I’m 43 and just started back after 20 years off. I’m a week in and landing kick flips and putting together simple lines. It hurts the next day but it’s super fun and way easier on the body than BJJ and Muay Thai. * by a week in I mean 6 sessions not 7 days. More like two weeks that way

Oh snap!!! I made it into a Waltz video! So sick man feels like forever ago being on that tennis court. I've come such a long way since then. Whale tail is retired and The Champion is killin things for now! Thanks for the great boards, awesome videos and all the support for us beginners. You make freestyle so welcoming. I really appreciate that.

Wow! I never knew that there's a set up for freestyle! I'm personally a street/ park skater but I totally respect this discipline of skateboarding and It's always amazing to watch just as much as a street skateboarding clip!

I just got my Waltz set up a few weeks ago. It literally changed the way I skate. I usually do freestyle on a popsicle board, I never knew what i was missing. Single kick is where its at, it makes casper tricks soooo much easier, its night and day

For sure, i use to skate a popsicle deck but when I switched over to Freestyle decks I was in love! I recently got the champion by waltz, made an unboxing video too!!

Can I just say that your videos are criminally underviewed / underappreciated. Thank you for all the content. You constantly motivate me to skate and get better, even though I'm a really new skater and can't do any of the freestyle tricks yet.
@JohnAvillaHerpetocultural Жыл бұрын
I just started back up and decided to relearn street and also learn freestyle. I got a street set up with Andy Anderson wheels so I can still do freestyle and also got a freestyle setup to learn better. This is just my personal opinion and nothing against people who like them but I am not a fan of doing freestyle on a freestyle deck. It’s too cramped and just makes things unnecessarily difficult. FWIW I do not have big feet. Size 7US. I find that the extra length of a street deck is helpful and the concave and tail/nose angles don’t interfere at all. I think Rodney hit perfection when he designed the popsicle.

Wow freestyle is really cool too abit more mellow and shows more of the fun style of boarding than street skating which is more aggressive. Both are fun but wow didn't know you can learn more.

Street skater here: You haven't talked about trucks. What are the expectations on a good freestyle truck? For example, I'm riding Indys for the good carve, the grind feeling and the height. Also, do you consider popped Flip tricks to be freestyle tricks, even though I rarely see them done? Historically, Mullen invented them on his farm skating flatground only.
@DoitForTheLolz14 жыл бұрын
Good trucks are mid/tall trucks that come with hard bushings. super low/loose setups will be sketchy in rail especially without freestyle wheels. I'd say all street tricks are technically freestyle since street is a sub-category of freestyle already.
@abelsaft4 жыл бұрын
@@DoitForTheLolz1 thanks for the info! But I disagree on street being a subgenre. Skating stairs and grinding rails is not freestyle.

@@STICCPOKESTUDIOS that's a really nice board. I find it a bit small for my clown feet 😂 but I love doing endovers and stuff on it. It whips about really quick. Great for fast footwork and super stable in rail. I had a bit of trouble doing tailstop to heelside rail in the beginning but found using the nose instead helped a lot. I hope you have as much fun as I do! Welcome to the freestyle fam!

my lil bro has a 7.5 27.5" flat concave, symmetrical ninja turtles board and randomly i got on it yesterday and walk the dogs were way easier on that shape than my regular street board. pivoting just naturally shifts to my feet and the rail stand was way easier just because it was lower to the ground. basically, i understood why people freestyle in boards similar to that shape and size, even if i was on a toys r us board lol. RIP toys r us

are there any street/freestyle hybrid setup? Rather have 1 board than 2 for different tricks
@mike_osterman13 жыл бұрын
Good question. Waltz will offer an 8” freestyle deck soon. You can also put freestyle wheels and skid plates on a street board. I made a video about that ages ago. Gotta say though, a hybrid is never gonna be as comfy as a full on freestyle board. Street and freestyle just require such different boards

You might just need time to adjust. How long have you been on the 7.3? If you continue to struggle, you may want to consider sizing up or changing the style of board you’re riding. There are tons of freestyle shapes/sizes out there these days

People walk through the park & walk up to me all of the time while filming. When I’m not feeling 100% I’d rather have it on than scramble in my pocket every time someone walks up to say hi
