Love this. So much good info. Especially the portion where Ian talked about the profile of a section of a shaft affecting the neighboring portion or it. Never would have realized that.

Ian, you mentioned that the Prov1 is the higher spinning ball with low launch. It does launch lower but the Prov1x is now the higher spinning ball with higher launch. Just thought that should be cleared up.

Another great video, guys. I really like all the information you give about shafts. Shafts are probably the least understood component of all golf equipment. Keep up the good work.

Shaft weight makes club play stiffer and 10g makes huge difference. I played GD tour ad bb 6s and 7s for years..... 7s launched lower than 6s or even 6x. It made a huge difference between 60 and 70g weight class.

Got new wedges (T7) 49,54 & 60. They fit my gaps great and I have been knocking pins down with them. Problem I see is my 54.12 is always easy to hit. My 60.10 seems to slip fat shots in from time to time but small divots. Also not as consistent in distance control. Grabbed an old Hopkins CJ1 60 wide sole and seems to be way more consistent. But sole is hard to open for flops. 0 handicap. 112 driver speed.

Question that maybe could be answered during next weeks live q&a- What modern shaft would most play to the same characteristics of a UST Proforce Gold 65 (purple/gold version) stiff flex tip stiff .350? I think it was actually the first version of this shaft that changed color schemes over the years.

Have u ever heard of 1 Iron Golf single length golf clubs what are your thoughts on them and the cobra one length clubs? Keep up the fantastic work.
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
I know Ian has mentioned that (so far) he hasn't seen enough performance advantage for enough players with single length irons to warrant offering them at TXG for fitting. That may change in the future but for now he's seen better potential for improvement and consistency with traditional length sets.

Hi, I just went to a fitting day during the Titleist Fitting Tour this morning. I wanted to test the AP3 head but I was not able to hit a single good shot until the fitter suggested a graphite shaft (Mitsubishi Tensei Pro Red AMC Stiff). And suddenly I could hit the ball again. I realized that with other steel shafts I wasn't feeling the head enough and therefore couldn't find my rythm/tempo as I was trying "too hard" to swing fast and hit the ball. The thing is I currently play Ping G30 irons with their stock steel stiff shaft and am able to feel the head quite fine and don't understand why I couldn't with Titleist heads (I tried the AP1 too). Are their head so much lighter ? Also could you discuss the "graphite shaft for irons" subject because It's always associated with slow swing speed and I am not that slow (around 85mph with 7 iron). Also I don't know if it matters but I am 6'6" tall and have a smooth tempo (between 3.5 and 4 to 1), which the fitter said is appropriate for graphite shafts on irons. Thanks a lot !

Great vid as always! What's the kick point of a shaft? Has that something to do with soft/stiff tip/butt sections?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
In a nutshell, high kickpoint shafts are meant to hit the ball lower - and low kickpoint shafts are meant to hit the ball higher. It's a factor of where the stiffest part of the shaft profile is.

Hey guys, I missed the chat answer cutoff by 1! I have the PX 6.0 shafts in my irons (MP-53). I get a nice medium flight out of them and carry by 6-iron about 180yds. My question is about my wedges - I game Cleveland rotex 2.0's with a wedge flex shaft and I'm struggling to control the height/distance on anything over a 50-70% swing. I'm getting at most 60yds out of my 60deg. and around 100yds with the 50deg. but more often than not they fall short on full swings. My pitching wedge is part of the iron set (46deg.) and I get around 130yds out of it comfortably. All this leads me to believe I should get a stiffer shaft in my wedges both for control and gapping reasons - what are your thoughts? Thanks!
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking Dan, you should be looking at a slightly heavier shaft in the wedges, but in a softer profile.
@dutchtrublemaker6 жыл бұрын
about the shaft weight. I have a 65g stiff shaft in my 917d3, and I swing it about 104-108mph. One of the clubfitters on my golfclub said my shaft is to heavy because I spin it to low and my ball flight is too low. But my pro says its fine, since we are still working on my swing and my m3 3wood 70g stiff goes miles. Which one of the two is right
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Doubt that a 65 gram shaft would be too heavy for someone with your swing speed. How low of a ball flight are we talking?

In regards to the Titleist D2 driver is any info available on the CG SureFit weight that Simpson has installed? Also would altering the CG SureFit weight, and/or using the fade weight, bring the CG closer to the face and make the head less spinny for those that get higher spin rates from the standard/stock D2 set up? Thanks.
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
We didn't have access to that info unfortunately Jon. As with most weight systems, the SureFit can be used to tweak ball flight and CG location. Generally they don't make a massive difference but are a viable option for dialing it in.

I recently bought the 718 MB 6-pw, CB 3-5 and t-mb 2iron with a Project X 6.0. Now a friend of mine got the Ping I-blades with a modus 105 Xstiff. I tried them and they are so much easier then what I have. Is that possibly bc of the shaft? I might need to change now!
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
iBlades are a more forgiving head than the MB or CB, but you may also find the shaft is suiting your swing better.

Considered a mid launch and low spin shaft by Aldila, and counterbalanced as you mentioned. Sounds like a nice pairing with the G400 max! Let us know how you hit it Anders!

Thoughts on a 3 wood shaft that low spin low launch and lighter than my UST proforce v2 96 gram x flex kinda tired of an E swing weight looking at something around 75-85grams? Was thinking a t1100, or tpt shaft any other options would help

If you extend the club by an inch over standard, how do the extra length affect the shaft required? ie) if in stiff flex, does the extra length reduce the stated flex of the club? Thanks!
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
By adding an extension to the shaft or by building to an inch over standard from the start?

Will a lighter shaft make the head easier to feel, or just make the overall weight of the club lighter?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Lighter shaft would make the swingweight of the club heavier, and the total weight of the club lighter. Check out the grip size video we just released for a lot more info on swingweight vs. total weight.

I am loosing a lot of my hybrid shots left do you think replacing it with a 3 iron will help? And also graphite or steel shaft it?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Some players do tend to struggle with hybrids and hitting them left. A 3 iron with a steel shaft likely would reduce that left shot for you. Combination of the different CG location, shorter shaft, etc. should help.
