Like think about it, what's the Joker/Green Goblin of Gwenpool or new Ms. Marvel? Heck, even when the best I can say about Karol's Ms Marvel is: Ex Military Pilot Has powers from space She's an Avenger Even with just that she still has a purpose, thx to her connection to Mar-Vel, she is connected to the Kree and Skrull Empires. Threats that Avengers dealted with more than once. Or in other words, even if they don't have a well known Rouges gallery, at the very least they are connected to big time bad guys (Ex Like Gamora and Thanos), making them more relefent. Something with acception to Miles, you can't REALLY say about any other character you mentioned.

TBH Marvel and DC doesn't have to worry about creating new characters/stories to adapt for live-action or animation for decades as they have barely scratched the surface of the IP they own, now went it comes to the comics the reason new characters fail is they don't try and create them organically prime example being characters like Kamala Khan, Gwenpool and Spider-Gwen as they were all created to basically exist as an image rather than something to serve the story unlike popular characters like Wolverine and Venom who originally served the purpose to be a foe to The Hulk and Spider-Man respectively. Also a character like Punchline, only time will tell just how fair she will play out.

New idea i had as a kid: A world known detective known as Detective Nomad Shimano. He was born with strange powers, with unknown origin. His father was dead before he was born and his mother past away at his birth. Adopted by a religious family, nomad made it a mission for himself to find out who his family was. He accepted his adoptive family, but he was admired by his power so much he knew he couldn't have got it from them. So he made it his destiny to learn how to be an amateur detective. His skills were noticed one day though as a murder case took place and he found out who it was the day of, even though the murder took place 20 years ago. So after years of hard work and more training, he became the first super powered, world renounced detective. To be continued...as he'll finally find out the truth.
@knightofkorbin8883 ай бұрын
This is your character, but if I was also developing Detective Nomad Shimano, I would specify his powers involve a superhuman memory enlightening his mind to superhuman levels of intelligence. Where unlike Taskmaster, for example, he can absorb/access everyone else's memories on Earth. Any creature with a brain and memories is a library of knowledge open to his mind. At the cost of forming his own memories. He can remember his life, except this is possible by indirectly remembering that life from someone else's perspective, such as from his adopted family's POV. Meaning, Nomad can only remember memories he didn't directly experience himself. His detective skills and training relate to discovering, memorizing, analyzing, and saving details through other means, besides using his brain, so that he may keep and recollect his private memories. Partiality becoming a detective out of necessity to remember his days on Earth. That's the weakness I would give him. Unlimited, cosmic telepresent awareness at the cost of losing private, personal memories he experienced alone (or with two people whose "consciousnesses were deactivated"). The mystery of his parents is his ultimate challenge since both of them are dead and he cannot access their memories nor does he know their identity. Leaving him clueless, despite possessing the power to access the memories of anyone alive who knew them. He could remember their relative's memories however he did not learn the identities of his parents, leaving him unable to recognize the identities of his relatives in a sea of memories. Wherever they are on Earth. A hero blessed, or cursed, with the ability to remember everyone else's history except for his own. I guess I'm running with the idea that he's a nomad on Earth's mindscape. How his mother died is connected somehow to Nomad's powers. Since she was the first person he was using his powers on. In a sense, experiencing life out of the womb, while still physically bound in the womb, through her perspective. I fear I could start developing how crucial a component his adopted family's religion is, conceptualize a few of his rogues, and imagine his supporting characters, so I'm stopping now because It's not my place to start worldbuilding onto your character you created as kid. Great idea by the way. He's all yours.

Where they make new characters that share the DNA of their predecessors but do completely different with their stories and designs to keep their IPs fresh and not completely recycled. Also they're their to sell toys so that's another big reason. Can't exactly sell the same character design for multiple years without some changes. They gotta re-invent themselves to refresh the toy isle. Also helps that the toys are fun as hell.

That’s the thing, most people love to stay in their comfort zone, paying money to see some characters you know or love guarantees a certain level of satisfaction and enjoyment, compare that with to see a character you are not attached to, there’s no comparison needed to be explained here. But that’s just how people’s interest in characters work, you can’t always just push out a new character a hope that he/she get the popularity it deserves right away, new characters and new stories oftentimes serves as a new entry ticket to those who’s fresh in the genre, I know miles morales isn’t really a good example but nowadays more and more kids may think of miles when talking about spider-man instead of Peter, new kids may relate to new movie characters just like how we used to go to movie theaters for new original stories like Madagascar or Bolt, new stories attracts new viewers, and frankly speaking, for a franchise to do good, not only do they have to respect the old fans who supported them until today, they also need a make a room for new comers, I don’t like new characters, that doesn’t mean new viewers won’t, that’s just my opinion

4:48 The actors actually do have some say in what happens to the character, to some degree. If Micheal Keaton did like what his Batman was doing in The Flash he didn’t have to appear in that movie. Just like when Jodi Foster didn’t return for Hannibal the sequel to The Silence of the Lambs, while Julianna Moore took over the role it wasn’t nearly as good as when Jodi Foster played the character. And in the case of The Flash it would have been very likely that had Micheal Keaton not returned they would have found another Batman to be in the movie or used a different character all together. So while a writer (for a movie or comic) and director has no say in that they character's that they create will do in a movie that they aren’t involved in the actor can have some influence over the project that they are involved in even if it it just an acting choice or as big as not appearing in the sequel or subsequent film.

I think they should invent new things BUT use elements of other popular stories in their own story so people don't get too lost to a new creation.. it's like a diet lunch.. it's the same food with the same taste but you decrease the amount of it that you consume..you don't feel like this isn't a good food and it's actually helping you to be healthy

Its called having a built in fandom that will watch it no matter what. If a alrieady established franchise with a built in fandom fails to be good, the studio will still get something back because theu know that theres a fandom thatveill watch anything batman or anything spiderman compared to but blaster man who is new.

Punchline could become relevant since she's been leaked for Multiversus. But like with Nubia we'll see how that goes. Because she's not a popular household name like other leaked DC characters Aquaman, Raven, Static or Poison Ivy. That game is WB's all stars game they've been trying to push. Who knows what will happen with it.

Just because a character isn't brand spanking new (created in the past two years or so) doesn't mean they aren't "new" as conpared to the others with 40+ years of hidtory. If you feel like discounting legacy characters who carry a mantle like Jaime Reyes, Miles Morales, or Sam Alexander, then that still leavs tons of characters. Squirrel Girl, Ms Marvel, Red Hood (yes, as weird as it may sound, he's actually still pretty new in the grand scheme of things), Negasonic Teenage Warhead, The Runaways, Speedball, and so many more

Well, Agatha debuted in the 60's, so she doesn't count as a new character either 😂

@@mrheadcannonYou brought up Todd Macfarlane as an example of one creator who has rights to his creation and stuff like that.But as much as I am a fan of Todd myself.He's also culprable of treating other creators poorly e.g.Neil Gaiman with Angela and Cogliostro in the Spawn series.

They didn't give Kamala Khan a new name because they have to use the IP of characters are they lose the rights to it which is what happened to DC Captain Marvel.

Yep no dark Knight returns no Wonder woman 3 no Shazam 3 new Batman beyond movie no Black Canary movie no Justice League 2 movie and that means DC will never end up making a green arrow movie and no Catwoman movie no Nightwing movie if I was in church DC would be a lot better than with James Gunn at the helm

It's funny how the writer says Punchline is not like Harley Quinn... But the thing about Punchline is she'll be forever compared to Harley Quinn because she fills the same role. Even if they have opposite treatments, stories and behaviours, they're still viewed as "Joker's Serial Killer Girlfriend"
@LostOneOmega3 ай бұрын
I like Gwenpool because she blocks Harley Quin. Harley has, to me, worked best as Joker's sidekick but DC wanted her as their Deadpool. However, Qwen tries to be HQ but she tries to beat Deadpool at the punch.So, Qwen beats HQ at the punch.

The characters that are new, whose fault is it that they don't take off? Is it that people want to see what's familiar or is it the failing of the companies to bring in new audiences? Also are the new characters and stories even good?
@riccardir133 ай бұрын
Marvel and DC so try and release characters every few years remember the New Warriors fiasco, remember characters DC created like Bunker in the New Teen Titans or Sideways yeah neither do alot of people, part of that is due to 2 things. 1. DC and Marvel wont take many risks anymore as the comic book industry is in shambles and while people watch TV shows and Movies, the lack of advertising and mismanagement has caused comic sales to plummet so it's safer to use older established characters. 2 there aren't as many good writers or stories out there and I know it's broken record but politics and social commentary have helped to ruin that, alot of writers want to soapbox and the community is tired of and the accusations against them when they don't agree that they are bigots/transphobes/misogynists/racist etc. Also on Miles Morales, I wouldn't call him a complete success, only until the games and movies has his character gotten better recognition (partially due to better writing) he had some initial success when he first came out because shock value but comic sales about him haven't been as profitable as predicted, so much so they had to shoehorn him into alot of other series because people just started to drop off. Kamala is sort of in the same boat but she is better written so she made more of an impact. Also I would like to point out when a character is made by more than 1 person you can have even more compounding issues take Peter Parker. Parker was made by Stan Lee AND Steve Ditko not Stan Lee alone (actually several characters Stan Lee created were joint projects with other creators), and the Ditko estate had some leeway on the Spiderman IP and that caused some issues as they tried to reclaim both Spiderman and Dr. Strange and that may have potentially fouled ups some movies and may have helped lead to the creation of Miles Morales because Marvel was having trouble controlling the character of Peter Parker so Miles was an "original spiderman" they could control the rights too without interference. Also I wouldn't call Invincible entirely original since Kirkman made the main character is the son of a Superman analog and most heroes and villains in that series are parodies or copies of characters from both DC and Marvel, it's essentially a variant of the Watchmen idea for the new age minus the Cold War/ Doomsday clock commentary

No new superheros in comics? There are plenty of new super hero characters, yes in Marvel and DC, You probably haven't heard of them due to the massive nostalgia wave that dominated comics from early 2000's to 2019. The X-men had loads of Juniors characters, Many created in the 80's ad 90's, a few more created in the 2000. But there was an anti 90's bias at marvel. In X-men evolution the character Spyke was created because they didn't think Bishop would work as a Teen. despite Sunspot, Synch, Jessie Bedlam being characters in the X-books. The Ultimate X-men took up books for years, I got board after the fist arc because to steal from Team-4-star "I preferred when Ultimate X-men was Gen13 and DV8, I liked throes books better when they were X-force and Generation X. You don't see new characters much because Gen-X writers (The generation not the X-team)spent almost 20 years writing comics as their childhood fan fictions and retconning shit they didn't like. Have you ever heard of the New Warriors? there is a reason for that.
