i think a good way to summarise it is that most video essays play all their cards and say everything they wanted to without room for viewer input whereas you're trying to start a conversation directly with your audience and giving them room to join in even if it means you can't cover all your bases at once most essays feel like they're talking AT the viewer whereas you're trying to communicate with and talk TO us

I somehow never realized the timer tied into the conversation aspect too, haha. I actually think that’s really important and special. It feels like listening and respect are dying arts these days, and not just in this corner of the internet. No one will learn, and nothing will improve if people don’t talk. No one is an anomaly that can’t be understood, because everyone has their reasons and experiences. Hate cannot destroy hate, only love can. (man this got really deep wth)

Hearing your reasons for why you chose to do this style of content is very endearing. You're clearly passionate about media and I think it's sweet that you want to use the skills that you've learned to help those inspired by general media as well as creating a positive change in Sonic discussion. These videos have definitely helped me become more understanding of different perspectives, but also find joy in talking about Sonic again, especially on a deeper and analytical level. Never had any problems with this format tbh. The short duration keeps it focused and easy to digest the information you present. While I can agree that it does feel like you're rushing towards the end of the video at times, it never got to the point where it was a detriment imo. The points you make are relatively clear and anything that's confusing can be cleared up in the comments for those who want further clarification. Overall, this content is just refreshing. Encouraging others to share their thoughts and letting the discussion be community driven is a sick idea. Your curious and creative mind is the driving force behind all this. It's gonna be interesting to see how this content evolves over time. Keep up the great work dude, these discussions have been a blast!

I like your content and your format, I like how it works and even for me I personally feel like it helps. I sometimes have the issue of not knowing what to do, how to approach things, what to talk about, but the way you just focus on a thing and go over it and leave it for the community to provide their input is very good, so props for all of that Evan

Mardic, you’re cool. This way about your channel is your way to give back to the community. Emphasis on ‘your way’. Don’t hurt yourself for others or even for your own sake. You are doing wonders getting people to hear you and your side of being a Sonic fan. :)

something i've always liked about this format is that its brief enough to be bite sized and easy to digest, but it still enough to leave you with something to think about. its amazing how much insightful information you're able to pack into such a short amount of time. and while more time may be more beneficial to get points across, i think that's where live streams are most effective, as they act as less of content and more of a long-form discussion or communication. and in that scenario, having more time to explain your thoughts similar to a conversation is key

I fully agree with this! And it gives Mardic a unique style to his livestreams too!

I discovered your channel around the early 2010s. You have done everything that got me hooked. Fandubs, parodies, covers, art, like seriously you are so amazingly talented. It made so happy to see back on here with these 5 minute discussion topics. I really do like these new video series because there is a lot of to talk about. There were even stuff I didn't know about the series that you made me open my mind about it. I will continue to support whatever you got planned for the future.

This is a really cool idea, it allows for the conversation to feel more open instead of just listening to one’s thoughts on something. I appreciate this cause I feel like it can help everyone learn something they might not have known about or just learn about each other in general.

I like the idea of having an ongoing conversation. To many people really talk down on us and think they know better when it is actually not black and white. Everyone has different opinions and I think it's great to get them out there. Everyone should be heard as long as we're respectful about it.

The dialogue approach to teaching is also WAY more effective than straight lecturing, evidence suggests that students learn much more from discussions and teaching each other. That's why more classes are shifting to flipped classrooms and small group settings where students at tables can have conversations over the material. So your philosophy is backed by research!
@kaistudios5536Күн бұрын
Like you always say, this is a discussion, and to get the most out of a discussion, both parties need to interact with one another. Besides your formatting being unique on KZbin, it provides more realism to these conversations. Along with being a space where you can agree & disagree, it allows for people to expand/explore on things they might not have before. This is what I love KZbin for the most; to *Teach, Inspire, and Entertain.* I'm excited to hear more from you Evan! Also, would you consider ever talking about your opinions on Classic Sonic as a whole? I'd be quite intrigued to hear your thoughts on how Sonic Team's been handling it!

You know, I've been lurking for some time but I quite enjoy the timer format tbh. It does keep videos short, which ie nice! But it allows you to be as concise as possible with the points your bring and encourage audience participation up, and i appreciate that! I've actually adopted a similar format, inspired by you, where i record myself talking about a topic, then posting in on my close friends Instagram story. Instagram stories is only a minute long, so i have to be SUPER concise. But, ive noticed from your videos and doing my own, that limiting myself to a set amount of minutes, actually helps me make my points clearly. So, thank you and keep up the good work! (Some of the topics you've covered, ive found to be very interesting!

I do like the timer idea. It kinda feels like your way of experimenting. Especially since you’ve done so many other things before. It’s like a way for you to start something brand new as a new KZbinr but without having to grow a following as you’ve already done that. Like you are very passionate about doing things without having to follow the conventional rules that everyone else does. Make up your own rules and stick to it. At least until you feel like moving on to a new creative idea that challenges yourself to think outside the box because the best way to come out with something new for the world is to let the force of nature emerge as a result of giving your all in something, collectively, without knowing what the hell we’re actually doing. That’s the impression I get. Which may be right or wrong but I imagine it probably doesn’t matter, like Sonic’s theme song suggests. As long as different perspectives are presented to create a collab piece.

When you first started this format I was really skeptical. You definitely seemed rushed, but not in a good way where your points were less clear and it was harder to comment a response. You’ve gotten better at summarizing your thoughts quickly while still leaving room for elaboration and I’ve really enjoyed the last few videos. I think what you’re doing here is absolutely necessary. When I was using Twitter more regularly, I would see the same echo chamber opinions over and over, and I had completely opposite views. I tried (probably ineffectively) to disrupt that by being way out there with my other views but I’d always be shut down. Like you said, people don’t really listen to each other very much in this community. I hope this starts a bigger trend of people being more open and willing to explain why they believe what they do without judgement.
@partyjamsКүн бұрын
if it works for you and you enjoy it that's all that matters. Personally it wouldn't work too well for me. If I tried it then I'd like do multiple takes of a limited time. After all it's not live so then I can get as many points in as possible. Anyway you asked for suggestions so I'll toss some out. tl;dr at the bottom Besides the time limit, the other inherent limitation is there's only so many follow ups you can make before a conversation starts to drag on too much. So I'd set a hard limit on that too if you don't have one. Maybe three is good. Of course you can always revisit a topic when appropriate. But that'll be a somewhat fresh start to the conversation. Now casual conversation don't usually have a structure to them but since realistically this isn't exactly that a general one isn't a bad thing to implement. I've notice you've been doing that slowly over time with intros and quick thoughts at the start. Very good additions. Recaps like you did here was also nice. I feel like these don't need to be timed since they bookend the video. As commentor I like it when specific questions are asked of me. Of course in a causal conversation you can focus on whatever aspect you want. But in an active discussion where learning is the goal, focusing on specific questions gives us a good starting point if we don't have one. I think it would also help with engagement. After all some people will just listen but be unsure what to say back. Or they may not have too much they have in mind. A specific question will drive them to think of an answer. Last point, and maybe this breaks from the format too much, using a pinned comment may be helpful too. You can decide how to make use of that. Here's what I suggest. But beside clarifications if confusion pops up, maybe you can either bring up something that's being discussed amongst the comments or a point you found interesting there that isn't being discussed enough. Effectively helping guide the conversation. Again maybe that isn't quite how you want this back and forth to work. I just feel it's a tool that can be used. tl;dr Suggestions: limit the number of follow up videos, more structure would make these time efficient (intro, summary, recap, etc), ask specific questions you want answered, and use pinned comments to direct post video discussions (or in other ways).

@@pugman9672 I appreciate you explaining! I for sure do not want to stress anyone out! I'll think on this but showing the timer has it's benefits.. I sort of want to encourage the back and forth/self-limiting idea. Do you think it's a bad stressful, or potentially beneficial? Hey, Mardic, another comment on Something Paramount related. Spongebob is on Fortnite. Sonic Prime, a netflix original, is on Hulu and Nickelodeon. Sonic 3 is in 3 days from today. If Paramount Sega and Netflix give the green light to with Movie Sonic or Prime Sonic to be in Fortnite, think of the possibilities we would have for even Unreal Engine Sonic games and media to expand Sonic lore. Huh? Huh? :D
