Very good video Lydi! Been looking forward to this part 2. I think that Jean does a brilliant job of reflecting the themes of the story back onto the main characters. In that way he is the ultimate supporting character. His peaceful dream is the mirror to Eren’s crusade, his heart stands in mirror to Armin’s brain, and his compromising nature is the mirror to Mikasa’s staunch certainty. And in being a mirror to each of these characters he helps them grow and grows himself in the process.

Wow, what a beautiful Explanation plus how you managed to place cutsecnes was so accurate and made it perfect. Also how you mentioned Jean, Sasha and Connie as normal humans yet still willing to save world, and each other was soo beautiful, also the Ice-cream scene 😅. Also how you explained Jean character growth through entire storyline was so amazing to each and every detail, as friend, leader, as strangers/rivals( During S4 when everyone had to work with each other to stop Erin) and man who pushed forward with Hope. Also Scene where you explained their(Connie, Jean) acceptance to turn into titan by founding titans poison gas was also incomparable. Personally i liked part 2 even better, or it might be that i missed AOT's other short movies where story focus more in beginning part, their time as Cadets. Really Gald that you could give time, and make video about AOT while also covering other Series.

It's deeply fascinating to see Jean referred to as a "hero" kind of character, because he certainly wasn't framed that way from the start and I've always associated "heroes" with the kind of open idealism and desire to inspire change. Yet here's this guy riddled by internal conflict and self-doubts managing to become one of the most inspirational characters in this franchise. He's just a guy, he's not a Titan Shifter or an Ackerman or a chosen one, but he's someone the audience can relate to and maybe even aspire to be like.

Loved this series, im currently rewatching AoT, so its fun to get that better understand Jean as a character. I would love to see a study on Reiner and his grief, I always loved his role as an anchor of the recruits despite his later betrayal, and then how he copes after the fact. Love the content!

I really enjoyed your analysis of Jean. AOT is one of my favourite shows, and Jean is one of my favourite characters in it. I think you made a really great point about how that last conversation between Jean & Reiner ultimately led to victory. I never thought of it like that, but you're totally right.

This guy had every opportunity to embitter himself, become villainous, or give up. Most people would. Not Jean though. Some people see the ugliness of the world and decide that, in order to survive, they must become like the ugly they hate. Not Jean though. There are people who will never have real intimate connection. They refuse to separate the fantasy of who they want someone to be from the reality of who that person is. Not Jean though. @@lydiscott I'm still processing it. I figured out what Eren's plan was as soon as I realized Historia was being sidelined, but the pseudo-time travel stuff seems an unnecessary complication. Even without that part Eren is probably the worst person in a show full of terrible people and the terrible situations that they create and which create them in turn. But the ending itself I think I love. It's somewhere between Return of the King and All Quiet on the Western Front, a bittersweet conclusion in which the two components are so mixed that you cannot separate one from the other.

Thank you for the video, and finally someone who just outright said Jean did end up together with Mikasa 😭. Some parts of the fandom went through such mental gymnastics to deny it and some of the arguments (purity ring, Mikasa kept herself a virgin for Eren etc.) are genuinely gross.

I remember when I read the part of the manga where Jean transform into Titan due to zeke smoke, I almost flipped out my table literally. Jean will always be the best character for me. how Armin was previously "destined" to be the better commander but Jean is the one who stood up in the most difficult situations. I dont care about the meme about him on mikasa, I just love Jean's character as he is really relatable from the very start since he rised above even though he has no super powers like titan shifters and ackermans

The story’s ending was so nonsensical. Everything happened because of some bizarre case of “stockholm syndrome” and they waited till the very last minute to drop that reveal with no buildup whatsoever. This cheapens the lore and plot so badly that it ruins most of the great characters as well.

This has been food for thought, though I cant really relate to Jean because I feel that Armin's previous statement is better. Only those who are willing to become monsters can change the world and I believe deeply that you have to become as cruel as your surroundings. When it comes to AoT... My only feeling is that I dont think Eren went far enough. He let his friends be a stopgap. When faced with Marley and their invasion and all the people wanting for blood, my personal response would be all-out violence and as a certain fictional character from Breaking Bad would put it "no half-measures".

@@AM17titan I would answer with 'who cares' All things change in the world, is it really meaningful to experience no growth, especially in front of a stronger opponent? Thinking of Ghost of Tsushima and other series I enjoy. When faced with a challenge, we take whatever weapons we can hold.

I personally think Armin’s words ring hollow in the ultimate message of the show. A major theme is the cycle of violence, and how becoming a monster to defeat monsters doesn’t change things for the better, it just makes more monsters. My interpretation, though. Jean is an example of those who could become monsters, but choose to maintain their humanity. He will do what he needs to, but he understands the futility of revenge and tries to push his emotions aside and continue fighting for what’s right, even when it’s the hardest thing for him to do at the moment.
@anthonyschlott91618 күн бұрын
@@amandah661 Going back to my Ghost of Tsushima reference, I think of the themes and quandaries of AOT through that lense a lot. Does retaining your humanity/honor mean anything if it keeps you from defeating the opponent who knows you well enough to exploit it? I would argue no it doesn't, you aren't taking your opponent seriously enough if you believe to stay clean. Like trying to have your cake and eat it too. It feels too fanciful. Personally I don't see value in humanity or honor so it is my lean to abandon when needed. Just my own philosophy.
