FIRST: MEME STOCKS
Today, it’s almost as though the traditional advice no longer applies, because the stocks which are doing the best…at least in the short term…have absolutely NOTHING to do with fundamentals, at all…but, instead…they’re based on a combination of sudden investor enthusiasm, short seller interest, and the potential…to make a LOT of money, VERY QUICKLY.
But, critics of this say that….this isn’t investing...and they blame the surge of meme stock investing on the apps that make them all possible in the first place…like ROBINHOOD.
The SEC recent said that “they’re worried these stocks are too easy to trade on Robinhood and elsewhere - and that investors could be setting themselves up for massive losses.” He THEN went on to say that, “one of the ways to deal with the “gamification” of trading is to force brokers to act more like fiduciaries, as opposed to passive trading platforms that merely process trades.”
The way I see it…when it comes to MemeStock investing, I get it, and I see the appeal. But, at their core - meme stocks make very little fundamental sense in terms of the company itself, they’re INCREDIBLY risky, and just as easily as you can make money - you can also lose it.
Don’t invest what you can’t afford to lose, set a limit where you will reasonably take profits, diversify throughout OTHER INVESTMENTS, and understand the risks associated with what you’re doing.
What’s MOST LIKELY going to happen is that, fundamentally, this will discourage short sellers from overly shorting a stock, hedge funds will likely de-risk the moment the catch wind of a meme stock rally - and, over time, there will be a more balanced price discovery of stocks…instead of picking the most shorted, and driving it up from there.
SECOND: ROBINHOOD
First of all, it’s important for me to mention that - as someone who talks nonstop about personal finance - it’s my JOB to have every stock market brokerage app out there. I trade with everything, I see which features I like and don’t like, and most of these accounts have been set up for YEARS…but, unfortunately, Robinhood has been the only one consistently giving me problems.
On April 15th, I got a notice that my account had been restricted, and that I would be unable to withdraw any money from the platform. I thought, fine…doesn’t matter to me much, anyway, I’m not planning to move my money around, I’ll just sort it out and be done with it. But then, immediately after…I got hit with a DEPOSIT restriction, meaning - now, I can’t deposit any more money to Robinhood.
That was 2 months ago, and after repeated emails back and forth - my account is still locked, with no update when the issue will be resolved. This, unfortunately, is a HUGE problem, and will be the reason why I remove all of my money from the platform as soon as my account restrictions are lifted.

Robinhood is refusing to enable my log-in TO MY OWN ACCOUNT. And they refuse to close out my account and refund my money. AND, they demanded ID to "verify my identity" (my identity was fine when they took my money to open the account) but refuse to accept my military ID even though the government and all states accept it as ID. Robinhood holds the military in contempt apparently.

Exactly my thoughts! In fact, if he were smart, he would've liquidated all the money he lost + the $60k he took out to remake his money. At that point, even he lost everything, he would've at least broke even. His story is a good example of what a dumbass looks like. It's not even a matter of greed. It's just plain stupid.

What should be eliminated is gambling from your country and possibly using a vpn to gamble to an online casino at a different country. Not fully sure if this is already illegal, but this is what's going on right now. The concern is where streamers that are followed by thousands or more viewers are getting donations from unwise people or children that have access their their parents amazon prime/twitch account that are looking for reputation in that streamers chat. Did you guys know this? Apparently more streamers are gambling on these things...but yeah robinhood is alright for me right now.

Usually we see the successes not the failures. The media talks about the made millionaires and not the ones that gambled it all away. I personally keep around 10% of my assets into "riskier" investments and the rest is mid to long term. The riskier investments vary wildly between 10 to 20% gains or losses in a day sometimes even more... That part of my portfolio looks like a roller coaster.

Exactly, but I believe that fundamentals will eventually win in the end. This euphoria is similar to the dot com bubble and how the stock market was like in the 70s. Once the euphoria dies down or the stock market corrects (of which its massively overdue due to its sky high margins and inflation fears), I would be interested to see how many of these meme stocks survive the correction when the market sells off 15, 20 or even 30%.

Then why do we need those gamification features preying on "weak minded" people? Just remove them if they don't matter, everyone who is on those apps because they want to invest would still be there. Dang Graham! You will be old and Gray before RobinYou takes care of your account. That is really sad man. I have read lots of horror stories like this one. I am so glad that you are pulling out and getting off of their platform. Good for you! 😎

Thanks for explaining this without coming off as a dictator like some of the other ones do. This is a free country and we have a right to spend/invest our (earned/taxed) money how we choose. Simple warnings and reminders to be responsible I agree with. But anything above and beyond that is pure dictatorship and un-American.

Interesting video topic that you could cover: Does Technical Analysis really help Investors in predicting the value of a stock?
@MrCleverclips
@MrCleverclips 3 жыл бұрын
I've been studying technical analysis for three years. Yes it does but really it's for day trading and you need a deep understanding of order flow and what liquidity means and is. It's good when you're leverage is high and your trades are from an hour to a few days. Fundamentals will always beat technicals over the long term.

I got a webull and a Robinhood ad and nothing is more ironic than graham making money from them while cancelling them

@@MrCleverclips Thank you for the response because it is very valid. I was just more looking for Graham to respond since he is an investor who doesn't necessarily rely on Technical Analysis so I just wanted to see his perspective on the topic. 👍

If I had your issue with RBH I would drop them too. Fortunately I haven't had that issue (yet).

@@edubb2491 Agreed, "squeeky wheel gets the grease" as they say. But he's right you should diversify even amongst brokerages. I still like RBH though, I just ignore the bells and whistles and invest responsibility. As people should be doing in the first place.

Take some classes will on active duty because if you decide to go full time college after you get out you can stretch your gi bill farther. Also look up Vocational rehabilitation program. It like gi bill but maybe better. Depends on your situation.
