Steve Martin said Dells reveal at the end was originally much longer and was cut down. He talks about it in a video and wished they didn't cut Dells scene down.

Cole, I just learned there were many scenes deleted, some of which conveyed that Neal and his wife were already having problems before the movie starts, and that his being delayed 2 days and lack of contact was making her wonder about his fidelity. Also, there's a scene where Del orders a pizza to the motel room and doesn't tip the delivery guy. That's who comes back and robs them. Those scenes make more sense than just a random motel burglar, and the weird greeting at the end with Del and Neal and his wife.

Excellent! Yes! Thanks for this, sir. Those should've been left in the movie. Would have definitely helped cover most of the plot holes.

I thought this movie was funny ever since I was a teenager over 20 years ago. But now as an older father and husband my favorite scene of this is the final scene when the daughter greets Neal at the door and yells excited "DADDY!" and just the emotions on the wife's face and on Dell's face and the family gathered for Thanksgiving. Something so beautiful and human about that whole scene. Timeless.

It never ceases to amaze me how when someone loses control of their steering or brakes, they never think to just turn off the engine.

Anyone else ever have a "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles" travel disaster? Christmas a bunch of years ago, trying to get from Minneapolis to Philadelphia. Flight canceled due to weather; got to the train station, and snow blocked the tracks somewhere in Wisconsin. Got a cab to the nearest bus stop to get on Greyhound. Took something like 27 hours.

As we know from his previous films, John Huhges, despite being in his late 30s already, was a genuine fan of the current 80s pop music of the time- especially New Wave. The song that kind of serves as Del's theme is called "Power To Believe" by Dream Academy. John liked their original version with lyrics but asked them to record an instrumental version for the film. (John had previously used their instrumental version of The Smiths "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" for the museum stained glass scene in Ferris Bueller in addition to their song "The Edge of Forever" toward the end of the film.) Hughes also wanted to used Paul Young's hit version of "Every Time You Go Away" for the closing scene but his record label denied use despite Paul's support. The version used was by English band Blue Room, who had songs featured in both Ferris Bueller and Some Kind of Wonderful. ("Every Time You Go Away" was originally written and recorded by Hall & Oates) Btw.. the version of "Red River Rock" that you liked was by British musical project Silicon Teens. They were sort of a fictional band like Gorillaz. Having said all that... I feel that was a misstep. The modern, lush, electronic sound just didn't fit these characters or their scenarios the way it fit in his Teen movies. I also feel like it didn't mix well with the other music (Ray Charles, Steve Earle, Dave Edmunds, Emmylou Harris...) and the incidental score by the film's composer Ira Newborn. Minor gripes, though. Love John Hughes..Martin, Candy.. Great film.

Funny you should mention "Power to Believe"; that's the one thing in the film that almost got this reaction blocked! Had to use KZbin's new "song erase" tool to garble the audio. 😂😂

It’s always crazy seeing Steve Martin as the straight man in movies because his stand up comedy and his first movie The Jerk were so silly. He is the master of silliness, so I kind of feel like he got put into a strange box where he plays more serious characters in comedies. He’s also a great writer btw. If you ever get the chance, I recommend Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Born Standing Up, or The Pleasure of My Company. First time watching your channel. Liked it a whole bunch.

The "you're going the wrong way" near death scene always makes me think about two other traumatic road trip scenes from other movies. The scene with Pee Wee riding in the semi truck with Large Marge in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and the scene in Tommy Boy with David Spade and Chris Farley when the deer awakens in the back seat. 🤣🤣🤣

Tommy Boy - YES! 🤣🤣🤣 Believe it or not, Pee Wee's Big Adventure is another big '80s comedy I've never seen. Also, one of the few Tim Burton flicks I've yet to watch. Should probably add it to the reaction list!

@@randominerecords I love it. It's innocent, but still funny for adults... several recognizable faces in there.(I won't spoil them). Ruebens co-wrote with Phil Hartmann. Burton's feature length directorial debut. Danny Elfman's 2nd feature length score. If you've ever seen the tv show, it's that tone, but much less frantic in pace.
