A galvanised chassis is only an extra layer of protection, not "fit and forget". If you use a high pressure drain jet thing on the chassis box section and Dinitrol or similar after every winter along with the above then it will last forever. I wish I saw this video before building mine. Great advice Chris.

Correction at about 3:40. You can use zinc on aluminum. Zinc chromate or zinc phosphate. Zinc chromate has been used for years on aluminum aircraft. Good info on the rest.

What comes through strongly here as with many rust proofing paint systems is that preparation is very much key! Excellent info and I'm looking forward to that 10% discount...

just some really good advice.. also people fit galvanised chassis and think they will last a millenium, you still need to do maintenance.. cheers

that is the key, yes.

I've seen those electronic rust protection devices, like rust CAT & erps - and wondered if they work - do you have a knowledge on them and there effectiveness? Thanks for video, I learn something new every time I watch one, l always thought you could get a galvanised chassis, forget about it, and it would last ever, good to know that it's not just like that.

There could be more info given. Was the chassie electro plated or hot dipper and was it shot blasted before it was hot dipped that add considerable more zinc on the plate. Electrical power line brackets are shot blasted and dipped they can have a life span of over 60 years . His paint I’d say did not stick because he grinder it with the brush and this polished the Steel too smooth, so paint found it hard to stick to super smooth surface. I’d advice sandblasting and galvanised then get a brush and paint grease to them nooks and rust spots. And repair ever few years. I’d get oil inside the chassie tube. Not burned oil.

nothing wrong with the inner box section of the chassis. We did cut it open and observed for ourselves. You are correct about the paint adhesion. It should really be shot blasted for the best adhesion, however, the paint is designed not to have a great deal of prep work undertaken before painting. As for the process of that chassis. It didn't come with any info so no more could be given. Thanks for your comments.

Applying oil would make dust adhere to the oil and dust would hold moisture on the surface thus creating rust .Yes? @@trailerfitter2

why go to all the trouble of wire brushing etc to remove corrosion, when there are many compounds that can be used to sandblast a chassi and can be done in less than a day, the other problem is the box frame unless yogurt some primer inside it will continue to rust.

We need a titanium, or stainless steel chassis supplier :)
@gelabangetzz1989 Жыл бұрын
You will get thicker steel if its stainless. That means heavier car and inneficuent fuel consumption. It will be much more expensive both in manufacturing process and after sales use.
@Jin-Ro Жыл бұрын
@@gelabangetzz1989 I think a stainless chassis would crack too after thinking about it. It wouldn't flex as readily as a steel chassis. Titanium would be nice though. Mega £££

well nothing lasts for ever, but it will make them last a lot, lot longer than the raw metal or metal plus paint. i was behind a 3 year old landie recently and already the paint was off the rear crossmember and it was already well rusted. disgraceful that they are producing them this badly in this day and age.
