I think combat should work similar to say crash bandicoot but more "speedy". I think frontiers had a lot of the right ideas but I feel it's not cartoonish enough in it's animations for me to really adore it. Interaction is also really important, if it's to cinematic what's the point of even putting it there. If you want combat done right, elden ring is where it's at.

TBH, I don't care who voices Sonic anymore, I'm over the whole Ryan Drummond, Jason Griffith, Roger Craig Smith and Devan Mack Jr. thing and just care more about Gameplay and Controls when it comes to Sonic games, after the drama with an unhinged Sonic fanboys who expressed his hatred for Jason Griffith and made angry rant videos on him and wished de*th on him so Ryan Drummond can get the role back, people turned on him by mid to late 2008 because of sh*t like that (not going to name this person but I'm sure you know who this individual is unless if they say something about me in public.) I remember when Sega announced that Roger Craig Smith was going to voice Sonic and at the time Kate Higgins was going to voice Tails and Mike Pollock was going to stay as Dr. Eggman in Sonic Colors, I really didn't care, the only thing I cared about was how good was Sonic Colors going to play, that was on my mind, same when Sonic Prime was going to have a Canadian cast (because of how weird Canadian laws are) on thing on my mind is how good will Sonic Prime be, will it be as good as AOSTH and Sonic OVA.

I like the idea of his attacks being based on the wind, but I don't know about making combat bigger focus for a platformer. That's something you should put more so in a combat focused game so ideas don't clash. DMC already has weird platforming sections, and they were never good, outside of DMC5. I think what they need to do is polish up what they have now, cut some of the slow attacks and like you suggested add some wind based moves. Another thing I would love if they added some aura on Sonic's gloves when his punching enemies. There is something soo odd about Sonic just normally punching someone. Ideally they shoul take points from KH and or style switching from DMC and let you switch between platformer movement, and combat movement. And lastly, having good feeling combat is cool and all, but it means nothing if enemies your fighting are not well designed. It's fine in frontiers since it had a platformer combat and nothing really would get in your way, but then you get to the DLC were they didn't test the difficulty and everytime you die it feels unfair.

Your idea for players having to choose their opponents and allies throughout their time in the Open Zone sounds like a really interesting evolution of Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)'s Hero and Dark system. And it inspired some ideas in me so here they are if you are interested: I imagine that, much like Shadow (2005)'s levels, the Open Zone would be populated with different characters/entities from different factions, and these factions could be in battle against each other in multiple locations. The player would encounter these battles and would have to choose which side they want to assist, if either. The more enemies of one faction they defeat, the less hostile the enemies of the other faction become towards the player until they are eventually considered allies and explicitly aid Sonic in battle. This "relationship status" of sorts carries throughout the game and is updated based on the player's choices throughout. I imagine that the player's decision on who they should side with would be influenced by story events as they unfold, and future story events would be influenced by the player's decisions. In this way, as you alluded to in the video, the story could have multiple paths to take much like Shadow (2005). In Shadow (2005), story paths were dictated by which objectives the player completed during stages. In this hypothetical Sonic Spark, I imagine that story paths can be dictated by: -which stages players complete, which are dictated by... -...which stages the player finds and can access, which is dictated by... -...where the player explores, and the player's relationships with each relevant faction, which is dictated by... -...the enemies the player defeats and the objectives they complete. In this way, I imagine Sonic Spark would play like a much more layered and dynamic multiple-choice game: there is one true ending, but the player's decisions can lead them to alternate endings (in its simplest form: "good ending," "bad ending" and "true ending"). I am not usually the biggest fan of multiple-choice games with multiple endings, but your idea for Sonic Spark does sound like something I would enjoy. This is rather funny and fitting seeing as Sonic Frontiers is one of the games that did the same thing with the open world genre: I do not typically like those games, and then Sonic Frontiers comes along and is the most fun I have had with a Sonic game in years.

1:02:47 all of the voices in this mod are Jason. The reason he sounds kinda different in some clips is because they are taken from different times during Jason’s career of voicing sonic. When he first started sonic x, he really tried to emulate Ryan’s higher pitched sonic voice (something he confirmed in an interview) but as the years went on, he made the role his own and developed his own slightly deeper and more mature sounding sonic voice. None of the voices here are Ryan or Junichi. That “yeahhhh” clip is just from the early episodes of X

Okay. Here's what I got. Picture this: Sonic is standing atop a huge mountain with a slope and a ramp at the end (Sonic CD opening, you know the one). You roll down this mountain and ramp off high into the sky, seeing a cluster of enemies below. You perform a Stomp which, considering how high up you are, creates a massive shockwave, sending the enemies into the air. You jump up after them-- spinning, air-dodging, punching and kicking. It flows similarly to Kingdom Hearts combat with lots of juggling. You dispatch the enemies without even touching the ground. After all of the enemies are defeated and you are still airborne, you charge a Drop Dash and rocket off into the horizon, never breaking your flow.

Most of the time is the direction and writing actors are given that creates the problem. A guy with the range of Jason Griffin can do Sonic, many different Sonic in fact. I really dislike him in Sonic X but I grew to really like him with Unleashed and Black Knight. It was not up to Roger to make Sonic sound that low, and I'm sure I'd love Daven on a less annoying Sonic too. Also may I leave a completely unrelated hot take? I hope I'm not alone on this, and no disrespect to the actor himself, but I really hope Ben's Movie Sonic goes away after movie 3. I thank the Sonic movies because they did something the franchise really needed at that point, but i just can't with settling down, nuclear family loving, voice of reason steven universe blue arms sonic anymore

For combat, from just a gameplay perspective, I feel like a system a bit like Unleashed with the Werehog, or og God of War, or DMC, but also mixed with Sonic's typical moves. Maybe have a dedicated button to go in like a combat mode or something, or maybe just have a heavy and light attack button. Then the enemies should have weaker spots. Imagine having an enemy with a shield, so you can't attack it with the boost (although my preference would be to limit the boost to clear Mach Speed sections, but that's just me). However, you can break the shield with the spindash and topple the enemy with a sommersault or something. Then you'd expose a weak spot on its "belly", with is less armored for some reason. You could go with a spindash, but then there's an even more effective move, being the Super Peel Out from Sonic CD that lets you run on your enemy at supersonic speed. You could also have a more cinematic move that would make you roll onto your opponent like the iconic scene from the Unleashed intro, or more breakdance inspired attacks like some from Bayonetta. The attacks from Frontiers are great, sure, but mixing your movement options with light and heavy attacks (maybe even with delays) would make for a very unique, varied and intricate combat experience for Sonic, and that would blow people's mind

I know I am late but here are my two cents. I grew up with the 4kids era so those voices are very dear to me. But I believe the current voices are fine. I just think the voice direction is bad. And the writing from Colors to Forces is bad. When I heard Kirk Thornton as Shadow for the first time. I really hated it. And I thought it was the voice actors fault. But recently I was genuinely impressed in the Lego commercial, which made me realize that there so many factors to why I disliked the current cast. The story and portrayal of the characters. Sonic being annoying Tails being a coward etc.

Sonic is a fast game with tons of opportunities for creative expression and flashy movement, so no matter what the combat ends up being like, it should promote those three core aspects of Sonic gameplay. Fast paced, replayable, and room for creative expression. To keep those elements consistent between traversal and combat, I would do a few key things: Firstly, it would be based on the Team System used in Sonic Heroes, where you alternate between your speed, fly, and power types and everyone has different ways of traversing and fighting. Every character operates on the same core mechanics, but everyone has their quirks. Shadow could be a more combo-heavy character while Sonic is more hit and run. Certain enemies can only be damaged once you break their defenses with a specific character, but as you level everyone up the type-restrictions become less strict. And unlike Heroes, I think you should be able to create custom teams once you unlock new characters. Secondly, in terms of the actual movement and combat, I'd like to take inspirations from Transformers: Devastation. It's a more simplified and beginner/family friendly version of Bayonetta's combat with a smaller combo list and has a heavy focus on ending combos with a 'vehicle attack' which is basically a hard-hitting homing attack. The 'transform' system that lets you go into car form when dashing/dodging can easily translate to a roll/boost mode. Here's some gameplay to get an idea what I'm talking about. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIWsaKVjrMmHe5I And finally, a style meter, or the Momentum Meter as I'm calling it. If the game is going to follow the 'open zone' format, the end of stage ranking system can be reworked into the style meter. It would be a more active version of the Level Up system from Heroes, where increasing your level grants you stronger and more versatile moves. You increase that style meter by going for extended duration without slowing down or dropping your combo, emulating the feeling of keeping your momentum for the entire stage in the classic titles, as well as by taunting, switching characters, and finishing combos. TLDR: Take the team system from Heroes, give it a combat system like Transformers Devastation, incorporate a style meter that takes the level up system from Heroes and incorporates the feeling of keeping your momentum in the older games. You could also throw in some cinematic attacks like Frontiers and the QTEs from Unleashed but save them for specific opportunities like defeating a powerful enemy, teaming up with a new character for the first time, or at predetermined story beats.

Having multiple options of voices is kinda what I do with my interest in international dubbing, though it's not the same thing. From Gens onwards, the mainline games have had Castilian Spanish, Italian, French and German dubs. Despite not really speaking French, I tend to play those games in French with subtitles, just because I like the direction. Having that kind of freedom in a future game would be ideal. Having a multi-cast system where you simply choose your version like a language option (say for an SA1 remake, 'English (Default)' and 'English (Original Game Cast)') would likely be the best to please everyone, but it's very expensive and is hard to pull off for sure. I'm not saying I expect it to happen, just saying that it would be nice. I do hope that more language versions get made in general, 6 sounds like a lot before you realise that some of the largest Sonic communities are left out. There's no Russian dub, no Brazilian Portuguese dub and no Latin Spanish dub. All three of these regions have quite sizeable Sonic communities.
