We were poor (both parents had disabilities) and I just wanted people to like me...I was NOT liked and that realization leaves a profound impact. For a while we lived in 1/2 of a double-wide mobile home. lol I didn't get to go to Disney until my hubby and I got married, and we did a Disney honeymoon. We've been there multiple times since. I was raised without a father too and also started to tear up when you were talking about it. I totally understand how you feel, but at the same time you do idealise the "present father". Even if he was there, it won't have been as perfect as you image. When I got older, I got to see how my dad interacted with his new family and my step brother. At one point I thought: "I'm actually grateful that he left when I was little". I was shocked. Never thought I would feel that way. Next time I saw my mym, I hugged her even harder and thanked her doing an amazing job at raising kids.
