece. Sorry for lesser vocabulary, but love and respect from the otherside of the world.

I absolutely love movies and I love supporting movies, but I just cannot justify spending $17 for ONE movie ticket. My local and only theater within 30 minutes just raised their prices to $14.50 with a $2 surcharge per ticket. I’m well off financially and still can’t justify that greedy ass shit price. People can hardly survive in this economy, movies are the last thing they’re going to pay for

I haven’t seen this movie yet. And I’m not denying that it’s good. But this is kind of movie would’ve been better suited as a hype sort of movie. If it released like 2-3 years after Fury Road, I feel like it would’ve been financially better because people would see more as an in between movie that you watch to have a little extra fun in this world. The equivalent to how some games will release dlc to tire you over until the proper sequel comes out. If the Fury Road sequel came out 9 years after the original. And this film came out only 2-3 years after Fury Road. I feel like it would done way better.

Spot on. I have no interest in this movie either. I may never see it. For me, seeing this movie may destroy the image I have of Furiosa in my mind. Not every character needs a movie which shows their backstory. Character with a mysterious past are mich better than an explained past. Imagine Tarantino made a movie about that damn brief case in Pulp Fiction & showed you what it was. That would ruin all the different movies we have seen in our minds. He always mentions this. Mystry is intriguing, exposition dump is not. Also, isn't The Penguin a sequel show which will show his rise to power & will tie in to The Batman 2? I just watched furiosa and I agree with you. This film feels a lot like solo: a Star Wars story… it’s a prequel about events we already knew, based on a fairly beloved side character but not enough demands to guarantee a stand-alone.
