Yes America would, and did, talk about gun control a few decades ago. I am a little over four decades old and I remember it well, but American gun control is older than me. It started in 1934 with a tax on some "dangerous" firearms in response to gang violence, then in 1938 as a requirement that gun manufacturerss be federally liscensed. Now there are hundreds of federal gun control laws. A bunch of other stuff happened including a ban on the sale of new automatic weapons in the 80's and a ban on "assault rifles" in the 90's. Thank goodness those laws ended all violent crime and we now live in a peaceful utopia. Gun control has been a debate in the U.S. for nearly a century. Also, all of it infringes on our rights as defined by the U.S. Constitution...you know, if you read the thing literally.

In my country, Nigeria, where Muslims and Fulanis can go on a killing spree and most times encounter resistance form communities that armed themselves against these attacks on Christian communities, the government came with a plea to lay down guns for a promised protection to increase both army and police presence, the communities believed and gave up their guns. That is very sad... Hope you are fine now, take care... My country had not such a problem, but i think i should add a comment here just so people know that gun-control doesn't work.. I live in Brazil, and we have a murder rate at the level of civil wars, criminals ride their cars in the "favelas" (brazilian type of slum) with guns out of the windows. There was a day they took a police chopper with a RPG... The law here basically protects only bandits, because, only few professions can render you to have a gun, and so, if you use a gun to fight a bandit, YOU get arrested, and you can only shot a bandit AFTER he shots (or try to shot you), or else it is not "self-defense" (with some exceptions, iirc). Consequently, bandits are basically free to terror the law-abiding-citizens, while the citizens have to accept being arrested for murder when they try to protect their family. Relatively recently, a serial-killer (Lazaro) began to terror people in Brazil, the ONLY FAMILY that he didn't terrorize was the family which had guns... And media sweep it under the rug... Some media and leftists even felt pity about the killer, saying "he is just a troubled minded individual", but this was so intense even some hardcore leftists got mad (but still weren't against gun-control).

Stay strong friend. A lot of people have also forgotten Rwanda where around half a million people hacked each other to death with machetes. It isn't the tool. It's the evil intent. A gun simply levels the playing field between the physically strong and the physically weak. Even a child or a woman can defend themselves with a rifle when otherwise they would simply die. Nothing in the history of the world has brought more freedom and equality than an armed population.

@@angrydragon4574 I agree, you bring up good points. I'd add that especially in the mid 80's early 90's when the cartels, street gangs & government introduced city streets to the crack cocaine epidemic in the U.S. Not only did the drugs destroy & kill many city neighborhoods & it's citizens, but the 80's/90's CCE also caused many of the guns in & on the streets still in the U.S. today. The crack era brought on so much senseless death & violence back then. Along with the drug cartels there was also a huge influx of illegal gun distributors & groups like the "Ring of Fire" who supplied U.S. street gangs & citizens with guns. The government, citizens & activists are always so quick to blame the guns or mental health as the main reasons of the problem. Which I don't entirely oppose or disregard those 2 things as part of the cause & we definitely could do better. However, the one thing I barely ever hear out of anyone's mouth in the media as a cause to all of these school shootings, is IMO a huge part of the problem on this issue, is all of these violent video games. IDGAS how anyone wants to try & spin it in denial, stop & take a look at these kid's habits & behavior for a minute? This isn't rocket science, it's just plain common sense, connect the dots? As the example I gave in connection with crack & guns in the 80's, the connection with violent video games & school shootings timeline also have a pretty tight connection too! If people think trying to fight the NRA or Big Pharma is a tough task, just look & listen to the silence companies like Sony or Microsoft are able to do? Much less the silence the Entertainment Digital Software Association has in power to quiet the masses of society & politicians. The reach corporations of these size, control & make the rules of law, they don't follow them. This is a problem!

Hey JP, thank you for bringing up this importaint issue with irony and humor. I have lived in Florida, Texas and California for extended periods of time, and now I live in Mexico, and I have some experience to share. Down here, there is a really tough gun control established in 1968 (right after the government massacred lots of students in a place called Tlatelolco in Mexico City, and then started what is sadly known as the "dirty war" in the '70s). So now, there is only one gunstore in the whole country (run by the army) and regular people have to go through hell in order to purchase a firearm (also anything above .32 is considered for exclusive use of the police and armed forces). And yep, there are no shootings done by nutjobs just for the kicks of it... Instead we have had several decades of genocides commited by drug cartels in the so called "war on drugs". These criminals (despite the ban on weapons) have enough firepower to challenge the army; ranging from antitank rockets to stinger missiles. Where do they get them, you might ask?... Well the DEA has been providing them for years (just look up "Fast and furious" operative in google if you don't believe me), along with corrupt officials. A prohibition on firearms do not makes them dissapear; it just makes them impossible to trace or control, and it makes sure law abiding citizens become easy targets for all kinds of criminals. Guns don´t dissapear because of a law! They just go dark and they damn sure go into the wrong hands. Sorry for over extending. i just wanted to share my experience. Greetings, and keep up telling the truth.

And even if you get 99%, the rest is already in the hands of people that are, let's say, "good at hiding their actions and property from the government". Here in the Netherlands we have had gun control since 1919, but the Dutch being fairly direct by nature, they did in fact state that the reason was so the people could not turn against the government with weapons. We were the easiest conquered land in WW2 and we have had several shootings and political assassinations since then. I'm not saying it would have been better without gun control, but it would probably be very similar. In the grand scheme people rarely harm other people with guns. Those that do will find a way. I am European, and genuinely unbiased about American gun laws. I do have a question though. So here goes: Mass shootings are often caused by troubled people who bought their guns legally, with no prior offenses or any formal registration of mental instability. What can be done to combat this? Liberal Americans often advocate the restriction of gun ownership, while conservative Americans see more weapons in the hands of the "good guys" as a better solution. Where i'm from (Netherlands) we have almost no gun violence. Here, it is generally thought that this is because guns are highly illegal here. Looking forward to your views. God bless.
@reneeb.27022 жыл бұрын
First, I believe a couple shooters should have been caught thru the background check but were missed. Those failures need to be fixed. Second, our liberal politicians decided to close the majority of in-patient mental health facilities. This was done without any robust replacement. Many of these people do not comply with voluntary outpatient treatment. Parents/family often report they have problems & fear violence will happen but are told nothing can be done until the person commits a crime. The shooters are usually known to be loners, make previous threats & post fantasies of violence online. Third, we share a nearly 2000 mile border with Mexico. Guns, drugs & gangs pour across the border from Mexico & South America. Currently, the border is wide open but even shut down you could not stop the guns/crime completely. Up until 35-40 years ago, boys sometimes had a rifle in the gun rack of their pickup. (For hunting) Those pickups were out in the school parking lot. No school shootings. People had guns, no mass shootings. We have over 330 million people vs your 18 million. We are a huge country. Often the police can not be close by. How do you defend yourself if someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night?

@Bert_de_Wit2 жыл бұрын
@@reneeb.2702 Really appreciate your views on the subject. We are from different worlds, and we have an entirely different set of issues. I understand many of the points you're making. One thing I was wondering about is how you said guns are coming in from Mexico and South America. Aren't those guns made in the USA? (I don't know of any Mexican gun brands). So wouldn't it be a good idea to stop exporting handheld weapons to neighboring countries? Secondly, you mentioned population size. This is not really a very good argument. American gun deaths per 100.000 people is way higher than Dutch gun deaths per 100.000. As an example, new York has roughly the same population as the Netherlands. We have only a hand full of gun deaths every year. Nowhere near the amount of new York. Other than that, your point about the leaky border with Mexico is an absolutely valid one. I see how yall would want a wall. It does give me sad feelings that after the Berlin wall and the Iron curtain, another wall is necessary to protect the peace. But I agree there is probably no better alternative. Lastly, as much as I love the states, I am also worried about the political polarization. Never before have liberals and conservatives hated each other so much. Americans forget that you are all brothers and sisters. Don't hate each other. Hate the enemies of the free world. We both know who they are.
@reneeb.27022 жыл бұрын
@@Bert_de_Wit What I meant about guns at the border is you could outlaw every gun in the U.S. tomorrow & just like the illegal drugs, they would pour back over the border. There are millions of guns all over Mexico & South America where violence of gangs are horrible. Our current administration is shocking in that it is not even trying to stop the literal millions of people, drugs & gangs coming in. Our own government is actually busing them into the interior of the country, giving them our tax money & new iPhones. I do not know how our schools, hospitals, services can hold up. 95% of Americans are for legal immigration of verified, documented people who are going to work hard & be loyal to our country. (We let in a million legal immigrants) New York has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and we see how that is working. NYC was a pretty safe large city. A great place to visit. But now leftest district Attorneys are allowing violent criminals back on the street to terrorize people, downgrading charges & not charging smaller crimes at all. Same for Chicago & other large cities. Mostly illegal guns. Also, we have a big problem with young black males with no father in the home. African Americans are only 13% of the population yet commit 57% of the violent crime. I agree, I have never seen such polarization in our country but there are outside influences at work. I have a neighbor who has been a lifelong liberal Democrat. He is as terrified as I am. He is shocked at how communist & globalist have taken over his party. A friend of a friend traveled often to Venezuela for business. He went back after awhile. Guns had been confiscated by the government. The criminals did not give up their guns. All the beautiful villas & ranchers were bordered up. He was shocked. All the people who could flee did so. The once thriving country was terrorized & then collapsed. To let you know, here in the U.S. many places are not like the news shows. Smaller towns are much safer for the moment. I just don’t know for how long.

Imprison all gov members conspiraring or attempting to commit the crime of violating 2a and not treating everyone equally under the law. Charge all gov members that want gun bans with perjury for breaking their oath and ban them from gov jobs.

when satire makes more sense than most politicians...it's laughable therefore it's funny
@JustinOhio2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you know you have a huge problem in a country when satire becomes funny because it IS logical compared to reality. It's supposed to be the other way around, that's actually how f'd up things are here.

It seems that there are people who feel the need to keep on trusting people who keep on lying to them. I don't understand that.

Everytime someone dies in a car accident we should start to ban cars more rigorously.

Or increase the price of fuel until the peasants can barely travel !

That would be compareable to people SHOOTING THEMSELVES ACCIDENTALLY. I think what you meant to say was "Everytime there's vehicular manslaughter, we should stricten the rules around cars" ** But go on, make your arguments make sense sir "pow pow gun gun My kid will die in school because my fear of being killed by the governement is costing american families more childrens lives than the governement even would gun gun pow pow"

Thank God for your (factual) humor because without it, I'd lose my mind. Love your perspective. Even your commercials are hilarious.
