As a Luigi fan, I still think Mario is a great hardworking, comfortingly confident guy and him always being ready to help anyone including former villains is admirable. Mario is a champion idol and Luigi is a champion underdog.

Mario has an interesting character. From what I can gather, he's a really supportive guy. No matter who you are, if you need help, Mario will help you. Even if you're openly going against him. Like with DK in Mario vs DK, which is probably the best depiction of Mario's personality ever (not in the remake though. I mean in the original on the GBA). But also, Mario is a brawler. He will try to help people, but he's not afraid to fight them first if needed. Like with Vivian in TTYD for example. He helped her in chapter 4, but he also defeated her her alongside her sisters in Chapter 2. Or going back to Mario vs. DK, Mario lends a hand to DK and gives him a Mini-Mario, but only after he defeated him and got back what he stole. This is interesting, and also prevents his character from being repetitive with Peach's character, who is also kind and tries to help people, but who doesn't know how to fight and relies more on her intelligence and compromising to solve conflicts without violence. But the problem is that Nintendo will most likely never acknowledge Mario's personality and use it in a game's story. Same with Peach's. Unlike Luigi who got lucky to have his character not presented as a flat piece of cardboard.

I honestly agree, although with the Peach part, she has been shown multiple times that while not as capable as the bros, she still can hold her own, as shown in 3d world and wonder, but especially with her stand-alone games, she has been shown to rescue Mario when he was captured in the og Super Princess Peach. Its just that, as you mentioned, her character is usually sidelined in favour for the story to pick up, making her more times than not just bland and boring It also helps the fact that Luigi's rise in popularity has been done via memes such as the "wins by doing nothing" or the mean stare as he passes you in mario kart, but i think the biggest factor would be thanks to mario party, more specifically a channel that does content on that, the person behind it being Brent from the party crashers, since thats who he mains, and thanks to his popularity, more and more people started liking luigi's character as a whole since he gave him more of a spotlight edit: forgot to mention the mario and luigi games, since thats where his character, alongside the luigi mansion franchise, especially in my opinion, Dream Team, since when there is a giant fight incoming, he will usually still be afraid but will still go help his brother in need, putting his fear aside in order to help out his family, the one he is the closest with

Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser many times, the fact that she's capable to defeat him on her own like in 3D World makes no sense, because then why doesn't she just do that in Odyssey for example ? Not only is it inconsistent, I feel like it's also detrimental to her as a character. Not every female character needs to be made into a strong and independant girlboss who can fight. I like the route that the first two Paper Mario games took instead, where she can't fight but has other qualities, like her intelligence and kindness, which she uses to send precious intel to Mario which, if he didn't have, he would have a much harder time saving her. In this, Peach is useful in her own unique way. She doesn't need to be able to fight to help the progression of the story, and I think that this is what they should have done with Peach's character in mainline. Maybe give her her own stealth sections like in Paper Mario, but with the plateforming gameplay of the mainline Mario games. That could be interesting. Either way, I don't think that making her fight is the way to go.

luigi is loved as a character more than mario for 1 big reason luigi, has way more personality than mario, due to, like the video said, mario being the face of nintendo, he has to be basically a clear slate so hes more relatable, not to say he cant have a personality at all, but the moments where his personality shines are few. i love luigi, hes my and many others favorite mario character, and for him to stay that way, he cant ever become the main mario brother, since everything that makes luigi, luigi, will be stripped away, and then we will ACTUALLY get mario 2 i've looked up to luigi since i was young, hes light-hearted, competitive at times (seen in mario kart and the sports games) and brave, yes, hes brave, bravery isnt not being scared, but being scared and still doing it. tl;dr: casino luigi is why luigis so popular, lets be real here guys 🗣

Luigi got quite a lot of development and by the end of the game, even Bowser, who always referred to him as Green 'Stache or something to that effect throughout the M&L series, calls him Luigi when he realizes that he can be as much of a threat to him as Mario. I like Luigi for many reasons, green is my favorite color, I'm also pretty anxious, but brave like Luigi. He isn't a coward, he's braver than his fearless brother. Bravery is overcoming fear and Luigi does that spectacularly well and is also highly competent in several activities such as driving and jumping high. Mario has somewhat of a personality too and he's pretty cool sometimes, but the brand image thing is holding him back from being more compelling.

I don’t think its that Luigi is more popular. But rather that almost like Mario he is respected by fans. Its easy to see that most don’t see Mario’s “personality” and use it as a thing to define Luigi. And while thats good, people act like Mario has no personality while he has shown in multiple games before. One can say he is willing support and help those in need, he can be pretty competitive and that he is pretty head-strong and Brave. This makes sense in certain games. The real problem is how Nintendo doesn’t seem to consistently do this with his character thus people say “he barely has any personality than this character!” Argument.

These 2 have been saving each other from certain doom several times and they still act mostly solo. The main contrast I've been seeing is that Luigi uses more tactical means than Mario to reach his goals, wich first got my attention in TYD due to how Luigi speaks about his adventures in comparison to what you've been doing with Mario. Also in LM1, he saved Mario by getting the necessary information and equipment from E.Gadd, while pretty much dealing with a world ending scenario. Man, I wish Nintendo wasn't such a dogshit company :(
