Why Heaven Won't Really Be That Great

There have been all these books about people who are on their deathbeds and go to Heaven.
In one case recently, the author admitted he made it all up.
Still, if you're religious, you probably think Heaven is a great place. You live your life so that God will let you through the pearly gates.
But the problem is that, when you think about it, Heaven is a pretty horrible place to be. It's like New York City: I wouldn't mind visiting but I don't think I'd want to live there.
Here's why:
- Playing a harp doesn't even seem like fun now. I can only listen to Joanna Newsom for so long...
- Seeing your loved ones is great and all... but when I visit my parents or relatives in other states, I'm usually ready to leave after a day or two.
- Given the people who tend to talk about it a lot, the lack of intellectual stimulation would get frustrating after a while...
- It sounds like all you ever do is watch the people you left behind. Because they're always talking about how they know you're watching them from above... and that might be okay for a generation... but after a couple of generations, you're watching strangers. And that's weird.
- Where are all the rebels? The artists who challenge and maybe offend you? The drugs? The sex? The alcohol? The things you're not supposed to do or enjoy that really make life worth living?
If all of that's in Hell, maybe we're all aiming to go to the wrong place. The party's going on in the basement.
- I don't have any desire to be surrounded by suicide bombers who martyred themselves to be up there.
-- If Christians are right about unborn children going to Heaven, then it'll be me and 98% partially-formed fetuses. Not my idea of a good time.
- Do I have to go to church in Heaven? Do I have to worship God all the time? I don't want to do either of those things now, even for like an hour... why would I want to do them for eternity?
- Apparently, Heaven is just full of toddlers making a visit before they return back to Earth to get their book deals. Not my kind of crowd.
- If anyone I really loved didn't make it to Heaven, I would be devastated. How could I enjoy my time up there if I knew my parents or kids or partner were burning in Hell? That sounds like torture, not bliss.
- Part of why we appreciate life is because we all go through so many tough times. Sure, we take it for granted sometimes, but if you've ever had a runny nose, you know how good it felt when it was all clear again. If you've ever survived an accident, you know how good it feels when you're all healed.
In Heaven, there's no illness or pain or injury. It's just all good, all the time. And you can't appreciate that when there's nothing to compare it to.
- You thought having sex was awkward in your parents' house? Just wait till God's your roommate.
- The wifi connection is probably horrible. I couldn't deal with that.
Look: There's no Heaven. You have this one life. Go enjoy it. Don't stop anyone else from doing the same.

I once heard a Christian say that, if they are in Heaven, and a loved one is in hell, God will make you instantly conform to the fact that they are in hell, and force you to not be upset about the fact your loved one is suffering for eternity, and that the one in hell is given knowledge that their loved one is in heaven and doesn't care about their suffering. How can someone be happy in Heaven when their loved ones are burning BURNING for eternity. If God erases that memory, where is your free will? If heaven were real I would like to receive my own universe (similar to that mormon belief) after death and be able to freely create/experiment within it, then for a couple of trillion years be able to kill myself to never again exist (unless some dudes on my universe open up some sort of device that revives me again, but as one of the life forms I created... That would be cool)... But I would never want omniscience (if it were even logically possible, as with all the omni-variables) or omnipresence, omnipotence, etc., that would be incredibly boring, I'd rather it took effort to create/do stuff. This is sounding like a fantasy novel. I should be a writer.

If there ever was a Heaven, that would be it - an autonomous, independent, self-sustaining custom-made world specifically for you and you alone. Each person would have their own Universe to themselves, and would no longer rely on other beings for anything what so ever. No more dependence on family, friends, or strangers to live your own life and existence. No more rules, regulations, hindrances, and restraints of any kind holding you back. No one to threaten or ruin your own way of life as you want it to be for yourself that you could not have for yourself when you were alive in this world and life here and now for one reason or another. "True Heaven" for every single individual that has ever lived and died would be their own personal universe that is totally and completely free and autonomous from one another - even from God Himself if He truly does exist. Everyone would have all the knowledge and all the power to ultimately create, preserve, and destroy Life at will without any consequences to their own actions within their own Universe to command and control within. Just as God supposedly has with us within this universe we ourselves reside within. That would be, "True Heaven" to me, personally. To be my own God as I see fit where I will be what I will be and do what I will do when ever I do it to whomever I do it to if I so will it with no power or authority over me to say or do or judge otherwise. (Isaiah 45:7) In my own Universe, I will be my own, "I AM", and therefore make said universe into my own image as I will and speak it to be. "THAT" is "TRUE HEAVEN" to me.

Ask why they act like their choice of religion means more to them than their willingness to respect your decision not to live according to THEIR personal choices. Ask them what takes priority for them, your friendship or their need to push their religion on you (and mention that friends wouldn't resort to such disrespectful pressuring). Ask all this while handing it back to them. If they refuse it, throw it out in front of them. HONESTY is more important than maintaining a false appearance.

According to the bible, Adam and Eve had three sons. Cain, Abel and Seth. It mentions no daughters, but does mention (not by name) Cain's wife. It's been alluded A&E were the first created, but others had to be created afterward, otherwise Eve was putting out alot of incestuous babies.

If everything is perfect, then it would be really boring. Humans like to look for imperfections, problems, and we like to fix them. If everything is perfect, then there is no room to improve, nothing to do. You can never get better at anything, you can never challenge yourself. You can't read a book because you already know everything in all of the books. You can't play a game of competition, since it would just be a stalemate. The only thing you really can do is watch the earth evolve, except, you already know everything that will happen.

racso orodr Well my friend let me start with religion. Religion, in truth is a belief system. Everyone believes in something. I believe people don't want to be labeled, but rather changed, set free. If a man says he believes in nothing, let it be clear as day, this man contradicts himself. Is that not compromise? Who wants hypocrisy? Nobody. If a religion, leads you to self worship, it is in vain and you are not changed by God, but rather by mans tradition and only you are trying to make yourself righteous, but this has no honor, nor glory and your sins still remain. People want to be pure, be holy, be perfect. People want to know God, but don't know how to get to that point. But Christ explains all these things and has the power to do those things. You can know God for yourself, and you can be set free from the bondage of sin. Sin is at its root, selfish and being selfish is at its root, being self righteous. Jesus says' deny yourself and follow me. Not me, but him. Study the ten commandments. Then study these two. Love the lord thy God with all your heart mind soul and strength and love thy neighbor as thyself. Learn of what Christ says of these things. The kingdom of heaven is near to you. Seek The TRUTH.

It's only difficult if you don't really want it. You will never want it if you want to be your own God. If you decide at any point that you do want God to be your God, you will find that heaven is easy to get to as God has done all that needs to be done to get you there once you make that choice. It will never be forced on you though.

Considering that many theists endlessly bang on about the rewards they hope to obtain in the great Hereafter (“Everyone gets a mansion!”) it’s somewhat surprising that, even within the context of their own ridiculous belief system, how little they actually know about what transpires in this supposedly wondrous realm of the afterlife. Does their present consciousness persist into eternity? After having shaken off this mortal coil, what the heck does one actually DO in Heaven? How does one avoid becoming insufferably bored? Even for people who believe there is a heaven, I think the concept of what really happens when they get there must be nebulous at best. Just what does one do for eternity when they no longer have to work or clean the house and can't go to the movies or shopping or have a few drinks and go dancing, not to mention the complete lack of sex? Since we leave our bodies behind do we just float around in the upper atmosphere as an invisible, disembodied spirit, incapable of doing anything except looking down at everyone who is still enjoying life (or suffering through some horrible ordeal before they die)? The concept of heaven, a place where there is no more death, disease, famine, war, violence, oppression, etc., was clearly designed by people who had hard lives full of hunger, pain, and misery and wished for something better. The best they could hope for was that a better "life" awaited them after death, and so religion was born. What's horribly ironic is that religion has been the number one enemy of science, technology, and social progress which actually do improve people's lives by alleviating or reducing the hunger, pain, and misery they used to suffer.

Heaven makes no sense to me, and I'm a studious person with a conscience. To have a joyful reunion with people who entered Heaven, God would have to erase both of you memories of conflict you didn't resolve while alive and spoke to each other. Also, reincarnation is basically a curse of immortality with a poor quality of life. Buddhism was founded on an assumption that reincarnation occurred. I'm faithless anytime I'm not thinking about God but won't call myself an "atheist" because "atheist" is defined in many Christian minds as lower in moral character than a rapist. Given that the universe is almost completely hostile to life, and even large areas of the earth are as well, I find it very hard to believe that the kind of God you believe in exists. God was created by some ignorant men to keep the uneducated and weak-minded populous in line. God is the adult version of Santa Claus. Be good or Santa won't bring you toys. Be good or "god" will cast you into the charred walls of the damned, even though god loves you, and he supposedly flooded the entire earth, killing everyone except for Noah and his clan. But remember, god loves you! Live you life. Leave a legacy, because this is it. No heaven, no hell. Just nothing.

Why immortality would suck: 1. Everyone gone excluding you(unless they become immortal 2. No one to talk to 3. Time would fly 4. No one would ever find out 5. You would be very bored 6. You'd eventually go insane 7. You'd eventually get trapped somewhere forever or something bad would happen to you 8. You're still getting older(either mentally, physically, or both)

And the thought of being "up there," in some parallel reality where I can look "down" and see all the horrible torturous things that are happening on Earth (let alone in hell), oftentimes to the people I care about or come to care about, and being able to do NOTHING about it (or what amounts to nothing)... That sounds more like Hell to me.
