So true, I actually tried out the GH5 for a while, loved the image and video features, but 1. The autofocus is just awful, and the inconsistency of it makes it difficult to work around. 2. Micro fourthird lens are not cheap at all, and it only work within the system unlike Sony/canon lens can be use between full frame/apsc, and adapters. Great video, hit all the point for me to leave the GH5!

I had the same debate on upgrading from My prior camera, and honestly went with the gh5. Sony having no flip out screen, horrible battery life and not being intuitive in comparison to other manufacturers made me stray away. Also the gh5 shoots in 4k 60fps which is a plus! The gh5 is future proof for the next 3-5 years!
@EricVentures6 жыл бұрын
The m43 lenses also aren’t very expensive! And most m43 shooters invest in regular sigma glass with a speed booster so eventually if they do switch to canon...they can reuse their glass!
@JohnSmith-sz9bz6 жыл бұрын
I hate the lack of screen articulation as well but the GH5 is so horrible in low light & autofocus that I'm leaning more towards the a6500
@EricVentures6 жыл бұрын
John Smith yeah I feel you but honestly most videographers don’t use autofocus anyways! I’ve haven’t had any trouble even when vlogging, I usually just hit autofocus once and set it back to MF. And I’m actually surprised with the low light, i caught an amazing one lapse of the stars with a m43 lumix f1.7 lens and it did pretty good!
@NathanRibau6 жыл бұрын
how is focusing? I shoot usually using manual focus but worried about nailing focus. Hows the screen?
@EricVentures6 жыл бұрын
Nathan Ribau if you typically use manual focus it’s perfect! I 90% of the time use MF and click AF on the screen occasionally. The continual autofocus hunts around too much. Overall it’s decent and I don’t have much problems using MF and AF occasionally.

Fantastic choice, i only do stills as i dont vlog and i use the 30mm version of that sigma lens, they are absoultely amazing lenses for the price tag. Hope to pick up the 16mm as well some day, excited to see you put it in action in some videos :)
@Noahvde6 жыл бұрын
Yes the 30mm is on my list! Only things holding me back is the "auto focus noise." Is it bad? I've heard mixed reviews
@JL-sn1ee6 жыл бұрын
Noahvde Supposedly it is noisier than the 16mm although i cant compare directly, you do hear it in a very quiet room, but i wouldnt say it's downright loud. i reckon any background noise would block it out pretty much, but 30mm on an aps-c would be a bit cramped for vlogging, but it's awesome for all-round photography. The 16mm is such a good all-round focal length for vlogging though, if you are to get a second lens maybe consider a longer range zoom to get a bit more range? like the 18-105 f4 or something, You'd sacrifice low light performance but you'd gain more versatility to get more range when needed.

The a65000 is an awesome camera! But now that the a7 III is released at a similar price point as the GH5, would you consider returning the a6500 for the a7 III ?
@Noahvde6 жыл бұрын
Noo, I actually kept my a6500 in the box until after the a7 III was released as I was worried that the a6700 was going to be announced. I looked into it quite a bit before I decided to keep my 6500 because I felt the a6500 met my needs more so than the a7 III, the only thing I liked more was the battery life. I was hoping for a flip out screen, and some bigger improvements to video but it was mainly autofocus points, battery and drive speed. I'm not quite ready to stomach dropping thousands on full-frame Gmaster glass, one day for sure, but for right now I'm better off with APSC lenses. Not quite worth switching if Im going to continue using crop lenses even though the a7 III supports it. I feel the GH5 fits more of a niche which is why I was thinking about purchasing it. The dual stabilization with IBS and native lenses is crazy, you cant find that anywhere else. Plus the footprint of that camera and it's lenses is so small and the footage that comes from it is pretty beautiful, I prefer it to the Sony's tbh. That was kind of my reasoning behind my choice :)

The low light performance on a micro 4/3 sensor is atrocious though. The Sony dominates when it comes to low light
@dhL176 жыл бұрын
It's true that m43 cameras have worse low light performance, but it's not even close to atrocious. If you were having issues in the past, it's most likely user error.
@newyorkvisionary6 жыл бұрын
@@dhL17 Definitely atrocious when you're used to Sony low light performance. Noise at 3200 iso on a micro 4/3 is significantly worse than a crop or ff sensor. Definitely wasn't user error as I shoot professionally and know how to use a camera properly. Even doing long exposures for 20 to 30 seconds with a micro 4/3 sensor resulted in much less detail than I was accustomed to with Sony.
@SocietateaAscendenta6 жыл бұрын
@@newyorkvisionary I recently installed the Cinestyle (which is a "log" profile) for an older Canon 600D camera - YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE the difference, between the most "flat" profile that the camera came with (Contrast 0, Sharpness 0, Saturation 0-4 etc.) and the newer Cinestyle profile made by Technicolor, for this particular Canon cameras! If I mount a 1.8 lens on it, I can shoot indoors, on low light, with ISO 800 and get an astonishing usable video out of it! What I am, actually, saying: if people discovered this and install the real flat profiles (Sony and Lumix have already some "log" profiles installed on them), I think people will still love their cameras and not upgrade so fast. If only they searched and installed the "log" profiles on their present cameras... Only reason I want to upgrade is the slow-mo on the Sony. GH5 is a dream, but too expensive...

i like the reflected lighting from the snow when you are in the shade + nice colors in grading but you should invest in a nd filter you shutter speed is to low, your hands have very distracting stroboscopic effect. also you seem to like very contrasted and sharp images, if you want to look crisper at the cost of losing your blurry background you should stop down the sigma 16mmf1.4 to f4 ( www.magezinepublishing.com/equipment/images/equipment/16mm-f14-Art-6603/highres/sigma-16mm-f1-4-dc-dn-c-MTF_1512033783.jpg )

You really ought to try out some vintage lenses. I know autofocus is important, but it’s so rewarding to breathe some new life into old glass. Maybe you could just stand at a fixed distance for certain segments. Mix it up a bit. I have an a6000 and, while I love my Sigma 30mm 1.4, it’s literally the only lens I have that’s full auto. Over a dozen other lenses are manual-only and mostly vintage. Try to find some Minoltas or Yashicas. Adapters cost like $13 on Amazon and the lenses themselves generally don't cost much more than that. Great video! I'm super happy I found your channel. Enjoy your a6500 and come join us over at /r/SonyAlpha.

this is what I plan on doing. I bought the a6300 but I returned it to get the IBIS in the a6500 so I can use vintage glass
@SocietateaAscendenta6 жыл бұрын
No, it is true, Chris. One can use vintage lenses - ALSO without IBIS, for those who have such a "no ibis" phobia. One can be creative and do not have to WALK or RUN with a camera all the time, then you can also use vintage lenses quite well, also without IBIS. I love vintage lenses and have two, for my Canon 600D, BUT I would love to buy a Sony with very good autofocus, for the fact that I am a loner, when it comes to videography, in my family and have no friends WHO are good at it, or at least who could help me shoot something, e.g. I film and they hold a light above a subject... I like to make things on my own and be independent and with a good autofocus camera, I could, let us say, hold the camera with one hand (perhpas mounted on an electronic gimbal) and in the other one some cool colored lights, or a light bouncer or whatever, so that I can SHOOT while MOVING, all on my own. Get creative by myself. Know what I mean? Not even talking about VLOGGING, like these dudes buy these camera for, most of the times.
