Never played Dark Souls because the title suggests it's a dating game.

fully get what you mean. for me i'm picking and choosing the games i spend time on so this doesn't come up much, but dialogue like this feels like the equivalent of the Marvel "so THAT just happened..."
@jaguiler70796 ай бұрын
I think that's justified if you don't care about stories in video games that much but as for me, it's half the reason I buy the game in the first place. also, bad dialogue doesn't bother me that much unless it's like.. REALLY bad

LOOOOOOOOOL! I swear I do this and I always thought I was the only one. I activley avoid stories once I recognize I dislike the charachters.

Have you tried playing games using a non-English language dub, and no subtitles, so you still get the voice acting for immersion but have no idea what they're saying?

Not really, I might have to play through Sekiro like that

Did that for Mario Wonder since it felt weird having actual dialogue in a Mario game

I played Monster Hunter: World with German dubs and it was hilarious.

Honestly I’m ok with most dialogue and sometimes like bad dialogue. The bad writing/voice direction made xenoblade 2 really funny. The only game that annoyed me enough to not only mute the dialogue but also remove the audio files outright was Borderlands 3. Not only is the dialogue there extremely annoying but the game holds you hostage while you wait for story dialogue to finish. Removing the files makes it go by so much faster, the once in awhile times it breaks and I have to save quit and go back in are worth it.

bad whats so bad all the British sounding voices in Xenoblade games is what makes it so iconic the memes for the first game are beauty

Yeah I get that. A lot of times with a game like Destiny 2, I've been fed so much narrative that I've pretty much checked out. It's really only with games that I'm certain aren't going to give me anything with the dialogue.
@MetaMuto6 ай бұрын
It feels to me that this is the same problem with different causes. I think borderlands and destiny is a problem of length. With so many hours of content dialogue has to be written quick and basic unless its a key story moment and even then it can slip. Titanfall's problem is more just fps campaign's really struggling to get you to care about killing the villans with 4-8 hours for the whole game to do it so nuance goes out the window.

Just played through assassins creed 2 and borderlands 3 was the game I played through before. Wow, what a difference that 10 years made to the industry. I am not praising assassins creed 2 as some sort of masterpiece of storytelling, because it truly tells the story in a decent at best way. I am however pointing to the fact that a so-so game from 10 years ago is likely 10x more enjoyable to play with dialogue on than a current AAA game. Even in 2009 you could see hints of what plagues todays games but it was spread out far enough to just make it a groan, not a constant migraine. I think I’ll be sticking to older games and indie games.

you know Hi-Fi Rush is indie that games whole point is not shutting up an it blow the heck up beyond all expectations

so basically you must not watch 98% of games or films/TV then like image every game being like that one title that only has you drive in dirt with no one else not even music really since oh my gosh not every character is some high art piece trying to teach me things XD
@CafeCharlie5 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s really just a pet peeve like I said. It’s a thing like, I could write better lines for these characters right now for free just so they don’t suck. But bad dialogue can be just as memorable as good dialogue, so it’s really just me complaining lol.

@MrGamelover233 ай бұрын
Not every game needs you to question yourself after beating a boss. That only works for some kinds of games, but not for every game.
@flammable79613 ай бұрын
Yeah that was a strangely general statement when a lot of the time it’s not the case. Like imagine killing the lord of all evil or something then questioning whether or not you did the right thing lmao

I would argue you're completely overreacting. Show don't tell is fine and all, but it doesn't make any sense for every game story to just let you come to your own conclusions or be subtle. Sometimes it just is more realistic and makes more sense for a bad guy to just tell us that he will have his revenge.
