My mother, a deaf woman, played this game for years. Over and over and over again… she always hoarded her money, yelled when being chased, and took the same paths each playthrough and had to have beat it well over a dozen times, but always had a good time. Especially when we were watching her play. She didn’t understand the story, or any of the background lore - she just loved this game. It’ll forever be a masterpiece to her and myself. I think RE4 took a cue from Aliens and Terminator 2. When people are familiar with your monster, and thus not so easily frightened by it, make the sequel lean more towards action. That way both the characters and the audience can experience the catharsis of feeling like they're facing their old fears head-on. But don't forget to also up the stakes and make the monsters more powerful, so that the tension remains.

Technically speaking, Code Veronica isn't actually fully 3D (whereas RE4 was). Instead it uses a psuedo-3D system wherein the environment is indeed fully rendered in 3D, but the camera only pans on a fixed plane that the player cannot control - much less view objects within it from all angles - thereby giving the illusion of 3D without truly achieving it. This was used a lot at the time (think early God of War and DMC titles for examples of this) in order to maintain a higher fidelity than - due to hardware limitations - was possible with true 3D. So he's essentially correct in saying this.

RE4 is quite possibly the best marriage of mechanics, enemy design, and level design in a game to date. The core "stagger-melee" combat loop is consistently satisfying, providing mechanical (i-frames, crowd control, massive damage) and kinetic (cinematic presentation, momentary lull in tension) rewards every single time. Enemies are always visually reactive to what the player does. Adversaries change over the course of the game, and things like shields, invisible foes, helmets, and crossbows force the player to mix up their tactics, and push them to discover every element of the game's rich toolset. RE4 also rewards experimentation with a variety of weapons and a rich upgrade system. It's an absolute masterpiece of design, which makes it delightful to play.

@@abc-ug5ym Have you seen how fast RE 4 combat can be? The skill ceiling for the game is incredible.
@42Mrgreenman2 жыл бұрын
@@abc-ug5ym I like that little insight at the end there. Not just the mine cart, but the whole combat system seems like they took the emotional experience of gun combat in something from the arcades like Lethal Enforcers, House of the Dead, or Time Crisis and adapted it to RE...Specifically, Time Crisis (With the pedal)...Leave cover...Check targets and distance...Prioritize threats...Line up reticle...Fire...Evade when pressured... But in terms of bagging on consoles, IMHO it's a matter of precision...it's the reason why almost every FPS on console MUST include at least some aim assist, especially if it mixes console and PC players competitively...Man, I remember trying to play Counter-Strike on PC with a controller against keyboard...no contest...but the same does NOT apply however to something like Fighting games where all you are looking for is a single input command rather than a precision selection of pixel under your cross-hair....(Controllers CAN actually be better in the FGC due to ergonomics and the shorter distance your fingers need to travel for input...) so control choice is pretty situational... One last bit, I would partially disagree with the slowness complaint about RE4. The speed of the aiming and enemy movement is balanced with the fact that there is no strafing, dodging, or moving at all while aiming. It's doesn't make the game worse, just different in terms of player priorities...Think of it this way...In an FPS' you can circle-strafe or if you position your cross-hair at head level and aim just to the left of a corner that turns to the right, you can literally almost do nothing but press the fire button as enemies round the corner and backpedal as they advance down the hall...Y'know how they made it more difficult in RE4? Now your gun has natural sway since it's impossible for an actual human to remain perfectly still while aiming and you can't move...thus making it more complicated...motion and combat are just separated in RE4's system...

The thing I appreciate the most about RE4 is the pacing, it's extremely well crafted in every part of the game, it's like the devs knew exactly when to slow things down or step up the action in just the right amounts. Considering it's a fairly long game for a third person shooter the puzzles and enemy encounters are placed with consideration to the player's mindset, I never got the feeling of getting bored or annoyed by any segments.

If you're at the village entrance, the 3 Ganados won't spawn and you can just wait until they get close, shoot one in the head and kick a lot of them. One thing They did explain in the game that Luis Sera had taken medication to resist the Plagas infection. There is a note that says they tried to infect him, but to no avail because he took that medicine to kill the plagas before it hatched. They had to wait till the medicine ran through his system completely before they can infect him again. As for the executioner. I just assumed that the infection was taking too long and decided to just end him. I guess they had a plan to have Leon save Ashley, pretend to be the hero, and then help Saddler take over America, but later figured "Hey, why bother? Kill him and make a better plan."

Also the other problem Act-man talks about, the fact that Menendez attacks you after letting you go, first he is not your friend, he even just told you that if you keep poking there would be severe consequences and I guess following him around would be enough to make him mad, I mean is not like the ganados stopped attacking after that, also since it's an extra cutscene I give it more leeway because it's not something everyone will experience in their first playthrough.

It's weird I never realized that the dismemberment mechanic for Dead Space was inspired by RE4...then I thought...OH, so that's where Visceral got the idea for Issac's gruesome deaths...in fact...IIRC the death animation used for the U-3 where he chops Leon's leg off is directly referenced in Dead Space when that game's unkillable monster that you have to run from and eventually face, kills you...he does the same thing...chop off your arm, chop off your head, chop of your leg and hold it in the air like a side of beef...

The highest praise I think I can give RE4 is this: The game was so good, I didn't even care that a majority of it consisted of one massive escort mission. Good game, yo.

considering it was the PS2 era, Ashley had pretty good AI
@josephschultz3301 Жыл бұрын
@@rique_com_que I can agree with that. She auto-ducked if you aimed in her direction, stayed where she was when you told her to stop following you, and very rarely bugged-out when following you around weirdly-spaced terrain. For PS2/Gamecube era AI, that's almost unheard of.

The way the game was created is what's so special. It's simplicity makes it easy to emulate as well but the graphics and game play was way ahead of its time.

The cinematography during the Krauser QTE boss fight and cutscenes is just amazing. That sequence of shots where you see Leon wipe the blood from his check, cut to the blood on the floor, move up to Krauser holding the knife outward, it will go down as one of the most well constructed scenes in video games.
@mtb54313 жыл бұрын
Honestly was more into Leon and Krauser’s rivalry more then Chris and Wesker’s. Probably cause they were both interesting characters while Chris was bland and generic compared to the charismatic Wesker. Wish Krauser wasn’t killed off in RE4. If Capcom’s gonna keep putting Leon in every CGI, give him a reoccurring foe.

Words can barely describe how much I love this game. Back in middle school, I had exactly one friend. That one friend introduced me to this game. It was my first "shooter", my first and only horror game ( as I'm usually too scared to enjoy horror game) and we played this game like there was no tomorrow. On one safe file, I beat the game around 20 times becuase I was so addicted, my friend and I spent days at my place to grind the mercenaries mode or to upgrade every single weapon there was. Few games bring me as much nostalgia as RE4 does, which is why I was so excited for the remake and I am so amazed by how amazing it turned out. So much love goes out to the developers and to you, act man, for putting together this extensive video
