My wife and I were just talking about how there’s been a big turn over in our local news channel, which is in a major city, with the front line reporters and we wondered why? How cool was it to see this post. You seem like a go getter and extremely talented, seems like you should have soared into a national news platform. Good luck to you!!!

Retweet @ all of this! I'll always be thankful for my experience in TV news. It accelerated my communication and storytelling skills and pushed my work ethic to a new level. At one point, it was my whole identity, and sometimes, it's still hard to escape. Since leaving local news, I've finally learned to love my life outside of work and found a lot of peace in the routine of my new career. For anyone else making the switch, know that your work experience and skills are still SO valuable, and working in news wasn't for nothing. It's okay to change your mind and career goals as you grow and evolve as a person

Ashley thank you for the insight and behind the scenes look at being a reporter. My wife and I always wondered why you left TV news because you were so good at it when you were here in Toledo. But I totally get it especially the danger part. We wish you nothing but happiness and growth and enjoy watching you on KZbin and seeing a more personal side of you than what we saw on the news it shows us that you are a great person with a positive light in this world. Keep being you because the world needs more people like you.

Just stumbled on this while searching for something else. As a former TV news anchor/reporter myself (Madison, WI market). I couldn't agree with you more about wishing MMJs didn't exist. When I first started in TV news, they called it a "one-man-band" instead of MMJ, but it was the same: We schlepped the (very heavy) camera equipment, tri-pod, lights, microphones by ourselves to do the interviews, standups and live shots. My sole reason for wanting to move to a bigger market was to get out of the one-man-band scenaior. Thankfully, I landed in Madison, where all reporters were assigned fabulous videographers. But, like you, after three years there, I just couldn't deal with the shortened story length. (At one point, we were down to a buck-ten, which I thought was insane to tell a good political, economic, or business story.) I was lucky in that I didn't get sent out on a lot of the crime stories, as I was a weekday business reporter and 10 p.m. weekend anchor. (But I did cover several tornado stories in the field, which I truly loved to do, as I'm a weather geek. :) My dream job back then would have been storm chaser.) You did such a wonderful job of summarizing why the news business needs to change. The safety, financial, and overwork issues are, I believe, the reasons many ultimately get out of the business. Wishing you much happiness and success in your new career endeavors.

I’m so glad you stumbled upon this video and thank you so much for sharing your experience as well. I really hope that as more MMJ’s come out and share their experience somehow the industry will change!! So glad you are out of that industry, safe, happy and thriving!! we are definitely creating so much more fun here and I’m thankful for the community so I can continue my creative endeavors!

I commend you for not saying the word, "like", every 5 or 10 seconds as so many younger people have been doing in recent years. The use of this word was truly original for beatniks & Edd "Kookie" Byrnes over 60 years ago but I find it grating to hear these days. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Between working with older people and the risk of crime, I couldn't work that job.
