If poverty and mental health are such issues that induce gun crimes, do you think more funding should go to mental health care and poverty assistance/relief? And do you think you would still need such a militarised police if those issues are solved? Because then maybe it's time to redirect some funding from the police to other measures

Can you elaborate on the incorrect details? I thought the conversation you guys had showed a lot of contradictions on the "more guns" side, but I'm sure you have responses to what Alexa had to say in the video. Personally I want to know if you can explain why the gun nuts always seem to support the police crackdowns when it's left-wing activists rising up against the goverment. Surely even if you disagree with their politics you should support them and their right to resist if that's your main reason for advocating for gun ownership?

As an American the fact that guns themselves aren't the main issue is the most common defense of gun rights here. @@DH-xw6jp is there anything actually wrong with the video except very specific nitpicks about what Brandon specifically owns or where he lives? No Brandon doesn't own a (live) missile, he doesn't own a minigun, maybe he doesn't actually sleep in his warehouse, he specifically needs to be an SOT manufacturer to own some of his guns, etc.... So what? The video really didn't strike me as documentary about Brandon's life or possessions so the inaccuracy is hardly inexcusable. The point of the video isn't what specific guns Brandon owns and they're not highlighting him owning a sawed off as an issue, because the issue they're talking about is the lack of gun regulation in general. It makes no functional difference to what they're talking about that if you walk into an auction you can't walk out with a rifle that has a barrel shorter than 16 inches or a sawed off shotgun, because for them the problem is that you can walk into an auction and buy a rifle or a shotgun in the first place.

@DH-xw6jp Жыл бұрын
@@cockatoofan "it's about the lack of regulation in general" While acting like heavily regulated things, _things that are ALREADY illegal for normal people,_ are easy to get off the shelf of any sporting goods store. I would say that is a big problem and very disingenuous. They compared a firearm manufacturer to "just some dude" for pete's sake. And in opening sequence they brush aside Rossenbaum, Huber, and Grosskreutz as just a couple of "protesters" and fail to mention all three were violent felons actively trting to kill a minor. One of which was trying to do so with an _illegally possesed_ handgun! I would say that is an important fact to mention. The idea that they want guns banned to save lives, that's all well and good. If they were willing to mention that firearms are defensively used _far more often_ than they are used to commit crimes. I would have no problem with their opinions, if they were based on actual facts and not fanciful strawmen.

I think one of the biggest causes of "small town" violence around the world (including gun violence) is our inability to address problems early. I know it's not always that simple, but a lot of the time when you look at the lives of the people that do these kinds of things, there are clear signs that they're not okay and need help now. But for a lot of these people, particularly young boys, the help just isn't there. A mixture of a lack of funding in those areas, a lack of expertise, a lack of empathy or care to even address the issue as real... It's enough to drive anyone crazy. There's more, but this comment is long enough.

Interestingly there is still a significant amount of guns in Australia still, most of the purpose of the buyback program was the change the attitude of gun ownership from a right to a responsibility. There are still millions of registered guns in Australia, pretty much every farmer has a rifle or five. You can even get a license to collect guns, or for sport/recreation, etc. The key was the change in mindset, but I don't see any way that mindset change could happen in the USA.

If a drunk driver ran into group of people killing 35 of them, would you support or oppose national car ban? Gun bans are ridiculous in a way they don't aim at solving the cause, but to mitigate the effect. However the ban punishes equally the small minority of bad people aswell as vast majority of not guilty good people. School shootings as BH said are exclusive to USA because they are caused by socio-economic problems combined with gun proliferation. The combination of gangs, violence, lack of psychiatry clinics, poverty, teen pregnancy, divorce rate, the cost of higher education, high incarceration rate etc. But of course those issues are hard to solve, because the government would have to admit its failure in those areas. Some people believe that only the government should have guns, yet after googling Holodomor, Wolyn, Auschwitz I don't feel so certain. If you also look at the riots in US in 2020, and war in the Ukraine (where government GAVE AWAY 18000 FULL AUTO AK47's to people on the street of Kiev - suddenly no background checks, exams or medical tests were needed).

@,-- Yeah, the US is split by classism. The gun enthusiasts that have private shooting ranges and these mass collections are living in a class that is essentially untouchable. The upper class and upper middle class. They've never really been oppressed by the justice system or legislation meant to undermine their democratic voice (red lining mortgages or jerrymandering or the bail system and so on). If you've got the money... nothing is really off limits here. These things have destroyed minorities in the US and left them living in what is essentially inescapable poverty. The people defending their guns fear oppression, because realistically removing their guns would be the first limitation of power they've ever had to endure. They may not be able to acknowledge it, but they fear becoming like the poverty stricken minorities of this country (this includes poor whites/white trash, but they're in a special in between worth it's own tangent). They fear giving even an inch will be the step off a steep cliff to falling into the way lower class Americans are treated and live. Why the hell would someone living comfortable in their gated community surrounded by their expensive recreational equipment ever willfully say "You know what? I want less. I want to live in a smaller house, pay more in taxes, and have less freedom to do what I please just so those other people can have a bit more?" They tell themselves all kind of excuses to justify why the "other Americans" have less. They say they're not Christian enough, they're drug addicts (drugs are another tangent), they're lazy, they come from broken homes, they're this, they're that... All to justify to themselves why they're entitled to what they have and others aren't. And do not get me wrong, most upper class people work hard. They genuinely do... but their hard work pays better in so many ways. The guy who works 80 hr weeks at $50 /hr is going to get a lot further than the one working 80 hrs at $9 /hr. And the $50/hr guy is going to have access to resources to assist him in avoiding taxes and establishing accounts that are basically not taxed to create passive income in addition to his 80 hr work week at $50/hr. Meanwhile, the $9/hr guy loses most of his check to taxes, he has little to no financial support (he can't even afford the financial advisor of the other guy), and it'll take him a lifetime to create an investment account large enough to create a passive income. And that's completely overlooking that if $9/hr guy and $50/hr guy are of equal intelligence and both capable of working each other's job, $9/hr guy will most likely never get the opportunity to do $50/hr guys job AND $9/hr guy's work is probably incredibly abusive on his body. He'll have medical complications well before the other, and that will cost him even more of the meager progress he's tried so hard to make. And of course, these hypothetical men do not exist in a vacuum. Upper class families support and prioritize money literacy, while lower class/poverty are often less able to manage their money because they're struggling from one catastrophe to the next. Paying to have their car fixed, scraping together money for a funeral... hell a speeding ticket can ruin $9/hr guy while it's just an annoyance for $50/hr guy. The point is, they are afraid of being oppressed and we are asking them to be oppressed for the greater good of everyone. Which is socialist, which if you understand where they're coming from does seem rather evil since it's demanding to take from them what they've earned (regardless of the advantages they had to do so). In the end it's a stale mate. And in the meantime people will die because our culture isn't ready to change.

We are all hurt by tragedy and when the easy route is to point fingers at one another, everyone just hurts more and that really gets us no closer to solving anything. Got to be honest, gun violence isn't a complex issue. It's a solved problem. Australia and basically every other developed nation have solved it for decades. We're the crazy outlier. And in this case, we absolutely don't need to be listening to both sides of the issue. Listening to guys like Brandon got us into and keeps us in this tragic state. Gun rights advocates are just fucking wrong, and when you're trying to make responsible decisions about how to run a society, you don't listen to the people who are demonstrably wrong. The idea that both sides of an argument are valid or have worth is a fallacy. Sometimes one side is "let's make sure it's really easy for anyone to get their hands on a magic murder wand," and the other side is "let's have our kids not get murdered at school." One of those sides is wrong, and if you land half way between those two choices, you still wind up with murdered children. This isn't a difficult issue to know what to do about, it is just hard to actually do what we need to in this country because of people like Brandon. Other countries figured it out for us. We just need to copy Australia.

Blaming fatherless children is a well known dog whistle. Saying the countrybwas founded on weapons is easily debunked by most historians. It also doesn't help that the right wing is the side pushing for looser gun regulations while simultaneously underfunding education, healthcare and every other social program. If anything I have even less respect for gun lovers after this.

Most law enforcement is going to be from your local Town or County, where you have more say over what policies are voted in and how its budgeted. Furthermore the Gadsden flag is more geared towards a distrust to a federal government not local or state which 95% of law enforcement is under. And most people that fly the Gadsden flag do have that distrust to federal agency's that don't really represent the thin blue line like the 660,000 State and county cops that risk their life everyday do.

Perhaps this is more due to my own historical background; but as a Tribal American who grew up on an Indian reservation, my tribe and I know full well how abusive a government can be especially when you give up your means of protection and considered an "other" (see why the Indian Child Welfare Act was made, etc). History shows, time and time again, a government that fears its citizens, respects its citizens. Just because a country is doing right by its citizens currently, does not mean it wont be corrupted in the future.

I was hoping the previous statement about the relationship between Native/Tribal Americans and the US Government would have portrayed that more evidently. Hypothetical, if Native/Tribal Americans had the same firepower and resources as the European nations would they have been so easily conquered? No, they would have survived with much better outcomes. Just like how England and France had hundreds of years of conflict, yet both still exist as nations today. I would encourage that we look at dictators/totalitarians of the past and how they came into power. One of the major first steps is to remove all means of effective and practical retaliation (aka, remove firearms/weapons).

It isn’t “government” that’s the problem. The problem is that you grew up in the US which built itself off of slavery, land theft, and genocide (so called “manifest destiny”). That means the country is a white supremacist one which has no problem abusing especially people of colour. And to be sure, the fact that class also exists in that society - by nature of it being a capitalist one - means that white workers will also be attacked, but does not mean that the system is not motivated by and maintained through racism. Government is not the problem. The UNITED STATES is the problem. I’m shocked to hear an indigenous person not recognising this
@Formalitus
@Formalitus Жыл бұрын
@@hiera1917 Ah see, unfortunately I believe you may have stumbled into a logical fallacy. You assumed that majority of nations were not built upon slavery. land theft, and genocide. If not between people groups (different races/ethnicities) it was between different tribes in the past (yes, even European nations were tribal at certain stages in history). England, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Korea, China, Mongolia, Russia, everyone in history experienced slavery, land theft, and genocide from within (tribal warfare) or from others (established countries conquering each other). The more you read about history from all cultures, you more you realize that people by their own nature are self serving which can end up, if unchecked, horrible in outcome. Seeing as that I have duel-citizenship in both my Tribal Nation and the US, if the US is the problem then I too am the problem. And yes, just like most people grow up in their home country, we tend to appreciate the place we grew up and hope it can improve for the better. On a final note, since I think you maybe don't understand tribal culture as well as you should, we as a people have fought in every American war at 5x the rate of other people groups. We are a proud people who fight for ideals such as freedom and respect which resonates with what the US stands for. Even if flawed, and you don't have to agree, the US has done more good for the world than wrong. But it's human nature to focus on the negative over the positive. End of the day, don't assume that all tribal people living in the US hate the country nor the people living in it.

One small thing to note about whatever they call "Yugo" weapons is that it's not necessarily something used in the wars, Yugoslavia just produced a lot of weapons even before the war, Zastava was probably one of the largest AK producers in the world after a bunch of Soviet ones.
