That’s not how good cinematography works though, they can be stylistic or aesthetically pleasing. But good cinematography is the one that enhances the experience particular to the plot and themes, the one that fits and tells you things the characters or dialogue don’t show.

In the books, John Ambrose was too similar to Lara Jean. Like so similar that Lara Jean felt like she wasn’t being “challenged” in the sense that Peter will take her out to parties and do things out of her comfort zone. Meanwhile, John Ambrose was so similar that he would never challenge her because their likes and dislikes were so similar. But I agree with you that the movie portrayed John Ambrose as the clear “best boy” and didn’t really highlight Peter’s positive aspects
