Why is The Emoji Movie SO BAD?

The 2017 Animated Film The Emoji Movie is one of the worst animated Films ever made.
Can you even call it an animated film? It's just product placement.

I went to watch this movie in theaters, and usually I dig into the snacks I bring in, especially when I'm enjoying a movie. I didn't touch my snacks once... I'm a firm believer that an idea can work with the right execution (and without being made absurd on purpose), but The Emoji Movie doesn't bring anything new to the table, nor try to give us anything to be surprised at. It has some cool concepts, like the sound ocean and trojan horse character, but they get muddied by characters and moments I wish weren't there. On the bright side, I love to think that Spider-Verse is an apology note for The Emoji Movie, and Sony did make more great movies after it, so mistakes were certainly learned from.

The biggest problem is.... what kind of story can even be made about emojis? They are not toys or anything, they are just symbols to represent emotions in text messages, and even then they are pretty much optional. In this regard, the clichee "don't confirm, be yourself" message is like the worst take you can do with this sort of premise. If the emojis don't work they way the should, then why even use them?

This movie was a Wreck It-Ralph knockoff. Wreck It-Ralph (2012) was a beautiful masterpiece compared to the emoji movie. I need to apologized to my 19 almost 20 year old self for seeing this. It makes me depressed that Patrick Stewart played a crap emoji and I'm not even kidding that even Kevin Chamberlin, yes, the guy who played Bertram on Jessie (2011-2015) made a cameo in this dumpster fire.

Watching someone tearing it apart is more entertaining EDIT: My God, I thought this movie couldn't be that bad, but watching how this movie ends was painfully cringe, it hurts physically. For the first 11 years of my life I was an average child. If you asked what my favourite movie ever was, I would probably say the newest Pixar movie. If you asked me what my least favourite was, well there were some movies I didn't like when I was younger but I didn't think of them that much and there wasn't a movie I would ever call my least favourite. That all changed on 8th September 2017, the day I went to The Emoji Movie. From then on, 2017 marked the year a movie cynic was born.

Let's count how many other movies The Emoji Movie rips off. The main character is being hunted by the villians just like in The Lego Movie. The main character wants to change something about himself just like in Wreck-It Ralph. Jailbreak is a princess who wants more just like in every Disney princess movie. The main characters accidentally make their host, Alex miserable like how Joy, Sadness and the other emotions accidentally make Riley miserable. There's a dance party ending like in Shrek. Are there any other movies it rips off?

We were robbed of having a Popeye movie over this. Also, you know the writers were on an overly strict deadline when they have to end the movie on a dance number with no logical reason as to why they're doing a dance number. I'm just happy Sony realized that they shouldn't stoop this low after this movie.

I actually finally watched this movie a week ago. And I think it was warning us of the movies we would be getting after this came. This movie is a Grim reminder that Hollywood would become movies like THIS would become the standard. And when you think about this movie, it is about an AI trying to fix its programming so that it would like be like everyone else only then to figure out it can be whatever it wanted to be

I honestly hated the Emoji movie when it first came out and when it was first advertised a lot more than I do in present day. The hate for this movie has become so nostalgic that I'm beginning to question if it was ever bad in the first place or if it was mainly the teaser trailer that put a bad taste in everyone's mouth. All I'm saying is the hate for this movie seems so cult like that I question the authenticity of it. At least it's better than food fight and Megamind verses the doomed piece of Sh!!!!t!!!

This may be a hot take but I actually hate Ralph Breaks the Internet way more than this. The emoji movie didn't have any potential to begin with. Whereas Wreck-It Ralph 2 always had the potential to be on the level of Who Framed Roger Rabbit but for video games. Instead they made the Emoji Movie 2. They fundamentally changed the characters and their relationships to make that happen. The fact that it's a bigger animation studio throwing way more money at a premise that they stole from what was already a souless cash grab to make an equally soulless cash grab designed around brand tie-ins but with way more money trading hands and a distinct focus on promoting Disney's brands just makes it worse. Don't get me wrong The Emoji Movie is worse but I definitely hate Ralph Breaks the Internet more.
