Part of it might be down to sheer will. In the Greek Saga, Kratos's will to live was very strong because he needed to get his revenge. After the Greek Saga, when he had no one left to fight and the full weight of his crimes came crashing down on him, he began losing his will to live.

He's actually older. You're forgetting Kratos himself in Ragnarok said he had once regretted not being in the Battle of Thermopylae because he was elsewhere at the time as a young general. Also, yes, Spartans married at 20, but they never left the military until they were too old to fight so 30 just meant that was the age they were expected to have reach rank in the military. Also his daughter Calliope is about 11 years old when she died, is said to have been nearing womanhood as she became a great flute player, so he had been older than mentioned at her death. Having made a deal with Ares, it is logical that he had been given extended life by the god so he could serve him. Kratos served Ares for a number of years, around 5 years or so before the murders of Lysandra and Calliope. This means that Kratos would have been about 10 years older. And we don't really know how long he was on the throne for before he started his war, but it was most likely at least a century since he STOPPED aging when he entered Olympus and dined on godly food. Would make more sense as the gods were born knowing their powers but Kratos had to learn, BASICALLY ON HIS OWN, how to be a god. Given the math Kratos is more likely 1150-1200 years old

Not just that. During GOW Ragnarök, Kratos mentions briefly taking part in the Trojan war which was during the tail end of the bronze age. It's during a passing conversation when Mimir asks what his favorite piece of poetry is.

Ambrosía and nectar were food of the gods, not the source of their immortality. You're confusing the two immortals even further. Now each food of the gods had massive regeneration abilities but only for the gods. It wasn't the source of their immortality. The food mortals eat is sustenance, just ambrosia and nectar but it's not the source of their power

I think he confused the Norse and Greek mythology version of immortality because the Greek gods are always immortal while the Norse gods had to eat the very same apples kratos had collecting in the 2018 and Ragnarok to stay young

I personally think how gods aging works is that they’ll stop aging at some point in there lives and it’s random for each god but I think there age is just appearance and don’t affect there power and magic kinda like how Thor being fat or Balder being skinny doesn’t affect there strength

Check this out In gow ragnarok if you choose to do the quest of freeing the creature in alfheim's desert with atreus mimir says “ great GEFJON'S GHOST” gefjon is a goddess but not a GHOST and in a real poem odin says to loki that she knows the fate of every man even him self And mimir says that the voice told odin to get the mask across the seas and he got it from the silent matron herself Witch gefjon was a matron but ghost is something unique to her in the game so may be a goddess that is a great ghost = ATHENA In wiki “Gefjon glosses the goddesses Athena and Vesta” Maybe I’m wrong but her being described as “great ghost” is weirdly specific.

Part of it is because hes cursed to just keep living and never die, but hes aging also in part due to him not having anyone who worships him. Thats what gives the gods their youthfulness. Which is why in the end of ragnarok, he starts crying. Seeing the image of himself in the future, except once again youthful and had people around him bowing in worship. We also see that the norse gods were all young and youthful, and we also know the norse people worshipped them. However, oden was the only one we see who looks not only old, but almost frail. But the entire story is about how awful and cruel he is, so the likelihood of him still being worshipped as much as the other gods are slim. Hence his appearance.
@gregorysmith1402

Also you have to think that Odin has the power to change the way he looks to present himself how he sees fit. I seen one video that Odin presents himself as an old frail man to Atreus and Kratos to come off as less threatening as possible.

From a theory I read on reddit where a redditor was doing a QnA with one of the devs, the ddv said that the Greek/Olympian gods (including Kratos) age till they reach their physical peak and then they just don't and forever stay in their prime and live forever unless they're killed or something. Kratos just has not reached his physical prime ATM, he will stop aging after he gets a whole white beard like his father Zeus and then never age after that coz he wld have reached his physical prime, other Greek gods like Hermes Poseidon etc just happened to reach it earlier and then stopped ageing. On the other hand Zeus and kratos ended up/will end up looking really old before they reach their prime and hence will be tremendouly stronger than the other Greek gods. But after they reach their prime the rate of their increase in strength, stamina magic and powerups in general will decrease. I can't find the exact article and source rn but if I do, I will link it here

Yes. Or, something much simpeler. It is chained to emotions. Kratos feels old because he lived his past, and even tried to end it a few times. But he is not older now then Zeus was in GOW 3. But Poseidon was around the same age as Zeus. Yet Zeus seems older, aged. Poseidon was still young in itself. The same goes for someone like Hera. Who isn't older then Zeus, but aged like a grumpy old wine. Hephaestus looks not only beaten and bruised, but stripped of his youth. Its a bit of a theorie. But I believe that the negative emotion of sadness and fear have a real impact on the aging of the gods. And the same goes for happy ness and relieve. Maybe thats why Thor looks old and rugged. And heimdall looks like he just closed off puberty.

Its most likely their own way of seeing themselves. Zeus saw himself as wise and as the king of the greek pantheon. Kratos was young and rageful so he didn't really have much to say about himself. Now hes old wiser and more collected which is why we see him looking much older and probably why we hear and see him 'weaker'. Remember Kratos has tried to hide his godhood and live as a man that has to effect him like it did with Atreus when he got sick because he thought he was a mortal when he was indeed a god.

My point is that there you can see how much time Kratos has spend in the norse realm and one of the points was: 150 years ago - Kratos arrived in the norse lands So you got it right without that info

I think Kratos is a Demi-god, who rose to a god gaining immortality like the rest of the Greek gods. However, I think the ash curse was something similar to the curse placed upon Cain for killing his brother Able, he may die, but won't stay dead. Then the curse was strengthened even more by Athena at the end of 3 when she said that he would never experience an end to his suffering through death, thus even after leaving his homeland for what could be centuries, his curse will remain because Athena who has become an "Ascended god" I guess, still exists to keep his curse strong. And as we all know, greek gods are masters of holding grudges.

And Kratos is cursed to never die because of his past sins. But he can still be killed by another person of equal power. He just won't fall dead like mortal means. People confuse invulnerability and immortality. Immortality is the ability to live forever while invulnerability is the ability to never be hurt. Now both ability's are impossible to have because if you were truly immortal you could die by no means at all and if you were truly invulnerability you would never get hurt, like Baldurs curse. All gods have a form of Psuedo-immortality, where they can live forever with the prospect of not just dropping dead like mortals but can still be killed by other being of equal or more power. They also have stronger durability so that lesser things can't kill them but can still be harmed. Kratos has a similar type of immortality, except he's not dependent on any type of external source. He's just cursed to walk the earth forever, because of his sins of the past. Only another being stronger than him will be able to finally kill. But because he's Kratos and wants to live for his new son, that's going to be hard. As he says in Ragnarok, "Death can have me, when it earns me". I pity anyone who tries

He can't die even if he wanted to, that's why he said “death can have me when it earns me” meaning Kratos have nothing against him dying, it's just the curse that won't let him die. Every time he dies, the universe will work themself out to make Kratos alive again, just like when thor revived him at the beginning of GoW Ragnarok.

NO I DISAGREE!! why is everybody forgetting that ALL Gods realm is actually resides separately from than human realms(it means only human realm, realm where modern civization exists)(also god realms have humans too). Their time line is completely separate. Kratos at least close to 1000 years old but can be waaay older. our human timeline doesn't matter to GOW lore timeline. proof: when Kratos became God of war after killing Ares. there are clear cut scenes where Modern Warfare happening in the watchful eyes of Kratos the god of war.

Immortality means you won't die of old age, not that you can't be killed. That's why Thor could kill Kratos. You may not die of old age, you might not even age, but that bus speeding towards you can still kill you. Invincibility is the flip of that. You cannot be killed through damage or illness, but you will die of old age. That bus won't kill you, it'll hurt and you may have a broken body when you try to get up, but you'll live. But you'll die when you get old enough, say 98 years old. Invulnerability means your body cannot be damaged by any means. Swords, bullets, illness, poison, they wont' damage you. Getting hit by a bus? Nope. But, it can still be torn apart and you can still die of old age. Indestructibility is the flip of that. Your body can not be destroyed by any means. Torn apart, joints dislocated, etc. But it can be cut, pierced, and crushed. You can still be killed by all means and will die of old age. People often combine two or more of these, but they are separate things. Immortality often means you will not die no matter what, but that is wrong by definition. Kratos won't die of old age and immune to mortal illnesses and poisons, but can can still be killed by godly illnesses and poisons, and pretty much every other way someone can die.
