Why Halo 2's Cliffhanger Ending was AWESOME!!

Halo 2 had a very controversial cliffhanger ending. It caused quite a commotion when the game came out in 2004, and to this day many people are still talking about it.
But what if I were to tell you that the cliffhanger ending of Halo 2 was one of the best things Bungie ever did?! You'd call me crazy, right? If you watch this video, maybe you'll change your mind.

yeah i just remember it as a badass line. i dont get the critisism either. also it set up halo 2 as the middle of a triology. if it didnt end as a cliff hanger the start of halo 3 wouldnt be a direct connection to halo 2

@@OpenMawProductions it doesnt but i think its better. atleast now. maybe it sucked when halo 3 didnt come out for a couple of years. but also i guess you cant just end all games with him just escaping. my sister and i watched all the alien movies in a row and they have that problem. they all end the same XD but also to they point that in halo ce it didnt end in a cliffhanger. they probebly realised that halo 2 would be big enough of a hit that they where going to make 3 in the future. and i think they really made it work in halo 3. the intro was awesome :)

I played them out of order: 1, 3 and then 2. Then again, I was like 6 when Halo 2 came out, so... And being introduced to Halo 2's full campaign after 3 had released, I could understand how people were pissed by being made to wait. Thankfully I never had to go through that, but I will also never be ablw ti relate to the relief of anticipation since I didn't have to wait to play Halo 3 like everyone else back then. But in reality, I still can't see any other way it could have been made better. The hype SHOULD be the biggest and most full of anticipation at the end of a trilogy's 2nd entry. Amd since the fans were mad just because Halo 2's story really is THAT good, it simply contributes to and makes Halo 3 *_that much more rewarding_* when it did finally release.

I have to come out as one of those, who not only disliked the campaign, but who also was terribly disappointed by the cliffhanger ending. I do see the worth of it now, as an adult, who sees the cinematic value and the potential for building up the hype, but i really felt let down as a teenager, when i played the campaign for the first time. But why did i dislike it so much? First, i hated to play as the arbiter. I thought that he looked stupid, and he was the enemy, and i didn't want to play as the enemy. When i had to play as him, i didn't enjoy the missions. I kinda acted like:"let's get this over with", and i more or less blanked those missions out. And then i got excited, when i could play as master chief, and got really pissed, when it switched to arbiter again. I didn't feel like the game was giving me a new viewpoint, but more like i was robbing me of nearly 50% of enjoyable playtime. It also ripped me out of immersion, every time it switched characters. And i think that's also why i was so disappointed by the ending, because when i saw the cutscene, i thought something like: "hell yeah, finally finished with this lame ass side quest, now I'm going to FINISH THE FIGHT as the master chief, and play the all out battle, the finale of the game....." And then i slowly realised, that there was no finish, there was no epic battle, no glory. I felt betrayed. That's what all this hype was about? six Arbiter missions i couldn't care less about, and seven Spartan missions that lead to a miniboss fight? And now i have to wait AGAIN??? The Halo 2 campaign was the one, i played the least of all the halo games. And i only played it as long as i didn't have xbox live. After that, i only played multiplayer. And i f* loved it. When Halo 3 came out, the first thing i did, was play multiplayer for about two weeks, before the completionist in me took over and i played the campaign. And i liked it a lot. It was just, that the disappointment of Halo 2 had somehow diminished my interest in the story and i sort of didn't care about it anymore. Part of me probably didn't also want to be disappointed again. So that were my reasons for it. Have a good day

When I started playing halo, Halo reach was already out and I had just gotten my first 360, but I started with halo 1 and played my way through all of them in their correct order and I think I can understand the hype just as much as someone who played halo 1 or 2 when there wasn't a halo to play next. Also man, I feel that you should not create a 2nd channel for non-Halo gaming content. It is really hard to grow a channel just on ONE game franchise. I feel that there is only so much material to cover before you will have to create videos on mostly speculation and rumors about the Halo games. KZbin algorithms can also affect what comes of for "The Act Man" if you use that in your second channels name. If you're going to put EFFORT into your videos, just post them on the main channel. Save a 2nd channel for "lower quality" videos, like the unedited scripts you mentioned. In the end, this is YOUR channel. You can put whatever you want on here. So long as it's an Act Man video I can't see people not liking it.

I got so many ideas and some of them take a LONG time to put together, others I could make in a day. I don't want to cloud the videos on this channel with easy-effort videos. Your story of getting Halo 2 made me remember how excited I was to get Halo 3. Halo 3 was my first Halo game, and I begged my mom to allow me to get it. I had the money, but as someone who always listens I wanted permission for an M rated game. After months of begging my mom finally asked other parents if it was appropriate, and they all said it was fine for a kid like me. I then went to GameStop and I played Halo 3 for hours straight. I loved it. Halo 3 will always be my favorite Halo. :D

Reed shutdown his Twitter account, due to backlash and harassment. Reed will be writing a story in the Halo:Fractures compilations, since he not the lead writer for Halo Wars 2, I don't think he will be lead writer for Halo 6. Both Reed and Frank seem to refuse to talk about Halo 5 story, since they missed it up so bad.

Zak Ras Brian Reed in an interview was smiling and saying 'Cortana wasn't evil', yet what she did in Halo clearly was. Reed, doesn't appear to know how to write morally ambiguous characters or grey characters. Reed writing choice made no sense, there already was a morally grey character to use as a antagonist, Halsey. I personally don't believe Cortana was brought back because of the app, and I don't believe Latenight's leak, since a former 343i employee (Haytred) called him out indirectly. I think Brian Reed just used a cliche, since he is at his core a mediocre comic writer.

It's interesting hearing people's memories of when Halo 2 came out. I am so much older than you Act Man so I find it interesting to hear someone who was in single digits when Halo 2 came out share their stories. I was at the midnight launch of Halo 2 (among other Halo midnight releases) and I remember getting a super big gulp of Mt. Dew and playing the campaign from 1am until 6am. I slept and finished it the next day (yes I took off a few days from work). The ending was more of a shock as I expected to land on earth and continue as Chief. Hell yes it made had me hyped for Halo 3 (3 years later). I have to say you are on point, I was a little mad because I wanted to keep playing, although I had that fabulous multiplayer to play so I really enjoyed myself.

Thank you much for making a video like this! I've always loved Halo 2 and thought it was an amazing game, but I could never find anyone who thought of Halo 2 in the same way. I though the story was incredible and the best in the series, however for some reason Halo 2's campaign gets a lot of hate. I don't think there was any reason to dislike the Halo 2 ending, because I though it was really good and it got me excited to play Halo 3. When I first saw the ending of Halo 2, Halo 3 was due out in just a few months (think it was 5) so I obviously didn't have to wait as long as some other Halo fans but I still loved the ending. It felt epic and that we'd really finish the fight against the Covenant. It's hard for me to describe but I just thought it was a really great way to end the campaign and build up the next game.

Despite what people say, Halo 4 was a good game. The story was good just because it concentrates more on a Master Chief and Cortana as living beings and their feelings, wishes and fears. The story was good, not good as previous games, but still good. The gunplay was awesome, best in the series, i can say. The graphics are amazing, combat was good and had new enemies who were funny to fight.

I love the ending of Halo 2, now I won't go into why, you said it. But many people don't think of Halo as one story.They think as each game as a story instead of a chapter.... As I said the book is Halo/ the Legend of John 117, might sound lame but, it's true and probably could have other names. The chapters would be something along these lines. 1. Combat Evolve 2. The Breaking of the Covenant 3. Finish the Fight Book 2? 4. The Reclaimer 5. The name should be The Betrayer 6. lastly, if 5 was called the betrayer, Halo 6 would have been called "The Truth" which would have shown the world the faults of ONI along with finishing off the forerunners.

Yay I am not the only person who loved halo 2's ending. I was seven years old and my family was on vacation at the California coast and I begged my mom to let me bring my xbox 360 over and she finally let in. I had been stuck on the level sacred icon because I used to really suck at halo but I finally came through and made it all the way to the end of the game and I was so pumped that I actually got farther through the game since I had spent days trying to beat sacred icon. So when I finally beat Tartarus as my favorite halo character and I finally beat the game I was so happy And I thought halo 2 had the best ending ever. This was back in 2009 ish so halo 3 had been out for a while and my stepdad had halo 3 at the firehouse so after a few weeks he finally brought halo 3 over and I basically drooled over the entire game.

Great video & congrats on 10k for being one of my favorite KZbinrs! Was so hyped for Halo 2 at the time and it was awesome getting the Limited Collector's Edition! 😆 I liked the cliffhanger but felt a little disappointed that I didn't get to finish the fight until Halo 3 just like you said. Halo 2 was definitely "The Empire Strikes Back" of the series. Sad fact thought that I didn't get to play Xbox Live at the time because my parents couldn't pay for it but at least I got to play Halo CE multiplayer on PC. For your second channel maybe do Arena games (like Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament), Reviews, Tips & Tricks, or discuss about the state of the gaming industry today and other game series. Keep up with the awesome job Act Man! 👍

Just subscribed and I got to say that I loved the halo 2 cliffhanger it left so many question on what would happen next my mind just went off on how halo 3 would turn out and in the end excited my expectations. Played the campaign multiple times and was my first Xbox live game. Definitely do some game nights on halo 3

i was 6 years old when i played this, next to star wars battlefront, it was brother bonding stuff. when we finished the campaign i didnt know what to think, cause i was horrible at the game, and was relieved it was over. when we got a 360, halo 3 was the first game i played on it, and i loved the continuation of halo 2's ending. love the content, keep up the good work.
