You're right, this was a sweet sounding guitar!. I had some plywoods back a long time ago, but remember they sounded very thin and chimey. Did never get them to sound like this one does!. Went on to think alder-body, had to be.. Never went to any plywood again,.. But amazed by this sound!.

Looks like a great find! The good part of Squiers are that one seems to get serial numbers with the deal!.. Ok, you could find same Chinese guitars without any serial, (even Squier).. SE from 2002-2007.. But rather a Squier than any other Chinese noname.. Yeah, sounded great also!.

Like you, I don't use a whammy bar much and like you, I wanted a hardtail Strat. I came across a Squire Bullet body for $50 because it was a bit banged up. I put on a Classic Vibe Strat neck, and I had my hardtail Strat for about $150 worth of parts. But then I went and got a Robert Cray loaded pickguard which added another $150 to the total. Still, at $350 dollars, I have a really nice hardtail Strat that I love.

Oh wow, I bought an almost identical Squier Bullet Strat hardtail at my local pawn shop this year for like $90. Mine is an '04 made by Samick Indonesia for Squier ('SI' prefix instead of 'IC'). Very good guitar. Same flawless super dark blue paint as yours- looks black in a dark room but blue in good light. The original plastic protective film was still on the pickups and pickguard, which were in like-new condition. The neck is fantastic with true quartersawn maple and an ebony fretboard. Frets are perfect, just polished them and then did a light mineral oil treatment on the fretboard. The tuners are not the best thing about the guitar but they work and hold tune well. Pickups are great all around which was a real surprise. I could go on and on, it's just a great guitar. The body is a mahogany ply laminate like yours- nothing wrong with that, very strong and stable. I replaced the cast saddles with machined brass ones by Musiclily ($28 total w/tax & delivery from Amazon) and recommend them highly. Do not let your Cort Indonesian Strat get away from you man, these are as good as a Fender. Mine plays and looks absolutely fantastic after a thorough detailing and setup and I plan to keep it. Good find there, Jayce!

Wow, that's great. Thanks for the info. Mahogany laminate. That's fascinating. You got a good deal, I feel I paid a fair price, but could have got one cheaper. But it's an interesting guitar.
@markpell8979
@markpell8979 20 күн бұрын
I totally disassembled mine to work on it. The cavity routs and neck pocket reveal the body is about thirty or so layers of laminated mahogany veneer. It's fair to call that plywood but technically it's more of an engineered structural lumber with higher grade veneer faces. I was a professional woodworker and I have no problem with that type of construction.

ive messed with a bunch of these 2000-05 bullets and can give you this information. they were available in h, hss and sss versions. they do come with the dime size pots and ceramic pickups. but this is the kicker. this run of bullets have what they call the "wide" bridge. the base plate is wider than the typical fender measurements. becuasce of that the pickguard is also unique naturally to fit around the bridge. these pickguards are very hard to find and there is very little aftermarket support for them. also the pickguard screws are not in the same placement as a fender.also they are mostly 1 1/2" not the 1 3/4" that is ender standard but i did find one that is full thickness.

Regarding plywood (or as we owners refer to them, instrument grade laminate) bodies, I have a '92 made in Korea, Cort made Fender Squier series (they're considered Fender but I always thought of them as Squier- headstock has large Fender logo, small squier series on ball end) Strat. The body is plywood. Of all my strats it is the loudest and most resonant when played unplugged. Almost has a natural reverb sound. Can't explain it, but that's my experience with ply.

Jayce, have you thought about doing a video yet on the Hils strat version or their tele version? You have a good channel that I think will grow if you get some headlines in the titles on up and coming guitars like Hils as people will be searching for info. I know it's a little more money but I have a feeling it will become a guitar you play yourself. I want to see your channel grow so if you want to do it, I will send you a thanks donation or whatever you use to send you 50 dollars to offset ordering one. I think the guitar names are Hils Talent or Hils Essence. Reach out to me if you want to give it a try. I don't work for Hils or own the company. I stumbled on the guitars. btw, you are right about prices being low out there. I bought a brand new 10th Anniversary PRS 2 yesterday listed at 2300 for 1587 and it included tax and shipping. Three weeks ago I bought a new PRS CE listed at 2900 for 1200 because the dealer was going out of business. Reach out to me if you want to do my donation to try the Hils video. I think they list at 329 and you may be able to get something off for black fri.

@JayceAllanGuitar Yes I agree, it sounds great! It's due to the perfect stagger on the pole pieces. I have many Strats with different pups but only one has pups like those and every time I play it I'm amazed with the sound. Those pups are made by Tone Rider for Squier Strats back then. A set of real Tone Riders starts at $100-116ish. They have at least 3 different kinds of single coil sets for Strats. My fav is City Lights, Idk what's in my strat but it sounds like the City Lights ones. ✌️ Dave Tucson 🌵

True. But in the video I explain my motives. I almost didn’t buy it because the shipping cost was so high but wanted it because it had a hardtail bridge on it which I had never seen on a Squier before. Not all guitar purchases are about getting the most for your money or even getting a good player. I got this one almost out of sheer curiosity. And it seems it was a good buy because this model sells for close to $200 on Reverb. Not that I bought it thinking I’d make money on it.
