@@YouEatPlants I like that you made a video and shared your observations. I use both, but what i actually wanted to add is that i am less focused on what could go wrong, i don't think about the nutrients much anymore, there is still so much we do not know about so many processes in the body! And i am a fitness trainer and a massage therapist, i certainly know a bit...However, i choose to listen to my body, give it what it asks for and trust the process. What i mean is that i simply eat as many super foods as possible because i am aware that meat is not an option for me. I stopped eating meat about 20 years ago because i felt weak, lacking in energy, always needing sleep after meals, and feeling like i was getting even sicker every day. I was a teenager back then and i was aware of my food sensitivities even before that. As a very young child i've had to quit eating eggs(and not just store bought, also raw, from my grandmother, fresh from under the chick herself) cause i would always get allergies and eczema all over my body. Back to my point, what i've learned along the years is that the most important detail for me when choosing the right vitamins and super foods is their form and the way they were made. What do i mean by that? Capsules and powder form supplements, for example, are much better absorbed. Capsules are better if made of gelatin, as for powders, it is good for them to have been tested for toxic metals. My first overall point is that there are so many things to consider when buying supplements and super foods... honestly, it becomes an eternal learning process 😁. I also mean that it is great if you can make your super foods your go to meals, not just a now and then treat or treatment(example: i use Chlorella powder in my salad or in my home made dressing instead of taking chlorella pills; i eat plenty of nuts and seeds cause most of them are rich in selenium, copper, zinc, etc)...as in "make thy food thy medicine"...and one more thing: sometimes it is not the generic product that's the problem, but the manufacturer: the way it was processed or other weird additives meant to prolong the shelf life of the product. So i check the labels well and whenever possible, i buy directly from the source or from a trusted manufacturer(example: i buy raw honey directly from the family making it, even if it costs more; i buy Chlorella powder from a local manufacturer who makes the powder in Germany, where laws are very strict, products are tested for dangerous metals and they are labelled accordingly). Sending good vibes your way, may we all be healthy and joyful!😊

Great! 👍 Yes, for those with an iron deficiency, there can be some benefit to Spirulina to increase iron levels. In this study, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8577024/ it was not quite a miracle cure, but it did help some with some individuals, with the rate of recovery from intervention increasing from about 5 in 100 to about 15 in 100 with Spirulina added. (Not quite a miracle cure, but it did seem to have some positive impacts on certain responders, and can be useful for those iron deficient and in need of something, and could be worth a try) Blessings

All you have to do is take spirulina apart from the B12 rich food. If you take chlorella or eat eggs (which have B12) at 8:00, take spirulina at 12:00, when the B12 receptors are already occupied by the real one. B vitamins are water soluble, they don't stay there too long, need replenishing real fast, so the B12 receptors won't be occupied by the analogue long enough to make you deficient if you also get enough B12, you'll get deficient if you ONLY try to get B12 from spirulina and nothing else, and if that's the case, no shit! 🙄. And also, all nutritional yeast that has B12 in it is fortified with synthetic vitamins, which aren't as well absorbed by the body. It's best to get non-fortified nutritional yeast for all other B vitamins (from B1 to B9), and chlorella or eggs for B12. The only B vitamin that has been proven to be best absorbed in the synthetic form, is Benfotiamine, AKA the synthetic B1, because they were able to make it fat soluble, and therefore it gets much deeper into the tissues.

Dr. Klaper does say something similar, he says if you absolutely still insist on taking spirulina, to at least take breaks and only take it half the days of the week, and eat your B12 on the days you aren't taking spirulina. Another concern about spirulina is the neurotoxin issue, and also heavy metal contamination. So I would just take Chlorella and skip the Spirulina (which is what I do know) Chlorella has been found to be safer, to have the real B12 which raises B12 levels in studies on humans (so you don't have to even worry about cycling it), and it provides the same benefits as spirulina, but even more, since it has a better nutritional profile. Here's more on why it's better and why I started it kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHLciaeJr7yKjJo It's basically very similar to spirulina, even smells and tastes like it, but is better, so I would just take that by itself without spirulina. You would get all the same positive benefits (and more) without the cycling or worrying about potential side effects. Just my opinion.😃 (Oh, and I started taking a multi for B12 as well as the Chlorella, and also some plant-based milks have it fortified) Thanks for watching and commenting!

I used to buy Spirulina from a company that imported it from China or USA, the problem was that during the drying process, it was put under heavy temperatures while being in the spray dryer, and thus it adopted a fish-like smell due to the fatty acids being altered due to high temperatures, and the flavor was not tasty either, on top of that I had the dizziness that you mentioned and stopped taking it. I started growing my own spirulina a year ago and dry it at low temperatures (35 °C) and the flavor and smell are super different, I would strongly suggest buying spirulina from local farms that acknowledge this problem and process it at low temperatures.

Depends on the doctor, my wife is a doctor and takes more supplements than me 😂 We are all for natural supplements and foods, ginger, tumeric, ashwaganhda, etc. The problem that I’ve seen is most people will want a magic bullet or pill to fix their problems rather than doing the harder work of eating a clean whole food plant-based diet and exercise. So people want to believe in these supplements and that they will do more for them than they will and the supplement companies prey on that and market things to them, Spirulina being one of the most expensive. (There’s also the placebo effect that people can feel that I won’t get into). But Spirulina that you buy off the shelf unfortunately is not completely natural, it is manufactured and processed from its original form (and maybe grown in unnatural conditions). There was a guy who commented on here, that he grew his own Spirulina and it’s quite different than what you buy (like a paste) and it may be the drying out of it to sell that causes the analogues to form. I’m all for Spirulina if you can grow your own, I would just question what you buy in the store or online. I took Spirulina and felt no difference, however I eat clean on a whole food plant-based diet, and that has made me feel way better, more than any supplements ever have. Hope this makes sense and good luck with whatever you do friend 🙂

I do think that Spirulina has benefits and I don’t negate those, but there is a potential drawback, and I think it’s something to definitely consider. I think that truly natural Spirulina grown by someone would be wonderful to have. But, for me, the manufactured spirulina has too strong of a potential risk if that’s true. There are plenty of other healthy foods or even more natural supplements that can give just as good results and are cheaper, so just trying to help. Some people get very passionate about spirulina, and I’m not sure why? I don’t 100% know the answer to this, since there aren’t any studies or anything on it, so I’m not completely against Spirulina, I just think it’s good to look at these things as it’s something that concerns me if it’s true. And by the way, I never said there was anything wrong with taking a supplement, it’s generally that a lot of people will hold a belief that a supplement will fix more problems than it actually does. Good thoughts here. I've heard the same reasoning about B12 concerning it's analogues but have not been able to find any actual papers on the spirulina lowering serum B12, only the concerns. Are you talking about the typical powdered form here? I've been growing it in my own bioreactors for seven years now and only eat the fresh paste. I eat 25 grams twice a day now for three years. I do get regular blood work and have not come up deficient yet. I do not take any B12 supplements but do eat a largely vegan with occasional meats. My first experience with the bacteria called Spirulina in it's powdered form during my days on the Gerson therapy. It smelled fishy and tasted not so great. I figured out that the smell/taste was decomposing odors. It is a lot of work to grow it for ones self so I have expanded to 16,000 liters from the original 400 and now provide it to around 60 people in my area. Many of whom are either cancer or Alzheimer's or some sort of demensia. I'm not saying it cure's anything but most are experiencing some profound positive quality of life. A clarity of mind, sharper, more present. I know I do. If you have some sort of study on the B12 analogue, I would like to know about it because, other than viewpoints, I have not found anything. Thank you

It seems like you are taking a pure form of spirulina which sounds very interesting! Also it’s interesting that the powder form you say has the smell because it might have gone bad! Maybe that would cause differences in the nutrients? I do think that spirulina is over touted and manufactured as a supplement, which you could get the same nutrients and benefits from other plant-based foods and sources at a cheaper cost. It’s interesting that you grow spirulina and it is a different substance than they sell! Makes you think! I’m open to any kind of studies or new information! @@YouEatPlants Thank you for the response. I've seen that write up on B12 and as yourself, many people use it and direct it towards spirulina as a definitive problem. The links in the article also do not single out spirulina but only talk generally about lack of B12. Still, I am left with the question, "where is the evidence". I can certainly agree with the casual causality implied towards spirulina, just the same way, I make the statements that my experience is not so. Kinda reminds me of the off label drug uses for covid and how the media quashed those narratives. B12 has always been an issue with vegans to begin with. I've come to the general understanding that B12 comes from the gut. Either our own or others, meaning animals. I only began eating meats again since I built my farm and practice biodynamics which incorporate animal manures. If I don't raise it or hunt it, I do not eat it. I guess the same goes for spirulina. I'll go back to your statement of "it's not worth the risk" and ask "based on what proof?". If the article stated that there were no definitive study on spirulina yet, would we still feel the same? Thanks again.

@@babaluto I don’t really understand the way B12 works either, but there is something called nutritional yeast that is plant-based and has B12 somehow. For me, I don’t really believe in “miracle” supplements or foods, but rather just eating a Whole Food Plant-Based diet for health. This way you are getting the benefits of many plants. So in this sense I think Spirulina is a little over hyped as far as being something to cure all your ailments. Im not opposed to spirulina if it can be proved to not have any adverse effects. It sounds like you have a special form of spirulina that is not the same thing being sold as a packaged supplement, so I’m sure there maybe something very unique to that. Most of what I heard about regular spirulina was from doctors who explained how the “psuedo B12” will block the absorption of regular B12. Whether this is true or not, I would rather not risk having a possible B12 deficiency, until it can be proved otherwise to have no effect. To me, that’s why I say the risk outweighs the benefits. Also, B12 deficiencies are tricky because they can take years and sometimes 5-10 years to show symptoms. But I’m open to any new research. Thanks for the response! 😀

@@YouEatPlants Thank you again. I agree with your conclusions as a measure of caution. This is the type of discussions that help folks understand how to think for themselves rather than being told what to think. More to think about: In the article of the link you sent, below is a part near the end which I found interesting. "Interesting results are also obtained from algae, which show that the fresh plant contains real B12, while the dried plant contains analogues only (2). The process of drying the plant seem to lead to chemical reactions which decompose the vitamin content." So when it comes to your understanding about commercially processed spirulina, your are absolutely 100% correct. Stay away. They are referring to the hot spray method of drying the product into the powders versus the fresh version. As a grower, what I've learned is that the powder/pill/capsule form is a "supplement" whereas the fresh version is considered a "food". One is processed, the other is not. So, would you like your garden salad in a lump of powder or fresh? Same thing with the spirulina. The first time I took spirulina back in 1989, it was part of an anti-cancer diet. I was instructed to tale no more than 3-4 grams at a time, because beyond that, the effects would negate themselves. I hated it back then and was happy to quit it. The only reason I began to grow it was to feed my chickens a non-synthetic boost of the protein methionine which. This was due to the fact that they allow the synthetic form in "organic" animal feeds for the past 15 years. Also, in the article you referred to, there is mention of "paper chromatography" which was made popular in the presentation of bio-dynamic practices by Rudolf Steiner back in 1924. This chromatography is used to comparitivly show the difference in the "life force" of different foods. For example, commercial pasteurized apple juice to organic apple juice to bio-dynamically grown apple juice. The relative differences are nothing short of astonishing, with organic being not much better than commercial. This just shows us how much the soils we grow in matter. The same was true when I tested the different spirulina forms. The fresh was off the chart. And by the way, the fresh lasts about the same amount of time in fridge as a head of lettuce. I realize the discussion seems to come down to a degree of semantics but it is good to define what is being talked about. Pretty much all of the studies about spirulina do not delineate this. Our foods, to me, are a spiritual experience and have no real place in politics that define them, like the government owned term "organic". My background comes from the first CSA in the US. Peace!

Might want to rethink your nutritional yeast as 95% of it on the market is artificially sprayed with the inferior form of B12 which is cyanocobalamin. This is why nutritional yeast is so yellow and will get peed out and colors the urine yellow. I recommend Matt Monarch's nutrional yeast which is the rare type that is not sprayed and I also suggest Global Healings' B12 which is methyl, adenosyl, & hydroxo forms of b12.

Ok thanks. I’ve since then started taking Chlorella, which is better than Spirulina and has active B12 in it, which has been proven in human studies to actually raise B12 levels. I also take a multi, and plant-based milks are usually fortified with a lot of B12 as well, so I think I should be good 😊 Thanks for watching and letting me know!

Cyanocobalamin is the b12 that is most studied. The others make superior claims, but Cyanocobalamin is the one that is known to work scientifically. It's not artificial coloring that get peed out. Its the b vitamins that are in the nutritional yeast. B vitamins are known to turn pee more yellow.

Here's my summary here of why I switched kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHLciaeJr7yKjJo and a longer comparison of Spirulina vs Chlorella at kzbin.info/www/bejne/roS9nniqZd6Eis0 There are a small number of people who do have allergic reactions to Spirulina who will have the same allergic reaction with Chlorella, but it doesn't sound like you necessarily had this, because you were taking it for years before. I think in those cases they will have an instant reaction the first time they take it. (But I'm not an expert or medical professional, so proceed with caution at your own risk!) Dear YEP, I really think the mechanism is far more complex than that. There are no extensive clinical trials that may correlate spirulina intake with b12 deficiency (the very few ones often state the exact opposite, indeed). It's also been questioned whether the intrinsic factor for b12 (the protein that "hooks" b12 as a preliminary phase for its methabolism) as any affinity towards the pseudo.
@YouEatPlants Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I've provided some resources from doctors on the psuedo-B12 in the updated description. I've also started taking Chlorella instead, as it has more benefits, is safer, and doesn't have the issues of psuedo-B12. The only studies I know of on Spirulina and B12 was involving mice or rats, which is not conclusive, since many times studies on mice do not act the same way for humans. There are however, at least two studies on Chlorella involving humans where B12 levels were actually found to increase with Chlorella intake (meaning the B12 is an active B12, and is not blocking any B12 absorption). I discuss all of this in detail in my video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/roS9nniqZd6Eis0 Thanks for watching and commenting!
@blardomodica Жыл бұрын
Hi YEP, and thanks to you for taking the time to reply. I watched that video from dr Klaper some months ago, and I definitely agree that's the main point and concern about spirulina. Having a b12 deficiency is HORRIFIC! My point would be that there're no conclusive studies (at least to my knowledge) that may imply any affinity of our receptors for the pseudo. My personal experience is 30 grams (!!!) of spirulina intake per day since more than a year ago. And I've never been better in my life (blood tests wise, of course!). You're totally right that chlorella is far better as a source of b12, since its one is the right one. Besides, chlorella seriously sucks in anything else! Its membrane is cellulose, thus making its cytoplasm and thus the bioavailability of its nutrients pretty much zero to humans, unless it's the "cracked membrane" version. Plus, that membrane carries various additional concerns. Nutrients in spirulina instead are crazily bioavailable. Concerns about cyanotoxins are legit. Microcystins are really dangerous. But that's why you wanna PAY for your spirulina. The one done in safe environments carries little to no cyanotoxins at all. But that will never be the cheap supermarket solution. That one could perfectly be cultured in sewage waters without any care for providing the right environment for its correct growth. It really comes down to this simple rule: cyanotoxins are emitted when cells are under attack. When the culture conditions are safe, Y TOXINS??? 😉 Thank you for focusing on algaes. I'm totally convinced they're the best nano-factories for nutrients, far better than any other solution.
@YouEatPlants Жыл бұрын
@@blardomodica Thanks for responding. The chlorella that we take and that I always see sold is always the "cracked cell wall" ones, so I don't think that's a concern. The studies on chlorella have shown tremendous benefits in humans, so it does seem to be absorbed and bioavailable to humans. Also, it has a better nutritional profile than spirulina, it provides Omega-3s, as well as 5 times the iron, and active B12. Studies have found it to have good results for improving iron and B12 levels, in human subjects, so this seems to me that it's definitely bioavailable and having really good effects for humans. But if you are comfortable with what you have, all the best to you 👍 Thanks for watching! Have a great day!

@@YouEatPlants Not sure about the nutritional profile being better with chlorella. I love in England and I seen a video a while back covering the benefits of spirulina and just today I was at a shopping store and saw it on the shelf, I would not have brought it but it has the organic soil association marking and as that is "supposed" to be organic certified I thought I would get some it's in a powdered form a Morrison's brand, and I know that the spirulina is not easy to get, so that's why I am on here now, as you pointed out in another comment above, we can't really trust what we are buying in the supermarkets, and unless we were actually there when this is produced then we really don't know what's really in it, seeing as most people would never usually come across it, we would know i f it wasn't spirulina? And seeing as they seem to have been putting insects in powdered products without our consent I might add! It has made me more wary of what I eat. I did try to go vegetarian, and felt loads better, not heavy in my body, but after a few years I lost all my muscle fat and lost to much weight, I stopped eating meat as I thought it would help with the health issues I had been experiencing throughout my life, but Naomi just eat some chicken from a local organic butcher's. I don't think we can trust the food industry as I know for a fact they are using ingredients that are toxic and very harmful to our health. Such as aspartame, a company producing "family friendly, no additives or preservatives, front cordial drink, which I had been drinking for years, until I found out about the aspartame and that it was In the drink I had been ingesting, over a long period. I had developed internal abscesses which I found out was what happened to the mice which they tested the aspartame on, they developed abscesses and huge cancerous lumps and died!!! Yet the FDA saw the company who created the substance out of the vaper of a fresh poop!!!!I Had not been fully transparent in their revealing of the test results on the mice. But then the company who !are the aspartame some how got a job at the FDA, and then he approved the aspartame. Then he got sacked and then he got a job working for the lawyers of the company that made the aspartame. So I think your being wise in what you were saying, unless we have the equipment to test and see what's actually in the product we are consuming we don't know what we're ingesting unless we grow it ourselves. And the system we are living in is doing its up most to stop us from being self sufficient.

I would like to see someone post the PubMed studies showing that spirulina is neurotoxic, and I don't mean under certain conditions, or once and awhile, etc. If this natural food is so toxic, let's see the studies proving it. So far, the BMAA and other mycrocystins that can be neurotoxins has been shown to not be in spirulina based on the 1999 study by Health Canada. I keep an open mind, but right now all this negative talk is not being substantiated, sans anecdotal reports.
@YouEatPlants Жыл бұрын
I know that Dr. Michael Greger has looked at a lot of research on this. Here, it says health concerns include potential risk of muscle breakdown, liver cancer, and liver toxicity. Indeed, 94 percent of samples were reported to be contaminated with hepatotoxic microcystin toxins, and a potent neurotoxin appears to have been found in spirulina supplements, as well. nutritionfacts.org/topics/spirulina/ Here is says that although it was deemed to not have a health concern from what was tested at the time, there is a concern with how spirulina is grown, which could cause contamination. nutritionfacts.org/blog/toxin-contamination-of-spirulina-supplements/ I don't know, I just prefer Chlorella. Until something comes out showing a safety concern for it, I see no point in taking Spirulina over Chlorella, considering I can get it at the same or cheaper price than Spirulina. I noticed no difference from taking spirulina, absolutely none. I did notice a difference however from eating whole food plant-based, as well as also from intermittent fasting. The message was why I stopped Spirulina (personally). I personally think it’s overhyped and expensive. I think if you eat a healthy diet, you will get the same or more benefits. At the same time, there are some potential side effects, that make it even more so not worth it for me. Spirulina was studied as a possible good choice for astronauts, due to their limited choices of food in space. For someone in this situation it’s probably great, but for people with access to more food options, I think it’s not so beneficial. Just my thoughts and experience. I’m glad you got a positive result👍 Also, consider the potential of the “placebo” effect, which for some people is very strong. In studies on this, doctors have told patients they would operate on them, but never did, just pretended to, yet the patients reported being healed of whatever was ailing them. The same effect is found with food and medications (people feeling better from taking sugar pills). Just something to consider and a possibility! I was just documenting why I stopped Spirulina, not as a negative message against it, but maybe more so a negative message against some of the overhyped beliefs people have gained over it. ✌️

If it is 100 percent all natural with no added ingredient it has many health benefits depending on the person using it . 🤔 Does not work for everyone depending on their health. We are all different. 🤔 Some people can be allergic or very sensitive to it . 🤔 I personally would rub a little bit of this on my arm leave it for 24 hours and see if there is a reaction to your skin before ingesting this or placing this on your teeth. 🤔 I am personally going to use it in my homemade toothpaste. They say it helps bring oxygen and give extra minerals to your body . 🤔 Also it tastes horrible . 😮 It can upset people's stomachs years ago I tried this and made me vomit and never tried it again but this time I'm making a dry toothpaste out of it I am not going to ingesting it. 🤔👍 Going to use some certified organic spirulina . 🤔 Going to use some coconut fiber charcoal. 🤔 Going to use some baking soda .🤔 Going to use some pure real salt .🤔 Going to use some real mint and peppermint powder.🤔 Going to use some real cinnamon powder .🤔 Going to use some real clover powder to help with toothaches . 🤔 Going to use either some of my dry egg shells grind it up into a powder for calcium. Or I will purchase some calcium powder. 🤔 You can also use some food grade clay.🤔 You can use essential and organic and pure oil for the mint and peppermint .🤔 But I am making a dry version of this .🤔 Maybe I will make a paste one two . 🤔 All you need to do with that is add some pure organic coconut oil . 🤔 There is so many different recipes out there. 😮 They say you can also use some . 🤔 Fulvic Acid .🤔 Boron Citrate . 🤔 Shilajit .🤔 Chlorophyll . 🤔 Chlorella . 🤔 Strontium. 🤔 Peppermint .🤔 Baking soda.🤔 Real salt. 🤔 Real Cinnamon.🤔 Powdered cloves. 🤔 Calcium powder. 🤔 Pure food grated clay.🤔 Organic and pure coconut oil. I know this is a lot of ingredients but we'll last you a lifetime . 🙂 And I heard the ingredients are really healthy for your teeth. 🤔😃🤔 Better than the toothpaste being sold with poisonous fluoride which is a byproduct waste and kills rats so what do you think it does to you. Fluoride is in many products why do you think it's there. 🤔😮🤔 It is in our water system unnecessary and dangerous. The dentist gives fluoride to our children when cleaning their teeth why. 🤔 Fluoride is in our mouthwash why .🤔 Stay away from anything that says fluoride .🤔 It is not safe to consume or use .🤔😮🤔 Look this information up .🤔 A powerful and rich person who owns manufacturing company produces this as a waste product add gets rid of it by adding it to everything we use why. 🤔 Fluoride does not harden your teeth but actually softens it. Fluoride is actually in many different types of poisonous items used to kill bugs and rodents why would anyone want to use it . 🤔 So make sure you buy fluoride free toothpaste if you need for your children's sake. 🤔 Or make your own organic toothpaste . 🤔 But make sure you read the reviews when you are purchasing the ingredients to make sure they are 100% natural and safe .🙂 This is my personal opinion and what I have read and heard in KZbin and other places . 🤔 I am not a doctor or a scientist but a wife and a mother and a grandmother who wants to keep my family safe . 😍😃😍 I wish I knew about fluoride years ago. 🤔😮🤔 I wish I knew about reading the reviews before purchasing. 🤔 Make sure to stay safe and healthy. 😃 Make sure you are financially stable as well make sure you are prepped in case of emergencies .🤔 Make sure to store up your seed supply so you can grow your own vegetables and fruit. Make sure to stock up on medical supply just in case of emergency as well as clean water .🤔 Make sure to let your voice be heard when you are voting. And make sure you are voting for the right people for the right reasons .🤔 God in heaven and the Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on us all and God in heaven protect and hear our prayers. 🙏🙂🙏 God bless the American people and the poor innocent animals in this world .🙏

Have you considered changing the brand of your spirulina. Different types of culture when grown in various conditions produce algae with varying nutrients. For eg; if it gets less sunlight while growing, it will produce less of certain chemicals (like the vitamin B12).

Spirulina is not a food because it grows in water sources? What? So fish is not a food because it grows in the water? What is the logic behind that. Anything that is nutritious and sustains the body is considered food unless it is toxic and causes unacceptable side effects that are detrimental to health and wellness, like for example sugar or alcohol.
@YouEatPlants Жыл бұрын
Ok, let’s be fair. It’s an algae/bacteria thing. Let’s call it a supplement. Anything people take to supplement their health, and not as something they eat to survive (in large enough quantities and as a source of calories) we can label a “supplement “. What is sugar if it’s not a food?
@ArcheNova1resistance5 ай бұрын
Sugar in small amounts from a natural, high fibre source together with minerals that occur naturally in fruits, natural grains or vegetables that have not been processed or chemically or genetically alterated are food. But white or industrial sugars, isolated, extracted, modified or genetically modified are a dangerous neurotoxin. More than 60 percent of Americans are diabetic or prediabetic. Diabetes is a deadly metabolic disease that leads to death if untreated. The main culprit being unnatural, processed sugars. Spirulina is an historical staple food of the precolumbian Aztec Indians in Mexico who mixed it with corn flour. Alcohol and alcoholic beverages cause more deaths than any other form of social drug. Clearly these are deadly poisons and not foods. Spirulina is a food and contains four times the protein in dry matter than beef. And without the hormones, antibiotics and industrial poisons and toxic metabolites found in midern day meats. But Moringa is possibly a better, less controversial supplement than Spirulina. I think more research is needed. High prices or inferior quality is often the main drawback. But sourced carefully Spirulina definitely can have its benefits in nutrition as a supplement rather than a staple food i think.

Hey Harry! Thanks for watching and hopefully I can help! So I did a whole episode on this (spirulina vs chlorella) at kzbin.info/www/bejne/roS9nniqZd6Eis0 which might answer a lot of your questions. (I go very in depth) In the description of that video and this one as well, I've provided some links to issues and concerns from doctors about spirulina. There is even more evidence against spiurlina safety, but I just added a few links. Dr. Michael Greger, who is highly respected and does a lot of research in the whole food plant-based field, has many concerns about spirulina, and he says he threw his spirulina away and never looked back. That being said, he says that chlorella is safe to take, and he even takes it himself instead of spirulina now. I respect his opion on it. I've also started taking chlorella after seeing all of the benefits it offers, backed by studies and research. It seems to be better than spirulina in its nutritional content, for one. (But if you watch my video I linked to above, I explain this in more depth) So overall, for me it seems that chlorella is a much better alternative to spirulina. As far as nutritional yeast, Dr. Greger also really likes that as well and there are some good studies on some of the nutritional yeast benefits as well. So that's another good option to add in addition to chlorella (I use both) Hope this helps! Let me know any questions friend!

Your argument for quitting spirulina is nonsense. The B12 absorption competition, assuming it is real, will only happen if you try to digest both types of B12 AT THE SAMETIME. If you sprinkle spirulina overyour eggs, yes, you might end up having B12 absorption competition and you might have less real B12 absorption, but only for that morning while you try to digest both at the same time. But if you add spirulina to your morning vegan smoothie, you will NOT have any competition because you are not having any real animal origin B12. At lunch time, after you end your pseudo B12 digestion, you're ready to digest your lunch animal B12. And at dinner time, again you can digest your animal B12 without any problem. Plus, you don't need to eat that much animal protein to have enough B12, that is the reason no one (except strict vegans) have B12 deficiency, and they may have that deficiency after months or years of being vegans because B12 can be stored for years in the liver. With that B12 buffer in the liver, there is NO problem skipping animal protein any now and then, or even for some weeks. If you eat spirulina all day long, yes, you might end up having B12 digestion competition, and you might digest less, but not necessarily end up with B12 deficiency, because some will be digested, and we don't need that much. Having spirulina at breakfast and real animial B12 at luch or dinner is a perfect way to avoid this B12 absorption competition, without skipping all the valuable spirulina benefits.
@YouEatPlants10 ай бұрын
There is still a good amount of B12 deficiencies found in meat eaters, mainly because meat is not a great source of B12. B12 used to come mainly from drinking water and soil, but with modern day pesticides and farming practices and also having to sanitize water, we’ve lost our main source. So much so that farm animals have to be injected with B12 shots now. There are other concerns with Spirulina and toxicity and how it’s grown, if you look at the description I’ve provided links. I’ve found something called Chlorella, which is similar to Spirulina but doesn’t have the same toxicity concerns, has actually been found to have real B12 that actually has raised B12 levels of humans in studies, and has a better nutritional profile than spirulina, and has outperformed Spirulina in a head to head study. Hello, in my opinion, you should eat spirulina for the protein (phycocyanine), iron and betacaroténe, it's really good for microbiota balance but for b12 just a little part is assimilate, it is not enough for vegan people.
@YouEatPlants Жыл бұрын
Spirulina is not a great source of total protein, as you will only get about 2 grams of protein per day from a regular dose (a very small fraction of your daily protein intake). As far as iron, there is a better source of iron (5 times as much) in Chlorella, and you get just as much protein from it, and it does not mess with your B12 absoprtion. (Spirulina has psuedo-B12 which blocks regular B12 absorption. See the link in the description where Dr. Klaper discusses this) Chlorella on the other hand has been found to actually have active B12 and has increased B12 levels in human subjects in studies.
