My friend she says that everything requires effort, time and stewardship and things we collect and that sit around even if we don't use them all the time are still things we must spend time maintaining and being a good steward of. Sometimes the simplest of things can be so stress free compared to things that occupy so much space that u must clean and monuveour around them.

I watched your last video about sleeping on a futon almost a full month ago and have also nearly been sleeping on the floor for a month. I started out with a yoga mat and folding 3 blankets and folded my throw and slept on that for 3 weeks before getting a foldable tatami mat and a futon (both from the same brand on amazon called 'Fuli', and have slept well for the first 2 nights so far). Haven't gotten rid of my bed yet as i have to wait a good few more weeks or months before i can fully convince my parents that I'm fully convinced and comfortable on the floor. If all goes to plan i will be able to have a huge amount of space in my room for the first time in my life as my whole floorspace has basically been taken up by my bed frame, desk and dresser/cabinet. The other benefit of sleeping on the floor (for me personally anyway) has been helpful and somewhat beneficial for my back pain. For reference im a young adult with hypermobility which possibly affectets my spine as well and have had back pain ranging from mild to sometimes more severe since i was a pre -teen, so i wasnt sure how sleeping on the floor would go for me. To my suprise its been a great experience so far as apart from like 3 times in the last 3/4 weeks i have woke up with minimal back pain for the first time in years. My back has felt better during the day as well so as of right now its been amazing. Also an added benefit ive noticed is that i fall asleep a lot faster or at least it seems like i do, i used to toss and turn like all night and was a cronic side sleeper, now i sleep almost exclusively on my back, with the occasional snozzing on my side in the morning for 30 mins before i get up . One more note to add is that i am overweight and i Haven't had really any serious discomfort if any, though im sure as i get healthier and leaner I'll find it an even smoother experience in the coming months as I'm on a weight loss journey at the moment as well 😉. Anyway this has been a very long winded way of saying thank you for posting your first video about sleeping on the floor its been so beneficial to me so far and hopefully will be a permanent switch in the coming months and i will hopefully save enough money to get a traditionally 100% cotton filled futon further down the line as the one i bought recently is mostly synthetic filling :/ Ps. Would love to know where you bought your futon from ( i am struggling to find authentic cotton filled ones or websites that have them from japan or other countries)

Im so happy that your experience with sleeping on the floor has been so positive so far! More space in the future and less back pain is definitely a huge win 🌸 I think the filling doesn’t really matter as long as you’re comfortable sleeping on it. Unless of course you want a natural material. ☺️ Mine is from Futonbedsfromjapan, i have the website linked in my description. All the best to you! ☀️

I got a duvet cover and put old blankets and batting in it and keeps everything together nicely. Someday I'll buy one. But I have 2 rolls of batting, 2 big comforters and stuffing from 2 pillows inside my duvet cover. I folded it all in half and folded my duvet cover in half and still stuffed it and doesn't come apart at all I folded it up everyday. I don't feel the floor but have the support and its actually sift and comfortable but just enough. I'm a side sleeper and do good with a small pillow for my knees or on occasion I put thin flat pillow under hip or ribs when I'm unwell (I have internal organ issues) but with my health i do very well and sleep better

My floor sleeping area and futon stay cleaner than my western bed or sleeping area. And u can vacuum under it which western bed u cnt and its better for allergies because u can clean more space around and under it and flip it over and around

I have heard there is a rug you can put under your tatami mats that helps keep dust mites and other insects like them away. Definitely something to check out

@Emily-jd9yp I wrote this a while ago when I was doing research and I can't remember what product I was talking out. Tatami mats and a futon dryer will do the trick tho

I had slept in diff bed than my husband for awhile because I was sick for few years. I slept on floor then too. But right now I sleep in a livingroom on the floor and he's in the bed. If we move I'll be making a nook area near the bedroom just for floor sleeping and in the day time used for other things or playroom for my grandchildren or lounge for my kids, a movie space for movie nights. But then I can sleep on the floor next to the bedroom but in day use it as extra space. We homeschool and a futon nook on raised floor wud be a cozy reading nook. For me it's wanting to manage my health and poor sleep and insomnia and If I don't sleep I'm still awake when he wakes up so not like much sleeping anyways and at a certain age a good night's sleep is very important. We can see each other while awake but sleeping is my intent or otherwise I'd not be on the floor. I have chronic fatigue, brain fog, circulation issues, inflammation, muscle, nerve, digestion problems and more. Getting every drop out of my time of rest is important. I usually wake exhausted and at minimum I'm atleast rested on the floor.

May be a silly question, but could I use this on my bed frame / Base? Basically, instead of using a mattress on my bed, could I use this instead on the bed? My reasons are I like the look of beds I wanted a specific style in my bedroom for my bed, thank you in advance for your reply :) Also have been thinking about finding better ways to sleep because I think my bed causes my back pain, my old mattress definitely did.

The futon will sink between the slats. Put some plywood sheets on your slats, or the tatami mats on your slats, then the futon on top.

hi! thank you for your videos, they’re helping my research very much :) i’ve been having trouble opening the futon amazon links you’ve listed, it might be because i’m in the US. is there another way i’d be able to find them on amazon? thanks!

I’ve had a few American made futons, some all cotton and some cotton around a foam core. They have been comfortable but fairly quickly develop a dip where I sleep, despite flipping and rotating them. I need to replace them after a couple of years. I’m curious whether this is simply the nature of cotton or whether the processing method used in the Japanese made futons will affect how long they remain comfortable. Any ideas? Thanks for your videos.
@drunkenhobo64
@drunkenhobo64 13 күн бұрын
All the American futons aren't Japanese-style shikibutons. American futons are just a bag stuffed with cotton, basically. Which means the stuffing just tends to move around and collect into lumps that are almost impossible to fix without cutting open the futon. Japanese shikibuton are made by taking layers of cotton batting that have been combed into something like sheets that are then layered together inside the mattress. This keeps the cotton from bunching up and creating those dips in the mattress. The cotton inside is held in place by the quilting stitches, so if those get broken, the cotton stuffing might start to move around though.

What if you don’t have a patio? Do you need to air it out outside?
@rachelpeham4800
@rachelpeham4800 3 ай бұрын
Ideally, yes, everyday. Best for desinfecting is strong sunshine on both sides for two hours. Gets a bit tricky during rainy season though. Find some where inside to air it out.

I have become irritated with my normal bed. Any recommendations on how i could try out floor sleeping before buying a futon? Just trying to figure out how to emulate a Fulton to see if i like it.
@itsjoyandrea
@itsjoyandrea 4 ай бұрын
Hii! I think the closest is to try either a hard mattress in a store or putting a lot of blankets on the floor and laying down on that. Perhaps they even have a Futon somewhere in a store? ☺️
@MichaelVash7886
@MichaelVash7886 4 ай бұрын
@@itsjoyandrea I don't know if anywhere somewhat nearby that would have a futon in store unfortunately. In the US futon generally means a small couch that turns into a bed. I believe the mattress is much thicker in those not like the ones you mentioned in the video. So I guess I will try some blankets and a yoga mat or something
